MV Ushuaia, a cruise ship operated by Argentina's Antarpply Expeditions based in the city of Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Antártida e Islas del Atlántico Sur (Argentina), starts the cruise season in Malvinas.

Good job Argentina helping the economy of the population in our Malvinas Islands.

You forgot to mention that she conveniently sails under the flag of The Comoros.

Don't see the Malvinas Islands listed anywhere on the itinerary provided by the booking agents:

Antarctica, South America, Falkland Islands, South Georgia, Chile, Argentina, Patagonia, Santiago, Punta Arenas, Ushuaia

    or am I missing something?

@1: “starts the cruise season in Malvinas.” and “our Malvinas Islands”
That may be so, mr Falkland Islands, but curiously they courteously fly the red ensign, as required, when they enter port here, and not that silly blue and white rag from across the water!

Any scrap merchants aboard bound for South Georgia?
Will the Ushuaia be allowed to return to its home port under the Gaucho Rivero law after visiting the Falkland Islands? Just curious

@4 Yes it will. The “Gaucho Rivero” bill bans the access of British flagged (red ensign) or convenience flagged vessels. Only British and British colonies flagged vessels are not welcome in Ushuaia. Comoros is not a British colony.

It is a convenience flagged vessel. Comoros is one of 34 listed 'convenience flags'.

So the ship flies the convenience flag of the Islamic Republic of Comoros. Why not the Argentine flag? Maybe if they did that the ship might be impounded like the Libertad?

I remember the MV Ushuaia - it had to be rescued by the Chilean Navy a couple of years ago:

@10 Didnt the MV Explorer also sink and the passengers have to be rescued? Is that the same company? If so, not a very good safety record

Why would anyone wish to go to Ushuiai ?
I thought the idea of a cruise was to visit pleasant and interesting places.
Ushuiai fails this test on both counts !

Oh sorry, they don't know anything about the oil industry, they no longer have one!

I was on a cruise in Feb/March of this year, around South America on one of those “Floating Cities” of 3000. Our ship stopped at Stanley, Ushuaia and Punta Arenas as well as other places .... - no problems apart from a handful of illiterate thugs burning tyres in Ushuaia at the dock gates - they left within 30 minutes of the fire brigade and police turning up. I am sorry to say Ushuaia is definitely a DUMP ... an awful place .... badly maintained roads ... dilapidated buildings .... unhappy looking people ... unregulated burning of waste ... whereas Punta Arenas was simply oozing with class .... a delightful place. Oooooooozzzzing with class!

12 No the little old mv Explorer was a diiferent company. reports suggest she fell foul of old internal plumbing system - holed by a sharp rock in some ice- very unusual in itself- and then water flowed from one part to another throught the ship via the toilet plumbing system as old ships did not have one way valves in all the plumbing- cabin filled up and pushed down the loo and up into next and so on - they were puzzled totally as they shut all watertight doors early. At least that appears the likley theory - all ships signalled to update systems afterwards.
Anyway all saved and no injuries and the little old lady is where she belongs - at the bottom of the Antarctic Ocean where she pioneered today,s cruising industry - rip.
Ushuaia,s chief attraction is deep water in front of the town so even the 3000+ passenger vessels can berth 20mtrs from the high street
and town centre. And the picturesque Beagle Channel.

WhenI cycled down to Ushuaia I arrived in the most depressing place with miserable people. I had cruised to the Falklands, South Georgia and the Antarctic peninsular from there once before. We were taken to the nearby national park much of which seemed to have been ravaged by beavers. I am going to Punta Arenas in February. Glad to miss Ushuaia where us Brits are obviously not welcome. Its no loss. Bye bye RGland hello Chile!

The Stupid Rgs brought the Beaver to TDF to start a fur industry, but it never gets cold enough there for the beavers to grow a think pelt! They have no natural predators so they are overrunning the Province and making their way into Chile!
    Stupid stupid Rgs
Chile should take back the land and manage it correctly.

Off thread I know but connected to passenger safety in Argentina
Another train crash at Once station today and over 50 people injured
First my heart felt sympathy with the victims
Its not my country I know but one cannot but feel anger at the incompetence of the railway in playing with passengers lives
This would seem to be to be a carbon copy of the accident 18 months ago that killed 51 people at the same station under similar circumstances
It may be that the train company was operating defective equipment but it is the job of the watchdog , the Direccion Nacional de Transporte Ferroviaria to ensure that they do not do so
One would have thought that that government agency would have been particularly watchful of TBA after previous accidents of which the previous Once crash was the worst among many.
No I am not Argie bashing but such wilful negligence of passenger safety makes me angry

Scotty, I didnt actually see beavers, but I saw the massive damage they have done to the woodland. I was told they had been introduced and that it had been a disaster. I think they are trying to eradicate them.

I do hope this doesnt happen in Scotland.

.....although not many Beavers ...they were extinct for 400 years and reintroduced in 2008.

    Ushuaia,
    * the capital of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica & South Atlantic Islands Province (Malvinas Included).
    * the southermost city in the world
    * the most beautiful city in the world.

I´ve lived there for almost three year , it is a paradise.

    Juanito,
    For your impoverished education:

    1) Half of Tierra del Fuego is Chilean, therefore Ushuaia is not the capital of Tierra del Fuego.
    2) Malvinas only exist in Argie imagination.
    3) Antarctica is not Argentine territory.
    4) From Ushuaia, look south and you will see Puerto Williams...yes that is correct, further south than Ushuaia.
    5) Never leave Ushuaia, your ignorance of what constitutes a “beautiful city” will keep you happy.

    Condorcito:

    1) the other half of TDF (chilean) dont exist for tourist, Porvenir?? jajaja .. it is a draw!
    2) Malvinas exist for UN too, Falkland/Malvinas oficial name... Falkland fantasy name of original Malvinas.
    3) Antarctica is an ARgentinian Territory, first Seatlment was in 1904. Chile & UK later.
    4) Puerto Williams? the little village? without Ushuaia doesnt exist.
    5) I´ve visit a lot of town arround the world. the most beautiful city is ushuaia! the worst and dirty city Punta Arenas... pathetic.

from Chile , the only beauty town is Puerto Natales... the big cities from CHile are very dirty , well maybe for the people living there.

    Juanito,

    1) ”the other half of TDF (chilean) dont exist for tourist”
That depends on the class of tourist. The Darwin Cordillera and the most beautiful scenery is on our side.

    2) Go to the Falklands and ask the people there - I know it hurts that you tried to take it ... and failed.

    3) The Orcada base is 600km from Antarctica and it was built by the British in 1903 - educate yourself please.

    4) So bitter because it is not yours. You wanted it so much but in 1978 you tried .... and failed, poor little second class imperialists.

    5) Many cities in Chile are dirty, I often say that on here. I am not deluded like you. Objectively Ushuaia is neither beautiful or clean.

0.5 out of 5 . Go back to your brush factory.

@39. Malvinas isn't even the original of Malvinas, its a Spanish adaptation of Malouines. The Falklands were called the Falkland Islands long before they were ever called Islas Malivinas.

I love Islas Malvinas's remark “Good job Argentina helping the economy of the population in our Malvinas Islands”

    - given that the Falkland Islands' GDP per capita is close to four times that of Argentina, I feel sure the islanders counted their fingers after shaking hands with the Argentines.

“Good job Argentina helping the economy of the population in our Malvinas Islands.”

The population of the Falkland Islands are not as stupid as the Argentine government, as they welcome Argentine help for their economy, and therefore help their self determination.

Argentina are too stupid to realise that if they let in Falkland Island ships to Argentine ports, the economy of those ports would benefit.

Also unlike Argentina's government, the FIG are not racist.
