My thoughts are that Spain ought to publish the Nationalaties of the smugglers who smuggle tobacco into Spain. Methinks would be very interesting reading.

They could already be detailed online. Well in the uk, such information is in the public domain, which is where it should be.

There will be no major change to the status of Gibraltar for the foreseeable future.

I'd say that the year 2023 will look very similar to 2013.

Well Spain might be smaller and minus Catalunya!

To decide the point re Gibraltar it has been agreed that the two Ministers will have a boxing match of 10 rounds, one minute per round as Gollum lite runs out of breath after that.

To make things a little more “level” the British Minister will have his hands tied behind his back and he will be blindfolded.

STOP PRESS! Gollum Lite has withdraw from the match quoting the unfair advantage that the British Minister has over him. He said it was grossly unfair to expect a Spaniard to fight somebody even if he is blindfolded and has his hands tied behind his back because everybody knows what a bunch of cowards we are. I mean, just ask the army of The Dark Country.

@6 I'm not sure what your comment is supposed to convey. But Spain has stepped over a line. For a couple of Spanish thugs to open a diplomatic bag is very serious. Just interfering with an official British diplomatic courier is bad enough. There will be repercussions. At an appropriate time.

    Hi
As you probably gathered it was a light hearted look at what some perceive as diplomatic appeasement by the government,

Of course we both now there is more at stake, and what goes on behind the scene is anybodies guess,

But I agree with you, that sooner or later the actions of Spain
    Will have far reaching consequences,

I too, feel the royal navy should be their in force, to take what ever action is deemed necessary,

Spain deserves what ever it gets,
But from my point of view,
It’s not what Mr Simmons says, it’s the impression it gives to our enemies that we are weak,
Despite the fact we could turn Spain into dust mites.

    Just my opinion. Thanks..

Oooh Aussie sunshine the truth hurts so much that you flail for a comeback.

I only said Catalunya might go, not that it will. It is borderline at the moment. But I guarantee that Spain won't have sovereignty over Gibraltar in 2023.

Totally impossible especially considering Spain keeps periodically squandering any small gains with idiocy such as the present actions.

A diplomatic bag is a container which is used to communicate between two diplomatic missions. A DIPLOMATIC MISSION is known as an EMBASSY.Great Britain does not have an EMBASSY in Gibraltat therefore it HAS NO DIPLOMATIC BAGS. Secondly ALL diplomatic bags must be locked and must have a tampered seal attached and THIRDLY the messenger MUST have all official paper work when transfering this bag which in this case they did not have.

Spain has had a lot of DIPLOMATIC EXPERIENCE.It is over a thousand years old something MR PICARDO forgot when he tried to pull this one on Spain once again. The sad part is that Great Britain HAS fallen for it, once again.

Well told. A typical trick of the FCO. And too many media in Britain have swallowed the bait.

    @ 15 aussie motormouth

Irrespective of your need to write in capital letters because you betray your uneducated argie / Spanish education you have not said that I am wrong about the 1492 date.

The reason is because I am correct and you either:

    1) did not know the date, OR;

    2) you cannot carry out simple arithmetic, OR;

    3) there is of course another explanation: you could be just shouting your mouth off and think that by lying / exaggerating things it means that it is so. All it means to people on here is that you are a lying, argie / Spanish dickhead who would not know the truth if it kicked you in your nuts (assuming you have any of course).

Which is it? As if anybody is bothered.

Oh poor Aussie Sunshine. Does your new friend Olisipo know that you claim to be Australian and living in Australia?

Anyway even a quick look at Wikipedia showed that you just blatantly lied!

“a diplomatic bag is a container which is used to communicate between two diplomatic missions”

    Actually:
It is a container used for carrying official correspondence or other items between a diplomatic mission and its home government or other diplomatic, consular, or otherwise official entities.

“Secondly ALL diplomatic bags must be locked and must have a tampered seal attached”

    Actually:
It usually has some form of lock and/or tamper-evident seal attached to it in order to deter interference by unauthorised third parties. The most important point is that as long as it is externally marked to show its status, the “bag” has diplomatic immunity from search or seizure,

“THIRDLY the messenger MUST have all official paper work when transferring this bag which in this case they did not have”

    Actually:
It is often escorted by a diplomatic courier, who is similarly immune from arrest and detention. The official paperwork involves identification papers identifying him and the number of diplomatic bags.

“Spain has had a lot of DIPLOMATIC EXPERIENCE.It is over a thousand years old”

And yet it still can't win over Gibraltar. Funny that.

We'll see what is said after the kerfuffle has died down.

Oh wake up you lot!! You sound so pathetic that you can´t see when Cameron´s government is pulling a shifty!!

why would they send this so called diplomatic bag through the border when they have the airport to send it!!

Shifty work for a government that is losing it in all fronts....
They thought that the EU was going to crack down hard on Spain but that did not happen...so they come up with this shitty plan...wankers.

Changing your tune now I see!

The UK can send its diplomatic mail however it wishes. If Cameron was pulling a shifty, then Spain fell for it hook, line and sinker!

    Hahahaha FAIL!
