    The real truth about Venezuela.

” I’m not looking for home appliances,” said Celide Romero, a 79-year-old protestor. “I’ve been looking for milk for the last month and a half, but there isn’t any.”

    How very sad.

Yes, it is sad. It is also insane. If a ' Bolivarian Socialist paradise' cannot provide even the most basic food staples to it's most vulnerable citizens what use is it? You can't eat a T.V.

  • The Chilean perspective

Venezuela at the moment is the Chile of late 1971, which at the time was systematically being destroyed by Salvador Allende. They could save themselves considerable pain by picking up a history book.

    Unless it's a TV dinner!

Well it'a a disgrace. The country has oil and wealth but a bunch of muppets could do a far better of running the country that the current cohort of single-celled lifeforms in power.

I dismissed the thought that Chavez, in “suggesting” this idiot was doing his best to screw the country from his deathbed.

However, the way things are going downhill like a bus without brakes, it seems I may have been correct in the first place.

Don’ you love it though? Perhaps the 600,000 dead people who were allowed the vote will kick Chavez in the nuts. Pity there is not an afterlife.

Why is so difficult for Maduro to understand the concept of democracy?

Why does he label protesters as opposition? Why does he not understand that it is not only the right of citizens in a democracy to protest (as long as it's peaceful) but their duty?

I wonder how much longer he'll last?

As someone mentioned above: you can't eat electrical goods, people need food to survive. Someone should explain to Maduro that civilisation is only 3 meals away from anarchy, and if he carries on this way, his days are numbered.

'Maduro said a new foreign currency exchange mechanism would be unveiled tomorrow, but gave no other details.'

“.... we were going to use beans but we couldn't find any.
So the NEW CURRENCY EXCHANGE will use Venezuelan PEBBLES.
    Hurrah for Venezuela!”

I love when Socialism goes down spectacularly. It makes me happy.
Only very very stupid people think that it can ever work.
We have enough people on this board a hopin and a wishin but they all end the same way. Rich leaders poor people.

Argentina this is your future except you don't even have the oil to export

so it will probably be even worse

I had a meeting with some Rg folks yesterday and they were saying it is extremely dangerous in BA now not at all like when I was living there. They said I wouldn't recognize BA and it's only been 2 yrs since I was there last. They're desperately trying to get a job in the USA but it won't happen so they're going to make investments here and get as much U$ out of the country as possible.
They are expecting hyperinflation at any time
Nice couple ruined by a stupid and corrupt gov't
    It is sad.

Can't they barter some of their toilet paper surplus for milk?

When a government mandates to business owners to slash sell prices, practically (i) is margining the onwers their profits and also reducing tax revenues to the Government and other tax entities , (ii) clearly shows the elemental absence of how micro-economics works, (iii) puts openly to the public the lack of currency control and management inefficiencies and leadership within the government.

Venezuela needs an urgent change. The country has lost control all over its economy and business motion and great part to the solution of the country is to dollarize its economy and make new working policies, otherwise this country will be wipe-out of the world map, that is in terms of economics. Do you remember how was Ecuador in 1999?

I don't understand this. Didn't Venezuela recently have an election? Then NICKolARSE MADuro must have been the person “the people” wanted. Why are they protesting? Looks like that old aphorism is true. People get the government they deserve. Seems like Venezuelans deserve shit. Who's from Venezuela? Any comments from the land of the “little birdie”?

    They do already!

What do you think the Venezuelan currency is good for these days?

The news keeps getting worse. Venezuela borrowed $40Billion from China a few years ago, but servicing that debt requires they deliver 300 000 barrels per day and they are struggling.

Plus the oil price has been dropping. Plus Canada may soon open a major pipeline. Already one major importer of Venezuela oil has curtailed their imports for this reason. The U.S. isn't going to buy 'Bolivarian oil' when they can acquire it from Canada.

Venezuelan importers are frantically diverting their shipments elsewhere - I mean you would, wouldn't you? I find all of this bizarre. Nightmarish. And this incompetent buffoon with his stupid Saddam/Stalin mo is in charge?

Don't worry Venezuela will survive as the economy will grow despite high inflation.Plus there's free university education, free health care and other welfare policies. The only thing that will EXPLODE is the failed Western capitalist policies of 50 million Americans who live on food stamps and a second class British economy.SOON CHINA WILL BE THE WORLD'S LARGEST ECONOMY.SEE YOU GUSY IN CHINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    @16

I salute your loyalty, but not your commonsense. HOW is the economy going to grow? At least the Americans can actually purchase food with their food stamps. T.V.'s, to the best of my knowledge, are not edible. Nor, for that matter, can you watch the damn thing if your enduring a blackout.

Milk comes from DAIRIES. Not electrical appliances.

    @ 16 Socialismo

STEVIE, how are you lad? Haven’t seen one of your commie rants for a while.

I wasn’t aware that the UK had 50 million Americans living on food stamps; they should be in the US, not the UK.

If you want to see a third world economy just look at Venezuela, I bet they aren’t all Chavez now; perhaps it’s a good job he’s rotting and bits are falling off him as we write. If he were alive there would be a civil war by now, just as there will be very soon.

Don’t hold your breath with the Chin economy because the peasants want some of the cake that the commie bastards in charge are keeping to themselves. It only takes one rifle shot and they will all be at each others’ throats. Then you will see a real “revolution” unlike the one the Tupas got mired down in.

    Well Socialismo

We also have “free university education, free health care and other welfare policies” if you qualify, however we somehow manage to do it with 2.2% inflation and even less government debt than Venezuela.

As for China being the world's largest economy! SO WHAT?

Doesn't seem to affect Venezuela when the US is the world's largest economy. Supposedly Venezuela isn't affected by this fact. Why should others be affected by the fact that China might (and believe me that is a very big assumption) become the world's largest economy.

China already has suffered a drop in working age population starting 2 years ago. With its actual population starting to decline within an estimated 10 years, we'll see how well China manages this. Hopefully for the Chinese they do it better than Japan has. Yeah that is probably something you don't know, that Japan was on track to overtake the US economy back in the 1990s.

Anyway good luck with that socialism gig in Venezuela. It seems to be working out soooooo well.
