    What is there to say?
It is a strike and a very damaging one. The port workers take advantage of the high season for export of perishable goods to hold the whole industry hostage.

Perhaps no one comments because there is:

    - no one lying about the issue
    - no one denying that it is happening
    - no Chilean politicians saying that the strike is being orchestrated by (delete as appropriate) foreign pirates / the foreign owned media / spiderman

Just a boring, but damaging industrial dispute.

I begin to understand why the Daggy chap calls you ignorant.

Chile does not have a hysterical and unsupported claim on the Falklands, that's why.

Yes, Condorito, why don't they just stick to the initial arrangement? Is it that bad for the stats?

@4 Why? Can he break one off?
@5, 6 Why don't you give all your “workers” a 30% rise. With your booming economy, you can afford it. 35%?

If the workers were promised such a payment and an agreement or accord was reached stipulating it, the they are due it.

Or was it a secret clause?

I hope Bachelet and the Chilean population are ready! With Chile's move further away from developing to a developed economy, labour law restructuring is inevitable and always leads to disputes as legacy benefits are phased out. Australia in the 80s is a good comparison as we opened the economy up to become more dynamic and competitive and provide a new foundation for growth.

And considering we are now in our 21st consecutive year of economic growth, that new foundation worked.

And who are you? The ozzie minister of tourism?
I bet you are a politician, you fit the job perfectly.

A lot of good ideas for everybody else combined with an apathy to improve your own situation...
21 years and you STILL can't marry whom you wish...

Chile's worst enemies are not always situated inside the countries of the neighboring troika, they can also be in Chile's most strategic locations.
