I don't believe that abortion should be used as a type of contraception, but there are certainly cases were abortion would be up to the woman - not the state or the church.

Massive deformity - if the foetus is massively deformed, then the woman should be given the choice of whether to keep the child or not. Her choice.

Of course, if the Catholic Church changed it's stance on contraception then the need for abortions could be reduced dramatically.
It's stance on contraception is ridiculous, and THEY made it up.
I once had a discussion with a priest about this, and he said that God had said 'go forth and multiply', and that is why the Catholic Church is against contraception.
So I asked the priest: ' Is God all knowing?' and he replied that he was. 'So since God is all knowing, He knows all that has been, all that is, and all that will ever be, then surely God would have actually specifically expressed that contraception was forbidden.' I added. 'The fact that He didn't surely means that contraceptives can be used, and the Catholic Churches stance is based on the opinion of a group of old men who deny the whole principle of going forth and multiplying anyway, so how can anyone believe what they said?'
The priest left quickly after that.
