Oct 09th, 2013 - 09:30 am - Link - Report abuse 0I keep saying that our trade does not go through Europe and USA now.
It is a mistake. We'll finish by closing our industries and squandering our natural heritage.
And...they will continue subsidizing its primary sector!
So much for Mercosur & S. American solidarity.........it's obvious that Mercosur is irrelavent as a trade organization since it's become a political lobbying group for ideological Bolivarian extremists
Oct 09th, 2013 - 12:17 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Brazil & it's 'few entrepreneurs' like Embraer, Petrobras, Vale, Ambev etc., need a global market to survive & countries like Argentina, Uruguay, & Venezuela with their protectionist policies do not meet their requirements!!!
Burglar alarm, burglar alarm, EU approaching SA.

Oct 09th, 2013 - 05:35 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Common sense would dictate that you shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket.
It is far better to have many customers, spread out throughout the world, than many customers in one or a few countries.
The logic behind this is obvious. If one economy, or a small number of economies, goes into recession, and they stop importing, then Brazil's trade (and therefore economy) wouldn't be affected too much if your trade is spread over a large number of countries.
If, however, your country only does trade with a few countries, and their economies fall, then the impact on Brazil would be huge.
The USA and Europe are HUGE markets. If Brazil has the goods and commodities to trade, and these countries are willing to pay, then how can Brazil possibly lose?
If Brazil doesn't trade with the USA and Europe, then there are plenty of emerging economies out there in Africa, Asia and South America, that would be more than happy to do business.
The only ones that would lose out would be Brazil itself.
Face it, Brazil has come out with a sensible proposal. I'll bet you 2/1 that Argentina and/or Venezuela stops it. Mercosur is poison for your economy.
Maybe one day you'll realise it, hopefully before Argentina and Venezuela drag you down with them.
At some point soon Brazil is going to have to decide between its global economic ambitions, and its Murcosur political ambitions.
Oct 09th, 2013 - 06:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Both are clearly not going to be possible.
With Paraguay still out of the fold, and it would seem, more inclined towards the PA than the old triple alliance + Venezuela, Murcosur could soon be relegated to a loose regional, political grouping.
Trade is good for everyone..
