Argentine President Cristina Fernández is “improving favourably” and “controls were satisfactory” according to Thursday’s daily medical report on the patient who last Tuesday underwent surgery to have a subdural haematoma removed at the Fundacion Favaloro Institute in Buenos Aires.
After the surgery, the President was put under control of the Intensive Care Unit of the medical centre and then transferred to another floor where a “special unit” had been arranged for her.
Presidential spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro also revealed the menu which the head of state is consuming as her condition improves: mashed marrow, cooked apples and steamed vegetables.
“In the second post-surgery day the President’s condition evolves favourably with out complications, interned in intensive therapy. All her vital parameters are in the normal range”, according to the release read by Scoccimarro.
It was also revealed that on Thursday morning the president underwent an axial computerized control tomography of her brain with satisfactory results, and she “continues under strict medical control of the Institute professionals”.
The release was signed by the Fundacion Favaloro Neuroscience Institute Director, Facundo Manes and by the Medical Director of the institution, Gerardo Bozovich.
Fresh news is that apparently Venezuelan ambassador in Argentina, Carlos Martínez Mendoza will be visiting the Institute to leave among the many encouragement messages two symbols of that country’s syncretism: the Gauchito Gil and a Virgin Mary plus a replica of the Venezuelan doctor Jose Gregorio Hernandez who is attributed to have performed several miracles
According to Argentine media Cristina Fernandez is currently in the sixth floor of the Favaloro Institute, where two rooms have been specially equipped for intensive therapy and convalescence. A ‘presidential suite’ has been arranged in the ninth floor where her family follows the recovery evolution and Cristina Fernandez will be occupying once she abandons intensive therapy.
The big question now is how long before the Argentine president can return to her full time activities and agenda. Au propos Cabinet Chief Juan Manuel Abal Medina affirmed that Cristina Fernández continues to be the leader in charge of “decision making” with Vice-president and acting president Amado Boudou “executing” the calls.
“How long the recovery will depend on the medical team; here there are no political issues. Cristina Fernandez is not on holiday, but reincorporation to her duties is defined by her doctors”, underlined Abal Medina. The first medical report which mentioned the recovery period for a patient exposed to such surgery mentioned anywhere from 30 to 45 days.
