Pacific Alliance economy ministers are rated among the best four in Latin-American, while those from Mercosur can't boast such merit, much to the contrary, according to the 2012 survey from the America Economica Intelligence report, which ranks the region's ministers in that field. The worst ranked and bottom of the list are Argentina and Venezuela. The two economies are considered:
    unstable,
    unattractive for foreign investment,
highly protective of their domestic markets,
    highly dependent on single commodities
and have the highest inflation rates of the region with 26% and 50% respectively.
Budget management is out of control and transparency is too thin to appreciate it.

    Note edited for clarity.

So come on Trolls, put some positive spin on this.
The Economic policies of successive Argentina and Venezuela governments are destroying these countries.

Things now will get better...at least in Venzuela. The bus drive is ordering his ministers to join militia's:

    lolololololololol

How close is his end? I think that yellow light flashing in the corner of his head is signaling......“times up”. Soon the military will be knocking on his door.

In Hernan Lorenzino defense I must admit that he is a lawyer....so I'm not surprise that he is considered the worse Minister of the Region.

THE UNTOLD ASPECTS OF THAT SO CALLED PACIFIC ALLIANCE.
Firstly, i want to say that i respect the sovereign decisions taken by the different countries, but i have many reasons to reject the integration of argentina to that so called pacific alliance.
If financial world would praise argentinas policies, i would be very worried about it, because it means that we are doing something wrong. For a country like argentina, which government has a reindustrialization project, with not so much dependence from financial markets, the integration of our country to that kind of alliance, would go hightly in detriment of our project. In fact, méxico and colombia are suffering now the consecuences of that alliance, where cruel repressions are sistematicly omited by hegemonical press. People who protest against the consecuences of the free trade agreements, due to it's decimating their local productions. Unfortunately, we have a too dramatic experience in argentina during the decade of the 90's, when the country was aligned to that kind of policies which destroyed our industrial productions.
So, i'm happy to know that argentia is so far away from that so called paciffic alliance, mostly, because we already suffered the terribe consecuences of free trade agreements in the past.

We will invest in Venezuela, opening industries staple products. We will solve the problem of Venezuela.

Generate employment outside the public sector, to develop products that suit your mood, desire, and geography.

We will create the conditions for the Venezuelan people walking on their own feet, appreciating the work, the honor and the pursuit of happiness.

We are betting all our chips in Venezuela democratic and enterprising.

With respect to PA, I hope it does not happen what happened with Mexico. Where who make money are the North-American companies, and the people are enslaved.

Interesting fact, glad to see Urguay did very well too, I like their no nonsense aproach to most aspects in life. :-)

    9) well, the principal protets here in my country so far have been more about possible consequences for the reforms, not about trade agreetments particulary. I respect if Argentina want´s to try a different approach than that of the Pacific Alliance IT is just an economic bloc of recent origin in Latam after all, countries around it can ignore or pay attention to it if they want to. But I also don´t accept yout supposition that what happened to Argentina or what Argentina did some years ago is exactly the same thing the PA is trying to do, to me, thinking that way seems a simplification of the actual context in Latam and a lack of understanding of the PA initiatives.

    11)
“With respect to PA, I hope it does not happen what happened with Mexico. Where who make money are the North-American companies, and the people are enslaved”

I am sorry you feel that way about my country, and I could not be more in disagreetment with you, especially because it would do both Brazil and Mexico well to have more ties between each other and it would be good for the region too, both central and south america, I hate how lately some news and articles have been trying to paint a bad relationship between both countries when there isn´t reason at all for that, nor historical, cultural or economic.

    @ 16 Stevie
Why do you say that an alliance that is achieving significant integration is “dividing” us?

The PA has freed up the movement of people and goods between the member countries. Is this not good for everyone?

How can you equate the ease with which a Colombian business can now set up in Chile, or visa versa to “divide and conquer” and by whom?

21 Condorito: I agree, I didn´t think Stevie was talking about PA when he say that, but your point is very valid. It´s obvious some ppl at Alba and Mercosur don´t like PA, aparently because of their political inclinations. It isn´t fair especially when PA members have yet to do anything or even say something agaist them. I also think this actitude intrinsecaly stops whatever chance we could have for a more integrated Latam, because, how can we talk about being free and cooperation in latam when that isnt allowed if it happens that not everybody thinks the same way? or even have the same need, context or situation? unity will never come from thinking and talking the same and condemning the ones who doesn´t, but by respect of the other and agreetment between each other, as it happens between individuals, it happens too between nations.

Lorenzino doesn’t have any real power. Argentine Economy ministers traditionally have being very independent from the Presidents control, even Nestor Kirchner carried on with Lavagna who had being appointed by Duhalde for a couple of years. The economical policy making nowdays is somewhere between him, Del Pont, Moreno, Kicillof and Etchegaray, andI will say Lorenzino is the least influential. The absolut desicions are taken by her

  • The Chilean perspective

Peru's economy and finance minister Luis Miguel Castilla Rubio has done a tremendous job and I for one am very happy to see him leading the list of most competent economy ministers in front of our very own Felipe Larrain. Just to think that not so long ago we nearly lost Peru to communism. How times have changed, they are now on a trajectory to become a free market powerhouse. They have at hand everything they need, untold natural resources, a large population, many FTA's and more. They are no doubt the model student, even their left wing president Ollanta Humala has fallen into line, I really can't express into words how proud of them I am.

    @26 The Chilean perspective

Agree about Humala. He did seem to be cut from the 'Boliviarian' cloth but turned out to be a great pragmatist. After looking South to Argentina and North to Venezuela he then looked South to Chile and North to Colombia and chose the right path for his people. Democratic freedom, economic independence and wealth generation.
