British Labor MP Jim Dobbin has filed an early day motion calling on the House of Commons to condemn the actions of the Spanish Guardia Civil crew that led to “an armed stand-off” with Royal Navy vessels in Gibraltar waters last week. Read full article

Nov 09th, 2013 - 06:08 am - Link - Report abuse 0It's like singing to an empty auditorium. Sounds great but there's no reaction.
Silent act is usually the most useful. Spain has managed to block the of rocks of construction import to Gibraltar and stopped (by administrative deficiencies) the ship that carried them out. You may not read about that anywhere.

Nov 09th, 2013 - 10:02 am - Link - Report abuse 0Is this where you tell us of your amazing plan to invade the Falklands Islands, sacrificing 10,000 Argentines?
No doubt you have a similar plan for the Spanish to invade Gibraltar, sacrificing a similar number of people. Not yourself of course.

Nov 09th, 2013 - 10:07 am - Link - Report abuse 0I noticed he called himself Argenlatina in his post, he seriously thinks that another South American country is going to put their soldiers and resources on the line to support their colonial aspirations. It's very sad.
@10 Britworker
Nov 09th, 2013 - 11:03 am - Link - Report abuse 0Dany is one of those deluded Argentines who truly believe that the rest of South America is just waiting to welcome Argentine dictatorship with open arms. He believes that eventually, South America will one day become the United States of Argentina, or more likely the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic of Argentina.
Of course, this is a pipe dream. Just like his plan to invade the Falklands was.
You see, Britworker, Dany once won a game of Risk, and since then he has convinced himself that he is a strategic and military genius.
When I asked him how he was going to get his 10,000 sacrificial lambs to the Falklands (as we know the Argentine navy is very busy sinking in port), and how he would keep them supplied (through submarine infested waters), he ran away and wouldn't answer. Maybe the dice didn't roll the right way for him.
His rants are quite amusing though.
It seems to me that the 'restraint' shown by British/Gibraltar authorities is increasingly making the problem worse not better.
Nov 09th, 2013 - 12:17 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@DanyBerger, Are you taking the piss or just so badly educated and brainwashed.
Nov 09th, 2013 - 12:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@1 Actually, it is being noticed elsewhere. Spain is being criticised in a number of forums. It is on the hook with the Council of Europe for example. The European Commission has blown Spain's contention that Gibraltar has some sort of dodgy financial structure right out of the water. So this is coming to the attention of all 27 of the other members of the EU and all 46 of the other members of the Council of Europe.
Nov 09th, 2013 - 12:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@2 Yep, read it. We shall know soon how the ship gets on. Spain reduced to desperate measures. Has it threatened Portugal over the Savage Islands? Will the next shipment of rocks come from North Africa?
@3 And which part of la-la land are you living in and sponging off?
@6 The only thing argieland can crash, you moronic imbecile, is itself. And it's doing quite well at that. You are lucky that Brits believe in being kind to dumb animals. Take a look. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine_Air_Force#Aircraft_inventory
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine_Air_Force#Aircraft_inventory
That's all you've got. Want to compare that to the RAF's 219 combat aircraft (Tornados and Typhoons) and 40 warships (all floating)?
@10 You may find that he is, in fact, a she.

Nov 09th, 2013 - 12:54 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Agreed! The restraint shown by the British governments in Gibraltar and London has made it increasingly uncomfortable for Madrid.
Their incompetent and juvenile actions have backfired quite spectacularly and seemingly keep getting worse.

@19 A couple of small points you've missed, plonkess. Argieland isn't a civilised country. Neither is Spain. Both still into fascist bullying. However, the British government is being urged, by the British people, to sink or shoot down anything Spanish that encroaches. Will argieland take the hint? Or will Britain have to start destroying the last few argie instruments of oppression? Ships, aircraft, Buenos Aires, CFK, Timboy? Just so you know, I regularly contact my MP with a request for Spanish and argie vessels to be blown out of the water. I'm careful about Spain. I make sure that he understands that I mean anything Spanish. State vessels? Fine. Fishing vessels? Fine. Straying cargo vessels? Fine. Pleasure craft? Fine. Private craft? Fine. Surfboards? Fine. Swimmers? Fine. Not a problem with argieland. Argies don't dare get out where the waves are big. But then, where argies venture out, do they come back? Aren't mines wonderful? Submarine surfaces under argie vessel. Certain submarines have reinforced sails to punch through polar ice. And the hulls of argie trespassers? Time to remember our heritage. Kill the aggressors. Let them disappear!

Nov 09th, 2013 - 09:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Spain blockading Gibraltar? All I saw was Spain backing down from the confrontation with the UK when the UK threatened it and also it deciding against working with Argentina after the UK threatened action if it did.
It hardly takes a genius to realise Spain runs away when the UK comes out to play. Its no different than when a Royal Navy warship patrols Gibraltar waters and the Spain Guardia and friends go home and won't come out to play!

That doesn't make sense, chey, if the British were cowards they wouldn't want a fight with Argentina?
If, the British are cowards, why did Spain back down from agreeing to buddy up with Argentina?
ArgenLatina wants, can crash you any time soon
We'll pass up that offer. It's your airforce that crashes its own aircraft (no help from UK-not necessary), and your navy where the ships tend to sink very easily (no help from the UK, not necessary-you manage to sink your OWN ships-lol)).
and if that was the case that you can crash us soon, why are you waiting to have a go at us?
Feeling sorry in advance for the Typhoon pilots?
Or the Rapier operators?
Or the Submarine crews?
Or the ship crews?
Or are you worried that your forces have not correctly issued all of your standard ration packs with white flags for the inevitable moment you have to surrender when you discover the devious British have sent down a single Ghurka to greet your invasion ship??
Or are you worried that if you invade ,once you have made more 'Pampers' aircraft, the UK forces on the Falklands will laugh themselves to death?
You needn't be worried, chey.

I'm sorry, but I still find the idea of a Guardia Civil patrol boat (probably weighs less than 20 tonnes) and a Wave class tanker (weighs about 31 kilotonnes unladen) having an arguement to be a bit of a one sided contest.
Nov 11th, 2013 - 10:58 am - Link - Report abuse 0My deep philosophical question: If Wave class tanker were to collide with a GC patrol boat, would the Wave crew actually notice? Presumably they have someone on the foredeck watching for debris (or soon to be debris) in front of it, in order for them to know when they need to repaint the bows.

Nov 11th, 2013 - 05:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Dany is funny. Argentine armed forces were at their zenith in the 70s and 80s. They possibly had the hardware to hold the FI, but not the competence. Today, without a navy or airforce it is hard to see how they could take the islands in the first place.
After crashing the Argies in '82 the Brits were generous enough not to pursue reprisals. The sinking of the entire Argie fleet would have been acceptable and commensurate. It would also have been a good reminder for those Argies with short memories.
Nah, much more satisfying watching them rot and become more ineffective week by week. So much so, that their Flag ship now has sails!

Not entirely correct. Argentina would cause few problems.
Afghanistan is a civil war. The best that can be done is to keep it in check until the new Afghanistan forces can take charge of their own country.
Also, the reason for the invasion was to destroy the Talibans and
Al qaeda's ability to launch attacks on the west from Afghanistan.
This has been a success. No attacks have been launched from there since the invasion.
Has it also escaped your notice that the UK is only a part of the ISAF forces which, by the way, includes Germany. How successful have they been ?
