Blackouts continued in several neighborhoods of Argentina's metropolitan Buenos Aires area while protests increased including pickets in highways, attempts to set on fire power distributors offices or kidnap power companies' officers while the only resource from government has been to blame companies and threaten to take over utilities. “can't anticipate a significant increase in demand” if consumers 'don't inform us of the electric powered appliances they have incorporated“.”

...Seriously. A power company can't anticipate a power increase on CHRISTMAS? What the hell are these people doing running a power company.

And lol about customers having to inform them about whey they want to increase there power consumption. You should all E-mail them on mass every time you buy anything electric just to piss them off.

“The time has come,” the Walrus said,
    “To talk of many things:
    Of shoes–and ships–and sealing-wax–
    Of cabbages–and kings–
And why the sea is boiling hot–
    And whether pigs have wings.”

p.s. Mr Capitanich, I bought a new hairdryer. I will use it between 8-9 am every other day. Glad I could help fix the blackout problem.
p.p.s. I understand that things will much better when the government takes over the creation and distribution of energy - just like the national airline and international debt management.

Power companies DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY to invest in the infractructure because of ineptitude of the GOVERNMENT. Cannot the GOVERNMENT see that freezing prices does not make money for the Electric Companies. Now they want to FINE the companies so they have less money to invest. You know where this is going to end.

I see they are talking about fining the power companies, and on top of that making them compensate the people who suffered blackouts. Can they not see the problem with that? Let me run it past them:

The government fixes the energy prices so that the power companies cannot make a profit that will enable them to invest in maintaining and upgrading the distribution infrastructure, which has led to the current situation of blackouts.

The government is now taking even more money from them in fines and compensation, so there is even less chance of investment.

Surely the only way out is for the government to nationalise - but that will end up costing the government even more. Can you imagine it making the government ever making a profit post nationalisation?

    It all beggars belief.

Baldrick says “I have a cunning plan, Blackadder ” Why don't we ( Government ) give the running of the Utility Companies to the province of Buenos Aires and thje City of Buenos Aires, that way we can blame them when things go wrong. Do the aforementioned have the money to ivest in the infratructure? Oh well not our fault says the Government, problem swept under the carpet.

#3 You hot the nail right on the head with that post. A business needs profits to re-invest in order to provide more business and they are too stupid to comprehend that. In most countries, businesses also usually get some type of tax credits for investments in equipment of this type of infrastructure. But that's conventional wisdom and we all know how kirchner operates. Cuntlips have been rather quiet since her brain surgery. This is just the start of summer.....maybe she won't make it through the season. They must be paranoid to raid the military HQ believing the Army was operating an intelligence operation.

Double electricity prices overnight and watch consumption drop. It worked here.

Australia has had lower electricity consumption each year for the past three years. Which is pretty amazing when you consider our population grows 400,000 per year. Which is higher than Argentina's.

On a per capita basis it is down to the level of 1997.

Building power stations and building and maintaining a decent reliable grid to distribute power costs lots of money. Like everything else in RGland its all falling apart. RGland needs an intelligent capable government and stability to drag itself up by its bootstraps from the low point. This, like in the UK presently is hard and painful. RGland needs to look at itself critically. It wont get anywhere with the present load of goons and crooks. The Scotch are in grave danger of going down the same dead end socialist path if they go along with the socialist rantings of the pink president. Its a one man road to disaster.

Comparing a natural disaster in the US with a summer heatwave.

Today we will have 38C here in Melbourne. I cooled my house overnight and will close it up soon. By this arvo I will have to run the air con for and hour or two probably. In 15 minute spurts to keep my lounge comfortable. It's too expensive to run it non stop as it should be.

The last thing I will worry about is the power grid collapsing or a blackout.

Call it brotherly love, we'll need them on next dry season...
The blackouts are just too big to blame shortage of electricity production.
I've seen plenty of transformer stations cut off because of overload and it doesn't take a week to get it up going, that's just silly.
And no way a heatwave could be a reason to construct an entire power plant.
    That's even more silly.
No, if electricity production was the problem, we'd see this happening every single time there is an overload on the Argentine grid.
Storms can bring the power grid to its knees for weeks, because of damages to the grid itself. So can other natural disasters, but a heatwave merely causes an overload.

As much as Susie as ron_57 and Stevie would like to deflect, you can't wish away these crippling blackouts.

Generating electricity is a waste of time unless someone is consuming it. So yes Argentina can generate electricity, but that doesn't mean its electricity grid can cope. The fact they import electricity from Uruguay means that Argentina cannot meet the surge in demand during hot weather.

What is worse is that industry has lower demand at this time of year.

If electricity is cheap, there is no incentive for consumers to conserve. No incentive to switch off appliances. No incentive to buy or upgrade to more energy efficient appliances. No incentive to insulate alter lifestyle.

By keeping electricity prices artificially low, the government has denied electricity companies adequate returns on investment. Why invest if your returns are negative. They are businesses not charities.

Free electricity markets do WORK. Australia yet again is proof of this. Our population grows 400,000 per year and electricity consumption is DROPPING. Each person in Australia now uses as much electricity as we did 16 years ago.

It's already 30C here and will reach 38C later. And other than my fridge and modem, all I'm running is a pedestal fan in the lounge and each exhaust fan in the bathrooms. The two air cons will stay off. Why? Because they are too expensive to run.

The Argentine government thinks it is helping people by making electricity so cheap. All they have done is made electricity consumption soar without anyone caring.

Argentina has got the electricity sunset it pays for.

Thankfully I also have the electricity system I pay for. And don't have to worry about days without power during a warm spell.

Well I gotta go and catch an air conditions electric tram into town to go to an air conditioned shopping centre and watch a movie. No fear that the power will cut out.

    Good one Stevie

I see your downward slide is continuing.

You will note that I didn't blame the entire problem on generation. Reread my post carefully this time. And why haven't I experienced days of blackouts when we have a heatwave. The longest blackout in my life is about 5 hours.

And stay on topic. Jeez what a loser. Gay rights and electricity? What next? Iraq? Afghanistan? You stand for nothing Stevie, and it shows. You talk the talk but don't walk the walk. A contrarian of the finest pedigree.

I'm sure glad you live in a safe, prosperous, democratic and free market country in Europe. It means your kids won't have to work like so many children in Argentina. It also means they can get an education that instills in them values and morals and ethics that aren't the same as the warped ones handed to you by your parents and upbringing. Physically they're a long way from Uruguay and mentally they're even further.

Stevie, the champion of Argentina, who prefers to talk about Australia's constitutional issues rather than the subject at hand; tens of thousands of Argentines who couldn't give a rat's fart about ideology when they have no electricity or running water.

The Argentine government regulates the electricity industry in Argentina. If they refuse to provide the oversight to make sure the industry is invested in and upgraded and expanded; then they are to blame. It they want to keep prices artificially low to buy off a restless population so they fail to notice other shortcomings; then they are now reaping their reward.

My all means let the government nationalise the energy system. There's two guarantees. First, they'll have to pay out like they do YFP. Second consumers will pay to upgrade the system. It might be through taxes instead of tariffs but they'll pay either way.

Stevie I don't even have to prove you are a moronic hypocrite because you don't keep your mouth shut. You do the job for me.

You go off topic more than almost anyone but now you wanna stay on topic. Sure you don't wanna talk about Iraq? Or Afghanistan? Perhaps the US debt?

Would you like to revise your post 33 now?

You went off topic FIRST so don't try to pathetically whine about staying on topic now. Marriage equality in Australia has nothing to do with Argentina's current crisis. For that it what it is. A crisis.

As for what to invest in? Well generation is just one factor. There's the HV lines (they run at 220,000 volts here) then there the distribution centres (Melbourne has 8) they step it down to 22,000 volts. Then it's off to suburban streets and transformers that step it down to 415 volt 3 phase. And finally into the house at 240 volts (+-6% in Victoria). Unless all that is running well then you have problems. And remember electricity recirculates back to the source.

Failure to invest in all that can cause major problems. Unauthorised connections throw out the balance. There's a reason that only licences electricians can touch anything electrical here. To keep our system WORKING.

Power generation is worthless unless your network actually works.

But perhaps I don't know what I'm talking about.
Perhaps we should talk about gay marriage.

So you agree Stevie that if all those things are not working properly then you have problems.

And actually I didn't Google a single piece of information. That's how I understand the system works. I am not an electrician and have never claimed to even work in that industry.

Melbourne's HV supply runs at 220kV. Whether that is better or worse than your alternative is beside the point as that is what they are. I didn't claim otherwise.

The supply into my current house is 240V single phase as far as I'm aware-though that can vary. Usually somewhere between 220 and 260. Though the house I built with my father had 3 phase due to the size of the powerboard because of the way the house was wired and the fact my mother used a kiln.

And yes Stevie, the more illegal connection to the grid the more unstable and the greater the voltage drop. Length by cable thickness. A neighbourhood transformer steps the voltage down for a certain area's usage. If you were as well travelled as you say, then you would love the almost chaotic beauty of cables leeching electricity throughout many developing nations - of which Argentina is now one.

For some unknown reason you believe there is no issues with Argentina's electricity system and yet for some unfathomable reason there are 100,000 of Argentines with electrics supply issues right now.

According to you Argentina generates ENOUGH electricity. So why don't people have any? Where is the issue in your seemingly experienced opinion.

You keep harping on about there being no problems and yet clearly there are. Why can't the Argentine electricity grid handle peak loads during a heatwave?

    Ours can.

Back on early 2009 we had a massive heatwave with consecutive days over 43C and our highest ever temperature of almost 47C. And yet OUR system coped. A day without electricity here is considered a MAJOR failure.

But to you, more than a week is not an issue.

Pesky reality is getting in the way of your ideology yet again.

Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s regime has borrowed repeatedly from socialist Venezuela’s playbook of economic misery over the years: first seizing Aerolineas, the nation’s largest airline, and then, in April 2012, snatching YPF, its largest oil company; then, announcing trade restrictions that require importers obtain a permit for every good brought into the country; and ordering supermarkets to freeze prices for months.

Now with electricity failing throughout the country, she is close to reaching her goal of chaos. For the president of a dying country, she certainly has been quiet compared to her almost daily disruption of TV prior to her exploratory brain surgery. Perhaps the powers that be are keeping her in the shadows. There's also rumblings on the street whether she will retain her title as president throughout this summer.

    Anglolatino
HV in the range of 50kV-400kV is for tranportation of electricity.
This is for the reason that lower voltages have too much loss across distances (higher current equals more heat = loss)
This is why you have +-6% in... Virginia, was it?

It has nothing to do with production of electricity nor blackouts.
And your illegal connections have nothing at all to do with voltage drops in the grid, only voltages drops in the connections in question. It could, in the occasion of a massive short circuit, have the same effect on a transformer station as an overload.

Blackouts occur when the power grid goes down. A heatwave means it can do so because of overload. An overload usually results in some fuse burning in some transformers station. This is easy to remedy as soon as the overload in question is dealt with, something that is redundant, as the overload disappears with the fuse.

This should NOT take a week, but a couple of hours at the most.
The problem in Argentina is political, has nothing to do with the capacity of the grid.

It is true that the vast number of people in the slums (CFK supporters) leaching off the national grid causes problems for the power companies. The government has insisted on allowing this stealing of resources as it benefits their voters.

Some of my BsAs friends have been off-line for a couple of days now. I did get some Christmas greetings but since then the situation has deteriorated significantly.

The only issue in that case is that the power companies don't get paid for the electricity produced. It will NEVER cause a blackout, as the electricity is measured and the fuses are dimensioned to cut off in case of overload.

There are two ways for a blackout to continue for many days.
Either there is material damage on the grid, or someone is refusing to change the fuses.

And Poppy, there is no difference on USA, Uruguay or the Malvinas regarding power grids, only the amount of electricity produced, parallel transformers for heavy loads and equipment for personal security. The distribution is the same, regardless if your voltage is 110, 230, 400 or 690...

The actions taken by the Argentine Government to reduce imports may affect our ability to purchase significant capital goods.

The Argentine Government has recently adopted some initiatives designed to limit the import of goods in order to prevent further deterioration of the Argentine balance of trade. The restriction of imports may limit our ability to purchase capital goods that are necessary for our operations, which may, in turn, adversely affect our business, financial condition and results of operations.

If the fuses keep blowing because the system is overloaded you have a problem that cannot fixed by just replacing the fuses.
You have a problem in that grid cannot provided the power capacity that is required and therefore needs to be upgraded.
So blaming the problem on someone not changing the fuses is stupid.

A perfectly reasonable question, Does Argentina make transformers? Surely that is a capital item. @69 well said Sir, It is certainly something more than fuses, it is probably the very poor in the shanty towns just bypassing the system, it is very easy to do. Most Argentinians would not have a problem with that. We in the west think about our fellow men, and generally abide by the law. In Arg no-one bothers to take anyone to court because they know that they cannot get recompence as the poor have no money.

@70 Exactly. To bring it down to a very basic level, if a fuse blows there is a reason. If you just replace the fuse it will blow again. You need to deal with what is causing the fuse to blow.

The shanty towns are allowed to tap into the grid without ever paying for the electricity and without fear of prosecution. They are protected by the government because they vote for the government.

The capacity and load is measured by the company that distributes the power. They are perfectly aware of their needs and the demands of the grid. The biggest consumer is the industry and any increase in demand doesn't happen overnight, but does follow the development of the nation.
A heatwave is no excuse to have the grid down for a week.
If the problem is insufficient power, it's not something that occured, the power companies KNEW it, and it's more their fault for not having adressed the problem accordingly. You could argue they didn't have the means, but they never issued a warning (that I know of) that the average consumption was reaching te maximum output. Their responsability.

And golfcronie, 100 transformer stations wouldn't help Argentina at this point, simply because those don't produce electricity...

I don't think power supply systems use fuses, they use circuit breakers. The circuit breaker is designed to trip if the current through them exceeds the capacity of the downstream circuitry.

If the demand exceeds the capacity of the circuit then resetting the circuit breaker will simply cause it to pop again. (so “changing a fuse” will simply not work in thsi situation) There are only 2 methods of restoring power in this situation. 1. Wait for people to turn off enough equipment (and disconnect any illegal drains on the power supply) such that the demand drops below the circuit capacity such that the circuit breaker can be reset, or 2. Invest in more power lines to be able to supply the required demand.

Another possiblity is that you simply don't have enough power to supply the demand. In which case the supply company has 3 options 3. Turn off sections of the circuit to reduce demand on the system - result blackouts, 4. Attempt to provide reduced power - result brownouts, or 5. Invest in more power generation capacity.

I don't know the technicalities of choosing between 3 and 4 but I suspect that when things are really bad, 4 isn't an effective option - it will just mean that nobody has effective power rather than the lucky few.

It seems clear that neither 2 or 5 has occured with the inevitable results that you have 1, 3 and 4 as your only options.

A transformer station isn't a power supplier, it's a power distributor (in this case) and the do indeed have fuses, although circuit breakers are common as well. Either way, the system is the same, they are dimensioned to cut off in case of an overload to protect the station. (Hence, golfcronie, there will seldom be a need to replace a transformer as they are protected, unless they blow up, that is...)
When the fuse (or circuit breaker) cuts off, the overload is indeed gone, as no machinery will EVER start automatically when power returns, that's just a safety issue. And light bulbs don't count, they have no influence in the overload, we are after all talking about Terawatts...
The fact that you blame the shanty Towns is ridiculous, as the amount of electricity these places consume, in total, is less than any major factory by itself.

Now if one of these booster stations were to have a problem, do you think there could be a dire consequences or not. Maybe problems with the turbines, not off the shelf items.

Mmmm...I know a bit about power supply....a transformer is more a piece of electrical equipment that transfers energy by inductive coupling between its winding circuits than a machine.
Large transformer are cooled some air cooled, some liquid cooled....they do overheat with load and are only good for 10 to 15 years...increased heat and overload will cause problems...
Machinery in a power circuit will automatically start as the grid is designed to trip...power off...then resumes after a few seconds..if it trips again it resumes after so many minutes..it it trips again it goes off and isolates so many poles and as the circuit is a loop the power continues except where the problem is...
High temperatures will cause problems...different from winter because it occurs during peak overload...when it's hottest so it's occurring during peak consumption...daytime not evening....air conditioners etc....
Also increased temperatures causes increased resistance and thermal expansion puts extra strain on components leading to failure...
    That's all I know....

Argentina experienced a record requirement for electricity on the 19th dec 2013, that requirement was for 23,334 MW of which Uruguay supplied some 2% namely 500 Mw after being asked by the Argie government to supply everything that was possible. So it seems they knew they had a problem. So what is the problem, as everyone is saying it is the distribution. I suspect it has more to do with the subsidies and consequently the distribution companies find it impossible to invest. Any thoughts or does anyone know the answer?

I remember that in 2009 Brazil and Paraguay had a worse-than-usual blackout.
A power outage occurred throughout much of Brazil and the entirety of Paraguay, on 10/11/ 2009. The blackout affected 60 million people in Brazil alone.

It began about 10pm on Tuesday the 10th and lasted until about 3am on Wednesday in São Paulo, although power was restored gradually in some places from before midnight.

They said that heavy rains and strong winds caused three transformers on a key high-voltage transmission line to short circuit, cutting the line and automatically causing the complete loss of 14 GW of power and the shutdown of the Itaipu Dam for the first time in its 25-year history.

The power cut affected 18 of the country's 26 states, and brought chaos to cities including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Campo Grande and Vitória.

More recent major outages across Brasil have usually been attributed by the politicians to 'lightning' blowing transformer and distribution complexes. The scale of these outages is often vast.

That is quite possible indeed, but that's because there was a short Circuit and broken lines. That's material damage.
This is a heatwave with a supposed overload.
If the power isn't enough to keep people alive, it must mean that something is using the power, or they are merely not producing enough electricity.
It could also be that somebody is taking their time to fix te fuses (or Circuit breakers). Personally, I don't think they don't produce enough electricity to keep people alive but do so to keep the biggest power consumer, the industry, going. You could argue those have their own generators. Fine, but then, where IS the power going, the one they DO produce?
An overload is NOT a reason to have the power off for a week. A transformer station that goes might be, and most definitively fallen wires. But not an overload. Especially not is it's killing people.

    Faz
You are an electrical engineer, are you?

    Uruguay supplies electricity to Argentina
I dont pretend to be an electrical engineer, just the thinking man on the bondi
The policy of selling electricity to Argentina without a quid pro quo is suicidal.
Capatanich the new Argentine czar in a recent press conference refused to acknowlege that Uruguay was supplying any power to Argentina at all, but from what other posters say its 500Mw
This represents the entire production of the hydro dams on the Rio Negro.
The water storage resource for generation on those dams is 135 days. There has been very little rain for the past 90 days to replenish the main reservoir, so we have perhaps enough water in the “battery” for only another 95 days generation at a reduced rate because as the head in the turbines falls less electricity is generated
Are we going to get paid? Hmmmmmm...I wonder.
So the whole of our power is produced from expensive imported oil plus a bit that comes from the timber companys like UPM, the paper mill that Argentina protests so much about.
Electricity prices here are horrendous and due to rise another 7% next month. My basic tariff is $44.50per kW -thats over U$D2.and on top of that there is a 22% IVA (value added tax)
Is Argentina going to get charged IVA too? Ha ha
We have had some outages in cities in the interior. Nothing serious, but the folk affected are not happy campers when they have no power because of electricity being transmitted to Argentina
Uruguay is not self sufficient in power.and at times has to import from Brazil and Argentina.
Well if someone else will let me continue I will develope the argument in a further post.

A year or two ago Uruguay contracted to buy the entire power supply from Paraguay of their share of the Yacareti dam. This would have to come through grid lines of Argentina. The charge was so preposterous that the project had to be abandoned. So much for the free movement of goods and services within the Mercosur!
Last winter Uruguay had to import power from Argentina.Talking off the record to some engineers in UTE, Argentina decided to cut the power to Uruguay giving 21 minutes notice and not only that demanded that the Uruguayan generating capacity of Salto should be diverted to the Argentine grid
Unlike most countries our hydro is base load and you cant fire up a thermal station in 20 minutes to cope with the load
Perhaps one good thing thats come out of Argentina draggingits feet out of spite is our governments decision to go it alone on the regasification plant for LNG.
LNG would certainly be more economic to fire a new power station than the diesel plants in operation at present
Slightly off topic I know but ojala that Uruguay should undertake the dredging of the Canal Martin Garcia on their own and to hell with CARU and CARP

redpoll, I agree Argentina has some issues. But look at the World. How do you expect Uruguay to sign any favourable trade deals without anything to trade with? I understand France in its protectionism. They have no intentions in putting their farmers out of work. I agree with that. I agree with a trade bloc that preserves the right to work. Uruguay needs to produce more and import less. That's why I also agree with the regasificadora. Pepes last year will deal with that, the port, the ferrocarril and the mines, the last ones I fully disagree with. You can't say Pepe didn't do great, should he pull that through...

There are some very amusing comments on this thread, mostly from Stevie, which Leiard summarizes nicely @75.

@Stevie, when was the last time Edenor turned a profit?

Exactly, hence the reason they can't invest in the distribution network. They have to beg for subsidies from the government every quarter just to cover costs. You can't expect aging infrastructure to hold up in the current conditions. It is not a matter of changing fuses.

There is also an issue on the generation side, hence the programmed power cuts.

    @76 Stevie,

I never said anything about transformers so why you picked up on that is a bit odd. I know exactly how transformers work and they are a component of the distribution system.

The fact remains that there are two potential causes of power cuts:
    1. An overloaded distribution system (i.e. cables, transformers, fuses, circuit breakers, light bulbs), or
    2. Insufficient power generation (power stations, energy bought from Uruguay etc.).

You can fix either of these by investment.

As Leiard points out in #75 you appear confused and as well as confirming the possibility of 1 you are suggesting a 3rd possibility involving some sort of conspiracy involving politicians, young castrated cattle and other mysterious unexplained forces. If by this you mean that the people in power have created a system where either 1 or 2 can occur on a regular basis then I think you've finally stumbled on the correct cause of Argentina's problems, albeit by an unusual route. Well done. :-)

If the cause is an increase in demand, it doesn't happen overnight, and they must've veen running near maximum capacity for a while.

A-HOLE, you will find a fuse in the plug on your curlers too, but we are talking about the grid. If its been off in RGland in the same area for a week it must be equipment failure, lack of grid resiliance, poor grid planning or gross incompetence....take your pick? In civilised countries when demand cannot be satisfied, power cuts would be rotated and the grids design would allow that. But, if there were lots of illegal hook ups like in the villas that would complicate things. Spanish practices once again.. What a palava!

“....maybe he knows more about power systems than you do about importing a car into Canada from the US......”

I thought u were on 'holidays', or did you get your power back?

Yes, I do know quite a bit about buying and importing cars from the 'States, thanks.
I DO know which cars will be profitable or not, and which ones are eligible.

I am surprised that you went to all that effort to google about importing - all on my behalf. What a pal !

Meanwhile, on topic, does Stevie really know that the Argentinian power grid is in fine shape?
Does he know who exactly is keeping BA in the dark deliberately, and threatening the lives of the poor ?

Could it be BK's delightful Cristina, trying to discredit the private power company, paving the road to 'Nationalisation'?

I can't imagine why they would want to nationalize the power companies. They don't have any money, U$Billions need to be spent in upgrades, which the Gov't doesn't have and can't get, plus all of the equipment would be imports so it's a further drain on Reserves. So while all of that is bad the worse part would be the continued outages would all fall on the Gov't.
Macri already said he doesn't want it.
Various outages was one of the main motivations that made me move back to the USA. I couldn't take lights going out, internet out, airlines strikes, road strikes etc etc. All for no reason, light rain, heat, little wind, it was always something and after awhile I just couldn't take it any longer.
BUT I knew a difference I knew blackouts were supposed to be rare not a monthly occurrence. That's the difference when you live in a sh*thole you just don't know any better. You think everyplace is like it is there. You end up expecting things not to work or to be delayed and you happy when they aren't. Totally different way of thinking and another reason why they'll never ever succeed.
I also asked my friends why oh why did Rgs pick Italians or Spanish to do infrastructure. For gosh sakes they have the same problems in EU much less a remote country. Why not pick the USA where we know what we are doing and our lights barely ever go out? He said they don't like the USA and prefer to do business with other latins.
    Sheesh
You get what you pay for.
    Explains a lot huh?
Day 14, up to 800K users affected.
    Continued civil unrest
At least 4 more days of heat
    Will this be the spark?
    We should know shortly.

As Yankeeboy says , “ will this be the spark?”

Somehow, I can't see this as deliberate.
The power company is already facing enough animosity, surely they would restore power if they could.
Macri can't be happy to see what is happening to his city and his people. He has refused to take responsibility for the electrical utility, as proposed by CFK.
Do you think he knows what kind of shape it's in, perhaps?

What about Cristina? Could she care so little for Macri's people of BA, that she would prolong their suffering?
Would she want even more unrest when some are already calling for her impeachment ?

Do they need US $ for fuses ?

Our grid system needs work also but it is NOWHERE near the decay as in Argentina.

    @ 99 Stevie

It is you who are mixing terms:

    1) Expected (or normal) load: the load that the grid was DESIGNED to carry for most of the time and is typically 50% of the trip loads, it includes periods of normal high loads such as when people go out to make a hot drink in the adverts. The system components operate within their rated values of current and temperature (A & T);

    2) Unexpected demand: as it says, loads that would not normally be expected at that time of the 24 hour period. Generators sell electricity at various prices for the time of day. Commercial contracts are usually lower than normal price if the customer accepts disconnection or voltage reduction due to UD. The whole loading is well within the design loading of the system, rated A & T not exceeded;

    3) High demand: unusual loading for the time of day. May result in minor A & T rating excesses and will be relatively local to an area. The generator will advise the retail suppliers that if the load continues they may risk disconnection (contractual limits exceeded);

    4) Unacceptable demand, large users only: conditions within the users equipment are leading to excessive heating on system components due to phase difference agreements not being adhered to. Real risk of disconnection to protect system integrity. User will need to modify working parameters or use phase control equipment;

    5) Excessive demand: this is what is happening in general in The Dark Country at this moment by the look of the problems on the ground. Actual demand is approaching design demand by a large margin and in excess of ED by 50%. Component A & Ts way off specification and the resulting heating of the components is exacerbating the problem.

    6) Tripping demand: as 5) but with even more demand: self-disconnection of the system major elements to protect the vital components such as main transformers. Wide area disconnections which the generators dare not reconnect no matter how much the government threatens.

Cap, I go by my experiences, I've lived in the same place for 8 years now. We've had hurricanes, ice storms, snow storms, wind storms and not once have my lights even flickered. Not once.
I lived in BA for 5 yrs, I had any number of brownouts and blackouts. All of my electronics were from the USA. Every single one of them was ruined not once but multiple times from brownouts and getting too much electric when it came back on.
I don't know how many U$1000s I had to spend replacing everything.
I used to laugh and call my friends crazy that they unplugged stuff when they went away for a couple days, refrigerators, washing machines, computer etc. Until I learned why they had to do it. They grew up in it.

Can you imagine unplugging your refrigerator and washing machine if you went away for a couple days in the USA? We don;t even turn off a/c! It's a crazy way to live. It's like battered wife syndrome. You just kind of take it and take it no matter how terrible it is because you don't know that life could be better somewhere else.
    Crazy.
I am so glad I live in the USA

@102 “I can't imagine why they would want to nationalize the power companies.”

They are already nationalized in practice, when CFK took the pensions they also put directors in every company the pension funds had shares in, including energy companies. Since then the government is running the energy companies. They are blaming the companies because the people don't read newspapers so they don't know the companies are de facto nationalized but everyone knows it's the government's fault.
Don't worry, soon they will double the rates plus ration fuel and every single imported good until we get enough dollars, if ever.

“Can you imagine unplugging your refrigerator and washing machine if you went away for a couple days in the USA? We don;t even turn off a/c! It's a crazy way to live. Welcome to the third world. And trust me, we are even lucky to complain about blackouts, some people can't even afford to eat let alone electricity. We know life could be better somewhere else but we also know there isn't room for everyone in the first world. Life is a lottery, some get the jackpot, some get screwed, some get a tiny prize, and if you don't like it, well... “life is unfair, get over it”.

You say the theft of electricity is insignificant but the legal consumer has to pay for it in increased bills
Uruguay has no copper mines but is a major exporter of scrap copper.I think UTE had to replace nearly 100 kilometers of wiring last year. These layabouts not only steal electricity but the copper wiring too.
Even your pinup boy Pepe tried to prohibit copper scrap exports to control the thefts last year. I dont care what your politics are but instead of sniping from Scandahovia, perhaps you should come home and put your pesos worth into helping fix the problems

We ALL know who you are on about and I don’t care at all.

I cannot help your lack of drive when you were at school and, because you say you are not 60, YOU must have chosen the military who are not known for educating certain personnel very broadly, if at all.

I on the other hand have ACTUALLY done most of the engineering things here personally or I have been consulted as to how I would do them for large corporations, three of them American. I HAVE been in senior management with the GEC Co. Ltd. and others. At one time I was responsible for 32 brick, tile and concrete products works in the UK.

I was going to join the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers (REME) when I first qualified and could have entered as a Second Lieutenant (YES, I know it’s the first rung, but I was only 22 YO) but I met the girl who turned out to be my wife. So, you see, that is why I try to keep reasonably informed to the point where I have signed The Official Secrets Act for my work involving the MoD. I envy your practical experience, whatever it is.

I don’t however enjoy you putting unsubstantiated guesses as to why I left the UK, especially as I have explained the reason on more than one occasion. Is claiming I had to leave and have a criminal record pleasing to you, even though it is lies?

I am also studying Astro-physics at MIT, here is the home page of MITOPENCOURSEWARE:

But I know what really bothers you, don’t I? I have given up believing in the unbelievable and giving money to the kiddie fiddlers. That’s it, isn’t it?

That, as they say, is YOUR problem, not mine.

If you live to be 67 which is my age now you will never be as educated as me and again that’s YOUR problem.

Now you can rant and rave and lie about me, I don’t care but this will be the last time I reply to you, no matter what.

Another massive FAIL! You stand for nothing. And you are an embarrassment.

Chasing me around this site vainly attacking is only highlighting the paucity of your beliefs and opinions.

You will never be able to back up your statement that I despise the poor. What a stupid thing to say. How could someone even generalise like that is beyond me. Argentina is not poor because they are lazy or lack the ability. They are BECOMING poorer because their system doesn’t work. They vote in politicians that operate under a bankrupt philosophy. Kirchnerism is just the latest variant of economic mismanagement that has taken Argentina from being the economic and social jewel of Latin America to a has-been.

How can countries with similar histories and cultures such as Chile and Colombia be getting it so right. For all their faults, they are at least advancing. For every advancement that Argentina makes it then destroys it. Alleviating poverty is a waste of time when you have 30% inflation. Nurturing manufacturing industry is a waste of time when it is for import substitution; it should be to compete with imports and then export.

Australia being rich is a BYPRODUCT of what makes this country great. The rule of law. Checks and balances. Social inclusion. Economic reform. Taking responsibility for our mistakes and not manufacturing external imaginary enemies.

I despise stupidity. Of which you are one of the main culprits on here, just like Nostrils who is finally pissing off and giving us all a break for 2 weeks. You watch how quickly he races back on here.

The fact that you feel the desire to continually bring up my homosexuality so frequently only shows that you lack the ability to gain traction on any other form of attack. The simple fact that you deliberately misspell my name after a year is proof of how amateur you are at arguing.

I am so under your skin because you are so transparent and morally vacuous.

For Christ's sake lay off the sherry.

Your comebacks are getting weaker and more pathetic as my day (and your night) progresses. Did someone get a divorce for Christmas?

What I have learnt in my life is that pathetic weak-willed individuals, like you, that don't even live by their own creed and beliefs; are a dime a dozen and just as easy to demolish with a well reasoned and thought out argument.

Why am I spoilt? Because I make sacrifices and work for my country while you live half a world away from yours and pontificate from on high. Living a lifestyle that many in your country would aspire to but are unable to especially when following your ideology.

Wealth is more than income. Being rich is more than money. If you actually carefully read before vainly attempting to attack me you would realise that. Wealth is about feeling safe. From crime and from your own government. Wealth is about achieving your aspirations and safeguarding your future. As I said, AUSTRALIA BEING RICH IS A BYPRODUCT from our civil society and government and how they operate.

A superior lifestyle is not having to work if you are a child but being able to go to school. Not having a government lie to you that you are not living in poverty when you can't afford the bare minimum to survive. Not about having your government spend millions on rockets and worthless speeches at the UN on irredentist lies when you don't have running water or sewerage.

  • Anglotino

What travel has taught me is there is more than one way to run a country and some methods are more successful than others. Argentina is NOT well run. Argentineans aspire to the same things that Australians aspire to. To earn a living wage. To feel safe in their home. To give their children greater opportunities than they had. And sometimes those aspirations are materialistic but most times they are more basic and close to the heart. Like making sure elderly parents have a comfortable and dignified retirement and not have their savings confiscated by the government nor have them eroded by sky high inflation. Being free to enjoy the fruits of their labour without it being decimated by taxes, inflation or confiscation.

You keep attacking me for the sake of attacking me, not because you offer any alternatives. You just offer platitudes to Argentina. Vacuous sycophantic platitudes that are meaningless.

Not only are you piss-weak, but you keep coming back for more and more and more. Something in your life must be really getting you down for you to keep putting yourself up for this sort of treatment by me again and again.

    Give it up, Stevie.

He answered every one of your accusations and threw them back in your face.
Far from “making fun of poor people”, he condemned the people who prey upon them for gain, and the callous ideologues who support them, like yourself.

You ignore the plight of the Argentinian people and condone the actions of a corrupt regime robbing them blind.
Anglotino was absolutely spot on when he said “Steevie puts ideology before people”.
You yourself, are the most haughty and judgemental poster on MP.

The best you could manage in response were feeble personal insults and bluster that Australia was not perfect and jealous comments about there quality of life.

With their model of government and Rule of Law, they seem to be faring a damn sight better than Argentina - an Argentina with a 'populist' government.

#135 Obviously you dont cycle. We were on our way back from Tarbet. Why cycle a shorter route if its so unpleasant, the bridge and that road is bighted with fast traffic? Anyway I had never been through Dunoon. I was interested to see where folk retire to when they have no money. The only impressive thing that day was the Gents toilet on Rothesay.

@137. Did you know waiters in good restaurants in the US earn $150,000 per year? You shouldn't use the wages earned as a waiter in Argentina as a reference for your insults because wages are pretty shit there. Argentineans are poor tippers as are Brazilians, you should hear the Chileans complain about them being so cheap.

You know only too well that yankeeboy is not a waiter but what is wrong with being a waiter? It can be a good earner for hard work in the US and is probably why there are so many Argentinean waiters in places like Miami. They are earning a respectable living.

Ferry from Tarbet to Portavadie, then over to Tignabruich, round the top, over the little ferry to Rothesay. Quick pee in the toilet and ferry to Weyms bay. An easy ride for any decent touring cyclist. Its nothing compared to doing BA to Ushuai. Lazy slobs usually dont know their own back yards.

Of all the waiters employed in the US what percentage do you think make good money or work in good restaurants?

...and why do people usually work as a waiter?
...because they are unskilled and unqualified to do anything else...there are exceptions to the rule....students etc...but the majority....“Would you like your eggs over easy or sunny side up”

@143 How would you know? I am pretty sure I spend more time in South AMerica than you do. You may be xenophobic but the majority of South Americans are not.

@145 You miss my point, again. You need to stop using your personal experience as a reference point. Waiting can be a good profession and well paid in good restaurants. Try eating in quality restaurants with good service and you will understand. Sneering at someone working as a waiter for what ever reason is not attractive.

@146 Tipping was effectively suspended after the last crash in Argentina. Restaurants were so grateful for any customers that they did not expect a tip. However, it is more customary to leave some loose change than give a decent tip now. I always tip but many friends from Argentina do not. Chileans tend to tip and they dread Argentinean and Brazilian tourists as they are tight.

As a rule I check the norm for each country I visit and tip accordingly, extra if service has been good.

I once ran into two Mormons walking around in the middle of Las Heras, on the dodgier north side of Mendoza, just a block from the square, coming out of the supermarket on the corner. They stopped me and started their proselytizing, and the conversion attempt (well, in my case nothing to convert me from, that was before I converted to TTTism following the death of the legendary and one-and-only TTT).

I of course shocked them when I responded in fluent English. I asked them what they would think if some argies went up to the USA, and started converting blacks and indians into some sort of argentine-suffused religion. They claimed not to understand so I told them from where I stand, all USA religions trace themselves back to a concept now forgotten called “manifest destiny”. A similar concept existed in Argentina in the 19th century, and was the cause of much suffering for many people.

They responded that “something” out there was trying to confuse me, and that I should attend a gathering with them as I have not seen anything until I have seen God. Reminds me of the Anglos here, confronted with the facts all they can respond is “well, you've traveled nowhere, so you can have no opinions”. lol

Both equally flabbergasted when confronted with my noetic prowess.

@167 Gosh, that is some inferiority complex you have there. Stop being embarrassed about where you came from and embrace it. Why not visit Argentina some time, it is not all bad. The economy is shit but the people are very friendly and welcome everyone, including the English.

It is traditional for some workers to be tipped, waiters, hairdressers, taxi drivers, bell staff, to name but a few. Their wages are set at a level where it is expected that they will receive additional money in the form of tips according to the traditions of the country. You may not know it but the basic wage of a waiter will be less than kitchen staff because of the expected tips. So, when you are too mean to keep with the custom of the country and tip, you are depriving the waiter of his earned and expected wages.

I have no respect for people too mean to tip. If you can't afford to tip, don't go to a restaurant with waiter service. There are plenty of McDonalds and other fast food places around.

Far be it for me to defend A_Voice but he does know the Clyde area.
The weather in this region has been atrocious for the past week. Screaming gales and torrential rain. I don't know where he lives as he refuses to say but the Holy Loch can be badly affected when there is a high tide, severe SW gales and continual torrential rain The river Eachaig feeds into the Loch from Loch Eck which is a large deep freshwater loch which itself is filled by numerous burns coming down 1600 feet hills. In certain conditions the wind and tides bottle up the water in the Holy Loch at one end and the fresh water cannot flow out at the other end. The result is flooding in the land next to sea level.
Locally, in Ayr, the river Ayr is about as high as I have seen it in 43 years. Crossing the Auld Brig-600 years old - I was praising the builders who built it and generations who kept it in good repair.
No scientific calculations in those days. Lets make a bridge that is over strong for any eventualities and will stay up.
I suggest you and Voice meet and resolve your differences with Finnan Haddies at dawn at a mutually agreed venue.

The screaming gales and torrential rain has affected the whole of the UK. Just sayin'.

Scotland ASKED to join the UK in return for England paying off their debts. You need to study history a little more. And if Scotland wants to be free of 'English' subsidies no one is going to stand in their way, least of all the English. As it stands about 25% of Scots are in favour of independence which says a lot.

At the same time, concessionary companies Edenor and Edesur say the amount of power is sufficient, but the interconnection system is old and obsolete. The state (Ente Nacional de Regulación Eléctrica) has not maintained or invested in it in the last 20 years, which means that high consumption may cause overload on wires, which explode and cut the supply.
With fixes that are temporary and partial, everything becomes damaged again.

In summary, citizens lit the fire in Argentina that has caused the climate today.
The problem is our traditional “lack of inherent wisdom” to foresee that we were standing above the fire and therefore, set our own trap in this inferno.

A simplistic English view of things !
In clarification, Scotland did NOT “ask England to join the UK”.....YOU need to study history. The population of Scotland had no say in the matter. Universal franchise did not exist then in either country. Check on these sources.
    rampantscotland.com/know/blknow_union.htm
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/british/empire_seapower/acts_of_union_01.shtml#three.

The Convention of Royal Burghs also petitioned against the Union and not one petition in favour of an incorporating union was received by the Scottish Parliament. On the day the treaty was signed, the carilloner in St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, rang the bells in the tune Why should I be so sad on my wedding day? There were also massive protests in Edinburgh and several other Scottish burghs on the day it was passed by Parliament as threats of widespread civil unrest resulted in Parliament imposing martial law.
Hardly a groundswell of popular approval for the Union !!

@231 Yes, I was offering a simplistic view but when you boil down the facts it still come to the same result. Scotland joined the union and England paid off its considerable debts, it was a willing union.

You didn't comment on the fact that a mere 25% of Scots want independence now. See, we all like to complain about some other country but the truth is Scots benefit more from being part of the union. It is like people whining about the person they are married to but never divorcing.

Elaine said at #224 Scotland ASKED to join the UK in return for England paying off their debts,

My reply was rebutting this statement quoting a couple of sources.
I neither said nor inferred ANYTHING about the current debate on Scottish independence.
How could the Union in 1707 have anything to do with your declaration of independence in 1775 ?
Applying 21st century standards to 18th century events. What has this got to do with anything I wrote. Please explain this IN THE CONTEXT OF MY POST !!!

Yankee our rulers were both myopic and arrogant back in those days. Things really changed with Atlees government immediately after WWII, that was when people power really asserted itself and the Downton Abbey lot faded away. Its odd that people in the US and SA still see the British as haughty and arrogant. 99% of Britons arent like that. Colonialism ceased in the 50s and 60s and as Elaine says the English are fairly indifferent about total Scottish Independence. The only thing that concerns everyone, including the Scots, is disentangling ourselves from each other. Just like in Scotland there are English folk that see Scottish Independence as an opportunity to get rid of the Scottish MPs in Parliament and thus get more sensible market economy policies. Scotland is very left wing generally. A lot of my friends in Scotland say they would leave to live in England if Independence happens. They fear a Peronist type of state where everything gets nationalised becoming inefficient and ruled by dogma. Anyway its up to the people living in Scotland themselves to decide...

Also I don't think you are correct in thinking US citizens see Brits as haughty and arrogant. For awhile most of my friends would go party in London on long weekends. It is a quicker and easier flight than to LA or SF and in my opinion a lot more fun. Of course that was a few years ago when my gang actually partied! We are now more interested in dining and turning in early! We also tend to gravitate to warmer climates now too. Surprise surprise.

Cap't just one minor adjustment, let's add.....most, many...majority for USA citizens as opposed to all, then I can agree. I think it is because the English.....at least the one's I met and fairly well mannered and it may make some the the cowboyish, blunt Americans feel that way. And, you probably know that the vast majority of Americans are seriously enthralled with English royalty. @231 Clyde 15

You say “The population of Scotland had no say in the matter.” regarding the Union.

I would also like to add that the populations of England and Wales also had no say in the matter either.

That isn't how things worked back then, is it? The ruling classes made all of the decisions, and the ruling classes in Scotland decided that union with England was as way to prevent Scotland (and by extension themselves) from becoming bankrupt. The Union saved Scotland, and you would be naive to belive otherwise.

In fact, Scotland gained far more from the Union than either England or Wales did, and Scotland has been a good partner in the Union, but it is an unequal partnership. Scotland has far more independance, gets more money and benefits than the English, Welsh or Irish do. Yet all the Scottish appear to do is complain about how 'unfair' everything is.

The majority of people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland would vote to give Scotland its independance right now, as they are fed up with the Scottish apparently playing the 'victim' all of the time, when they are, infact, the greatest beneficiaries of the Union.

I myself, believe in the Union, but if Scotland wants to go it alone, then so be it. But if it does happen, then Scotland will truly be alone, the rest of the UK won't be bailing you out a 2nd time. After all, this time the PEOPLE will have a say in the matter, won't they?

However, we digress from the thread, which is Argentina not having much luck right know, especially with power etc... and with increasing civil unrest.

Troy, Captain Poppy, thats in response to Voices claim that I have been lying about my cycle trip through his home town. That toilet at Rothesay is famous, it has won national awards. Its a very fancy marbled Victorian creation. A lady sits in a little booth or something collecting money and selling postcards. My pal and I had cycled the Southern Hebrides islands staying a few days on Islay at the Jazz festival. We diverted via Voices town because we missed a ferry. Of course he refuses to believe that because he is obviously an indolent (probably overweight) motorist that can hardly walk up the high street. I started cycle touring when I retired and now in my 70s I think it makes you at least 10 years younger than you actually are. I have plenty more photos in that set to embarass Voice who doesnt know his own area very well.

Lets backtrack to the original posts and read what was actually said !
    Elaine said
Scotland ASKED to join the UK in return for England paying off their debts
I pointed out that it was a decision by the Scottish parliament - not the people and I also said universal franchise did not exist then in EITHER country which meant ALSO that the population of England and Wales had NO say in the matter.
If she had said the Scottish Parliament instead of Scotland then I would have agreed.
You can take what you will from the other two links I gave.
I also gave you a piece about what the feeling among the Scottish population was AT THAT TIME- they felt they had been sold out by their own Parliament.
Yankee, you still don't understand I AM TALKING IN THE CONTEXT OF THE 1700's!!!

Hardly a groundswell of popular approval for the Union -IN 1707
    and
The population of Scotland had no say in the matter. - again IN 1707
    You say:-
Those 2 sentences make your post OUT OF CONTEXT with the 1700's
I think American English and the language I speak must mean something different if you cannot understand what I said.

Anyway, it has given the anti-Scots a chance to get their posts in to remind us up here at how lucky we are to have such a benevolent partner who gives us freely of the country's riches when we are totally undeserving of their altruism. Thank you massa and goodnight !

Will Germany see a flair-up in riots due to rampant underemployment?

Will Italy still have the Euro?

“Cozy ing up to the US posters... ”

Not really - he did to them what he is doing to you about Dunoon etc.

He stupidly claimed he could get to his “property” in 3 hrs from 3 different airports - and got cut to ribbons.

    - Claimed to get through urban traffic congestion and average 75 mph along PA backroads,
    - Claimed to fly into Toronto and cross the border at Niagara Fslls, without taking into account traffic congestion en route to the border and the hour + wait at the border - then changed his story.
    - would have to rent a car each time, cross a border with it, and then he would be required to keep it and return it to its point of origin and country of origin :-)
    - now he says that would be too expensive for him and he would buy a 4x4 pickup truck to run from the airport and back !!
How much would that cost to leave at an airport parking lot until the next visit LOL!!
Not to mention that cars frequently go missing or get stripped, at US and Canadian long-term lots!

So much for the 'noble' Tupamaro' veteran, Stevie!

At least the “Guzz/Stevie” troll has imploded over the past few days and shown his true racist and bigotted self !

His “SA is for Hispanics only” rant and his “English hatred” posts have pretty much knocked him off his self-righteous perch, not to mention the blatant hypocrisy of his Anarchist 'moralising'.

Notice too, that he took great glee in describing a US operative prisoner peeing himself in fear as he was being tortured to death by the Tupas heroes.

No credibility left for this Troll. Just a real asshole.

I just got home last night from the Toronto area where we spent Christmas.
The ice storm caused many blackouts and a State of Emergency should have been called.

“Took great glea in describing a US operative prisoner. - No, I didn't. I said ”rumours say” and little else. Mitrione wasn't tortured. When the Tupa in charge entered his cell to give Mitrione a pen and paper to write home with, he (the Tupa) did so without covering his face. Yes he did meltdown and is true racist side took the best of him. Odd thing is too, at least in Argentina the majority of people are Euro descent and are caucasians.
New Years Eve was great......went to a ball and was seated at a table with a younger couple from Yorkshire........very nice they were. And his wife was of Puerto Rico descent.

That Mitrione story gets the best of him. His values precludes him from hurting and killing but obviously does not preclude him from condoning it. Mitrione was not a field trained operative. Certain people ultimately know their fate and destiny.

Troy have you noticed that when he does speak to someone directly, he always makes statement that individual have never made and tends to talk at them in the broadest of sense. He is inconsistent as well speaking directly at you yet calling you “lot” rotten. I've never in my life felt superior to anyone, but I can say I feel my opportunities far exceed lil stevies.....even though he earns wages as he is asleep in the control room. Explains a lot about SA then........everyone must be asleep in the control room, especially in the electric generation plants. Whats even funnier is to make a statement that he earns more without even knowing what someone earns. More statements without any facts....typical of him.

Maybe the blackouts are because the electric started their Christmas holiday to days before Christmas even began and they all just went home and did not worry anymore about what they did.

Then they came in for half a day and flipped a bunch of switches on and off, and after that half day of coming in to work after their extended Christmas holiday. They went back home for their New Year's holiday. Again, never mind the electricity.

Then, maybe they all decided to stay home on January 2nd too. After all, it is “holiday” time. Maybe all those people who are critical of this, need to lighten up and not have such a hard ass mentality. It's the holiday time, lighten up!!

Mercopress is off on holiday for 3 weeks now. Why would there be anything new over the holidays anyway.

Maybe the electric company say that Mercopress got a 3 week holiday from what they do, and they decided they should just be able to go home for 3 weeks too.

Hahaha 60.000 dollars for having your apêndix removed, what is nothing but a routine operation even in 4th world countries.

Wow, Americans must be the dumbest people on Earth to get fleeced so brazenly and obviously. That country is doomed.

Capt, have no qualms about feeling superior to “Stevie”, you undoubtedly are, as an individual. I never hear ravist remarks from you, nor do I recall you being “arrogant”.
Stevie confirms it every time he opens his yap.
His racist anti-English,/ SA for South American “brothers” only, meltdown gave him away.
I wouldn't say he was a xenophobe, just scared of others, there is an explicit expression of hatred directed at an ethnic group which he identifies as ' not like him', as though that is justification in itself.

He reminds me of the research team that took a group of Rhesus monkeys and coloured one of them green at random - he was viscously attacked and driven away from a community they were an integral part of before.

His hypocrisy and intolerance is obvious as he does his best to villify the Brits (oh, yeah, “English”- because everyone knows they are 'rotten') while his corrupt Argentine government carries on with its lies and thieving.

Stevie is quick to accuse us of “arrogance”, “Imperialism”, and “superiority”.
Sounds like CFK's government to me, reflected in Stevie as an individual.

It's not “English” or English-speaking people's “arrogance”, he seems to have a real inferiority complex, all his own problem.
His country is spirally down to disaster, an economy shattered by a government that steals from its own people.
Meanwhile, our Anglo economies are doing very well in comparison.
Witness how incensed and disbelieving Stevie is, that a middle class Australian can afford to travel widely and scuba dive in foreign countries.

“Stop flaunting your wealth!” - remember that rant??! LOL !!

Then he childishly goes on to brag that he can earn much more, while “sleeping in the Control Room”.

...somehow, I bet he still can't “scuba dive in Indonesia”

It's not Stevie. No, the Anglos are just “not fair”

    Capt.,
    Reading a good book:
A History of the English-Speaking Peoples Since 1900

    By Andrew Roberts (2007)

    Refreshingly “non-apologist”

Yes he really has problems that he does not know where to direct. I really think he hates the cards he was dealt and rather than play the hand he folded in anger. When he resorts to the insults it's obvious he is defeated. When he talks he goes from broad things some others same and then mixes it with some specific things a few say. He is often all over then place. Denouncing the Anglo wars and then proudly stating the execution of Mitrione. He thinks he is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma ( Churchill). At best he is a single cell life.

Sounds like an interesting read. Whether stevie likes the “rotten” (his words) English or not, he should have the intelligence to respect their 2000 years of history and the accomplishments they gave to world. A country does not exist for that long being incompetent. No one is staying in the Commonwealth under duress.

stevie needs to see someone and learn to embrace his heritage rather than resent it. He has a serious inferiority complex.

How does two continents in one hemisphere start a race at the same point and become so far apart? Rhetorical of course.

So now England IS 2000 years old!

I said that a few months ago and the English chewed me for my supposed ignorance.

Then it is 2000 of CRIMES and MASS MURDERS, of others and of themselves!

And what about before 2000 years ago...

Oh, they were living in peat holes, until the Romans taught them how to take a bath.

Yes titti boi tobi.......England as a country is just over 1000 years old. You win that one.......you have a point. And do you think there were different people on that island before the 10th century?

You have to have a little sympathy for TTT and Stevie. They are both so full of self-loathing and burdened with inferiority that they lash out randomly at pretty much anyone they are jealous of. It is misplaced as they should embrace and enjoy the good things they have and stop coveting what everyone else has.

Interesting that other people picked up on Stevie's rage at me for being 'superior' and then flip-flopping to bragging about his earnings.

I would add a little caution to everyone here. I have noticed Stevie is goading people on this and another thread to reveal things about themselves. Tread carefully.

As I said, Elaine, Stevie along with Snotty, shows a very obvious streak of jealousy and as you say, self-loathing.

I can't even say, 'frustrated ambition', as I believe they have none - only entitlement.

It's very clear to every poster here now, that Stevie has no credibility and he is only motivated by his government and his own flaws.

Thier comments are just supercilious goading - not worth a response

They all tend to go through these meltdowns and rant with nothing but insults because the facts are not available. What I got the biggest chuckle over is “he earns more sleeping at the control room”. As I said.....explains a lot.
I've no fears divulging information about me....I even emailed jay....I mean stevie. However, he lacks the bravado he espouses in his posts. I do think he is a bitter young man and angry that he is someone he does not want to be, or the very least not happy he is who he is. He never answers anyones questions, rants about things others post, avoids, evades and diverts. He is afraid to state where he resides, his age and even sex is unknown and this secrecy seems to give him some sort of superiority boost, though most of his ego is fueled by his insults and anger that manifests from his inferiority. He does not see how pathetic he has become over time. He and tobi share the same traits. They also pontificate and rnat about us “monolinguistic” all the while they want an autarkic society. What is the point of be multi-lingual then? As this year unfolds and continues to spiral downward in SA and in particular Argentina, they will implode. They are very sad indeed.

Racist, indoctrinated, jealous, self-loathing and stupid. With minority complex..

Was I indoctrinated to be jealous, or to be racist? A jealous racist is kind of useless, it would mean he understands his supposed superior race actually is inferior... Either way, lets say my teachers really messed up and indoctrinated both, would the low self-esteem be a result of my inferioríty complex, or the other way around? Can low self-esteem result in a complex, or is it a natural response to the complex itself?
I got this.... frustrated ambition... to resolve this issue, because something in my brain is stopping me from wasting my time with a bunch of tossers like you lot, but the little devil in me just can't stop laughing....

I told everyone here that the new generation of Argenines will have NO interest in any of you foreigners. I told you but people like Elaine kept saying “you don't speak for all argentines”. All I wanted to do is warn you all that MY generation has no interest in engaging the world, a world that clearly sees us as “sub-human”. Who would want relations with foreigners like that?

Europe, Asia, and North America can wave bye bye to any relations with Argentina for the next 50 years. LAtin America remains to be seen, but the capitalist way they are all going, it is increasingly doubtful.

@319 You don't speak for the majority of Argentines and you certainly do not speak for your generation. You are sadly mistaken if you think you are representative of Argentines of any age. Every generation has a small disenfranchised group of malcontents who hate themselves and consequently everyone else. You, TTT, have a huge inferiority complex - most probably because of your unfortunate circumstances - that is revealed in the peculiar language that seeps out of you. “Sub-human”? Who on earth, other than you, has ever called you that?

Your government has failed spectacularly. The people of Argentina will have to live through the difficult years ahead caused by the reckless and feckless K's. But they will get through it because they always do. Why you insist on taking the facts so personally is a mystery.

With Nostril's indoctrination and blind belief in the K's, he has spent years deriding the English-speaking people and striking at us in his denial.

Now that his government has failed spectacularly, he can't bring himself to say, “you were right”.
Rather, he must still reject us - it is our fault they tried to cheat us and brought the country to ruin by stealing from their own people.

Now he is the little boy stamping his feet, “I'll show you, I'm not going to play with you anymore”

I think we should let him take his marbles and go home.

TTT just cannot stand any criticism of anything even loosely related to Argentina. He is the product of Nationalism as opposed to Patriotism. It is this Nationalism that allows the K's to get away with their appalling corruption and grand scale theft from the Argentine people. They are brainwashed into not criticising anything Argentine so the government can, and does, do anything it likes. Instead he blames anyone BUT the very people responsible for the terrible state of Argentina.

Still, he is on a night bus (poor sod) to a seaside resort for a family holiday. He would have been better off going to the Vina Del Mar coast as it is closer to Mendoza and has far better beaches than anything Argentina has to offer but I suspect he cannot afford to go out of the country.

Yankee they are so indoctrinated and hateful because they collectively are at the helm(most in SA) and are failing miserably and cannot accept the “otherway” is far better off then they are. What's more strange is their concept of pride in lack of integrity by defaulting on debt. Reminds me of the middle east where lying is almost an honor badge.
