A fake tape of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher arguing over the Falklands War had the British secret services scrambling to identify the culprits, archive files released Friday showed. The tape, supposedly a telephone recording of then US president Reagan and the British prime minister, was anonymously sent to several Dutch newspapers during the 1983 UK general election. Oh the old canard about the sinking of the Belgrano, which, trying to prosecute a Fascist genocide against the harmless Falkland Islanders, met a fate which even the Argentine Navy Chief of Staff admittted it deserved.

@1 How kind of us to wait 30 years to show what toe-rags you are. A useless argie tin can LEGALLY sunk. Warned that anything posing a risk to the Task Force would be attacked wherever it was. Admitted by the Belgrano captain and the argie Defense Ministry before it was taught to lie. What a shame that HMS Conqueror wasn't fast enough to catch and sink the rest of the fleeing argie fleet. Little thought. The ROYAL NAVY stayed on station despite its losses. It's called courage. A British attribute!

Jan 03rd, 2014 - 06:03 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Stevie put in a lot of overtime this holiday, I suppose the rest of the 'Comical Ali' cadre of posters will be taking their turns now.
It's amusing how they work out their holidays each Christmas, and BK fills in at the office to make sure everything is covered.
Stevie was a bit 'overburdened' this year - I doubt he'll see a next year.

Even at the time it was all so terribly amateur.
R: Why was the Belgrano destroyed? You gave the orders to do it. The Argentines were leaving at the time.
Jan 05th, 2014 - 11:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0It was a threat to the British task force-interesting that if it had been the US Navy they would have taken out all of the Argentine ships and hit the mainland.
It was a good thing that Casper Weinberger was the one guy in that administration who saw the Argentines for what they were.
