Argentina is on track to harvest more wheat this season as greater acreage and coming warm weather should offset any yield loss caused by recent frosts that hit in the last days of the Southern Hemisphere winter. Read full article
As I said, I heard these grand predictions last year only to have them revised down month after month until the crops finally were counted.
Seems like CFK thinks there is still U$3.5B worth of grains being hidden away.
I don't think so but I bet she'll send AFIP out looking for them anyway.
“As we progress into spring, it is unlikely that we will get temperatures as low as they were over recent days. It is possible, but not likely,” said Liliana Nunez, chief agro-meteorologist at the government's SMN weather institute.”
Another argie Institute! Hope they are better than INDEC.
But they cannot be worse than the Uruguayan version: they have been on strike for 12 months. Thinking about that for a moment, they are probably very similar.
7. The low amount of Wheat crops had more to do with poor gov't policies than it did the weather.
I don't see this year being any different.
The gov't has transferred so much risk to the farmers that they may not be profitable any longer.
My guess is these estimates are widely exaggerated just like last year.
The EU and USA produce more than enough meth domestically to fry their brains till your hearts content. Junkies will be junkies, as they say. And Americans and Europeans are burnt neurons.
Toby you are so blind to the realities of your country and their glorious leaders.
The USA has known about the Ks drug activity for a very long time.
Argentina, like Mexico, is not a manufacturer of ephedrine. But the country's pharmaceutical sector is a major importer, buying mostly from China and India.
Imports of ephedrine to Argentina recently began to soar -- from 2.9 tons in 2004 to 19.1 tons in 2007, according to government figures.
Police suspect ephedrine, and possibly manufactured methamphetamine, was being smuggled from Argentina to Mexico via at least two methods -- by mules on commercial flights, the diluted drugs sometimes placed in wine bottles carried on board; or disguised as sugar or other products in maritime shipping containers. Once converted to methamphetamine in Mexico, the drug is smuggled into the U.S. by individuals and in cars and trucks, just like other illegal substances.
oh goodie, I guess that means we will see Argentinas inflation return to more liveable levels sometime soon then?? :)
purely based on hope, expectation, weather and a lot of ifs and buts.
does Don't count your chickens until they hatch, mean anything?
good luck Argentina living off Food Aid!
Well, I hope that there will be sufficient bread to keep the people alive.
Other countries suffer droughts etc, and the international community come to their aid - more or less.
But the givers of aid will decide if the starvations are 'acts of God' or are of the nation's own making.
The bottom line is that people starve and die whichever is the reason.
Giving nations that have been antagonized by the Argentinian leadership may have to show 'statesmanship' and munificent altruism in spite of these regular 'slings and arrows'.
The new reports of drought in Argentina are sending wheat prices up in the World ( USA Commodity) markets.
Seems like good news for the USA

Ha, ha, ha.
The Brazil had to buy wheat from outside Mercosur in the last quarter, because the Argentine crop was affected by dry weather.

Argentina 'expected' control of the Falklands by 2000.
Sep 27th, 2013 - 12:16 am - Link - Report abuse 0Now it's by 2033.
And in 2033, there will be another 'expectation.'
I suppose you can't knock optimism from a country who claimed to have sunk HMS Invincible about 5 times in 1982.
Maybe their dreams of wheat will come true?
