Brazil will have its own national-made secure communications satellite by 2016

Brazil's state-owned telecom provider Telebras signed a 560m dollar contract to deliver a satellite for secure communications on Thursday, following months of outrage over revelations of US cyber spying. A statement said a joint venture between Telebras and Embraer would deliver the geostationary satellite for strategic communications by late 2016. Read full article

Quite a funny story, I think. Wonder how many satellites currently provide services to Brazil? Could have made it quite difficult as comms switched from one satellite to another on a random basis. But now there'll be just ONE satellite in a geostationery orbit. Pretty easy to spot! And then? You intercept transmissions to and from the satellite. Crack the encryption and away you go. And Thales has got systems the NSA etc can't crack? How long do we think the USA has been in the business of hacking into satellite communications? And the NSA is understood to own the largest single group of supercomputers in the world! And Brazil is going to come up with something to beat that capability in a couple of years? But how will they know if they've been successful? Still, if it makes them feel better.

3 years for brazil to build this, 15 minutes for USA to intercept and decipher the transmissions

All nations have spied on each other probably since Adam was a lad.
The prime maxim in that game is
“Thou shallt not gt found out”
All countries indulge in measures to protect their secrets and indulge in counter espionage to discover those of other nations
So the fact that Brazil is taking measures to protect their communications is nothing new and I say good luck to them

Obviously Dilma still has her knickers in a twist, just what is she frightened of people learning?

    1) it can’t be that she was the “Leader” of a murderous cell during the Military rule: we ALL know that;

    2) that Mantega is a liar and a grafter: we all know that;

    3) that the WC may be stopped and played elsewhere due to the violence, the useless corrupt police, the fact they cannot land enough planes to fill the stadiums that are not going to open: we all suspect that;

    4) the supposed “fact” that Dilma fancies TMBOA and they want to “coo” in private? I wonder?

Whatever it is NSA OR for Brazil, NASA, will be through the firewall like an RPG. I wonder if Brazil will ever admit they have been breached, of course not: IT’S A SECRET! Ooops!

    Bunch of twats or what?

    to be fair to brazil,
    one would honestly say,
that unless brazil uses this technology or spies or other kind of spying on others,

how then will it know what others are doing, and if or when an enemy may or may not attack..

What anglosphere terrorist attack ?..I cannot imagine any country in the “Anglosphere” wishing to attack Brazil. As far as I can see you are no threat to us and neither are we to you. You have been influenced too much by the “Argie” posters who are paranoiac about world-wide plots to destroy their country...which again is not true.

@3, 5 You are seriously short of intelligence. Where does Brazil get its “naval” vessels from? No less than 23 vessels come from Britain. But at least we know how to sink them. And how many “Brazilian” vessels are copies? We can sink those as well. Ever thought of the little electronic gizmos that, remotely, cut all electrical power? British vessels are protected. Where did British shipbuilders put the necessary “devices” in vessels supplied to Brazil? Or was it down to the British security services? Here's a tip, Brazil Nut. On it's own, Britain could turn Brazil into NOTHING in a year or less.
But pay attention to Clyde instead of your anarchist/communist/fascist leadership. Try democracy and freedom instead of argie and terrorist propaganda. Rousseff is a commie terrorist. Commies never change. And she believes in oppression/repression. Down south in slugland, fascism is already in force. “Force” being the operative word. But there's more. The juvenile thugs of La Campora and Quebracho WILL terrorise. Brazil is already lawless. Murders and other crimes are commonplace. The most lawless place in the world. What you dipsticks need is law and order. All “brazilians” offer is different degrees of corruption and criminality. When the time comes and the world recognises the problem, brazilians will die with argies. Neither are needed by the world!

Another pointless video. Do you work for Embraer ?
When will this aircraft be flying and in service ?
Note also who is involved in the engine design and management systems. I will give you a clue..two letters G.B.
    The one below is!
    videos.airbus.com/video/6ab47e8d97ds.html
already flight tested and coming into service.
What food does Brazil supply to the UK apart from Mangos and other tropical fruit ?
Xenophobia seems to be alive and kicking in South America.

@11 “Old” age is all in the mind. You'll be senile by the time you're 19! Little land? We have the same amount of land we've always had. We have something of a history of kicking people who try to take any of it in the nuts. France, Germany, Japan, Spain and argieland spring to mind. Xenophobia? But you support a fascist state noted for its corruption, depravity, larceny, mendacity and necrophilia and intent on ethnic cleansing. The word “hypocrite” comes to mind. Should we try to excuse you by adding “brain-washed, moronic, stupid and uneducated”?

As for your aircraft, have you seen these?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-17_Globemaster_III http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-17_Globemaster_III http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-17_Globemaster_III

We've already got all of these in service. Then there's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-17_Globemaster_III

22 of those expected in 2015. You're going to buy 28 of those Embraers. If the money holds out. But yours is only “scheduled” for 2016! Just in “development”. Still behind then!

    Argentina proven right ONCE again.

“We gave you the ships and we know how to sink them”

Which is what I said months ago which is why I am glad Argentina gives not one cent to buying “weapons” (junk) from Europe and North America. Its all another facet of their continued pursuit of subjugation of other nations.

And then, I thought Britain and Britons were “Friends” of Brazil.

Are the above responses how the British treat their friends?

I rest my case, in another subject, again.

Never again will Argentina be friends with the Euros and North Ams. They there call me xenophobe and racist but they are by far the most racist of all. The responses here belie their true nature.

Imagine what they think but cannot WRITE.

Can't wait for the next war in Europe, that will gel the world immensely. What a coincidence that when Europeans are busy killing each other, the rest of the world is far more peaceful...

“Can't wait for the next war in Europe”,
You will have to stand there until the hairs on your arse touch the ground....to paraphrase an RSM's edict to bunch of newly arrived National Service recruits who could not stand to attention on parade.

” I am glad Argentina gives not one cent to buying “weapons” (junk) from Europe.“
Are Spain giving you the Mirage fighters gratis or can't you afford to pay for them ?

”And then, I thought Britain and Britons were “Friends” of Brazil“
    See #9

Even more interesting will be when Brasil gets pissed off with Argentina and takes over your country.

Rewind the clock a couple of years. Who started the ball rolling about the Falklands ? Denigrating and threatening the population.
Accusing the UK of militarising the S.Atlantic, sending nuclear submarines, trying to organise cliques to do their bidding, propagating
half truths and damned lies on the world's stage.
You wonder why we are not best friends ?
”Never again will Argentina be friends with the Euros and North Ams”
Some will and some will not...you speak for yourself on this one, as all posters do.
However, your enmity matters not a bit to anyone but yourself.
You can keep trundling out your bile as it obviously gives you a kick in what must be an otherwise impoverished life. What will you do when you have run out of synonyms from your thesaurus ?

I think it will go down as one of the great ironies of world history, in 100 years... That Argentina, the country that was formerly “european” and wanted only “white race” immigrants, culture, and eschewed the rest of Latin America for decades, circa 2003 transformed itself into the cynosure of ANTI-EUROPEAN philosophy and would LEAD Latin America into a total rejection and antagonism of Europe, succesfully.

It is such a grand irony that no doubt it must be, and will be fulfilled!

    @16

My generation is squrarely anti-European. Us young people know take DNA tests to demand results of Indian ancestry.

As for Brazil invading, not really. They learned their lesson in the Cisplatine war.

You are quoting a war that happened over 190 years ago as relevant to in today's situation ? Hardly comparable. You should watch Brasiliero's videos of Brazilian armed might and tremble !

My generation is squrarely anti-European. Us young people know take DNA tests to demand results of Indian ancestry.

So, you will be performing ethnic cleansing on non-pure blooded Argentinian's of European ancestry . Goodby to your ruling classes.

You cannot “demand” -a favourite Argentinian expression- Indian ancestry. It is either in your genetic code or not. Of course unless you “bribe” the tester - another Argentinian custom- to falsify the results to get the answer you want.
I can see that Dr. Mengele's ideas are alive and well in his chosen country of refuge after fleeing Germany in 1945.

Argentina's “ruling class”? Is that how you prove how deep your knowledge of the country is?

You are laughable like the rest of your compatriots. You just proved you not Sh!t, since you all want me to use modern English.

Argentina does NOT have a “white spanish” 5% elite and masses of enslaved indians and negroes like the other countries.

It has a middle class, a working class, an upper-middle class, an immigrant class, a veteran class, an LGBT class, an atheist class, a Jewish community, a muslim population. All of them at far larger percentages than in the other countries in the Americas except two (both have over 200 million people).

There was never a “white” ruling class here, that dissppeared in the late 19th century.

Wow do you people know NOthing.

From what I have seen, your government seems to be full of people of european descent...look at their names..Kirchner, Timerman, Capitanich,Fabrega, Martinez etc. How many pure blood “Indigenous aboriginal Indians” are in the top of government, industry, medicine, sciences and law ?
“You just proved you not Sh!t, since you all want me to use modern English”. Can you rephrase this in English so that it makes sense ?

“Argentina does NOT have a “white spanish” 5% elite and masses of enslaved indians and negroes like the other countries.”
    What other countries ?

There was never a “white” ruling class here, that dissppeared in the late 19th century.
If you read that AGAIN, you will see that you have contradicted yourself. Rather confused logic, don't you agree ?

Likewise, your breakdown of the class system is rather peculiar.
A veteran can be in his own class system ? So a colonel or major- a veteran- would be classed the same as a private although he could be from a privileged background and be wealthy ?

Wow do you people know NOthing.

I will freely admit that I do not know much about Argentine politics.
Anything I know has been gleaned from MP, Clarin and B.A. Herald and comments in this forum.

Conversely, you know very little of Europe OR the “ANGLOSPHERE”
At least I have travelled a bit of the world, met and talked with people at all levels and gained a bit of experience first hand.
You admit that you have never been outside Argentina so all your information on the outside world is based on other people's opinions gleaned from books, articles and the media.
Young people are always SO certain in their opinions. Give yourself 10 years and then look back. The chances are that your black and white scenarios are actually grey.

I can't blame Brazil from wanting to secure the integrity of it's communications. Whether it's possible to do that from the N.S.A.'s bristling array of supercomputers I have no idea.

My attitude to Edward Snowden's revelations have evolved considerably over the last couple of months. The degree to which my own country has been spying on it's neighbours is shocking to me and is having MAJOR consequences on the our diplomatic relationships.
