What the he!! is the “thermal factor”?

“...the thermal factor had climbed to 46.8 and temperature 36 Celsius.”

So the temperature was 36C! This is usually the air temperature taken in the shade. So what is 46.8C the temperature in the sun?

I tried to look this up but couldn't come up with an answer.

Let's just say that last week we had 4 days with temperatures over 40C. Tuesday last week got to 42.8C IN THE SHADE followed by 1 days of 41C and then two days of was 44C IN THE SHADE!

I can only shudder at what the thermal factor was on those days.

    THERMAL UTILIZATION FACTOR?
    ummm... 'thermal utilization factor'
“Probability of a thermal neutron being absorbed by fissile material whether causing fission or not in an infinite reactor core. Symbol f.”
    http://thesciencedictionary.org/thermal-utilization-factor/

No, I still don't have a clue either....

Sounds too hot to even think where you are....

Aaah but it was a nice 23C with rain here this morning Ilsen. Melbourne's weather is extremely variable. On Friday the temperature dropped nearly 15C in 30 mins - depends in the wind is coming off central Australia's deserts or south from the Antarctic.

sounds cool. I'm temporarily back in the UK, weather as to be expected, and body-clock still on Vnzla time.....
Still, nice to see MP is reporting more on Vnzla now. Have had interests there now for over 15 years, but never seen it this bad. The missus tells me prices have gone up nearly 100% in the past 10 days...

    @1

Thermal factor is an artless mercopress translation for “Sensación Térmica”, this is known in some countries as Heat Index, in others ex-Argentina countries as Indice de Bochorno, in others as Indice de chaleur, in others as Hitzeindex, and in others as índice de calor.

Most civilized countries record thermal factor.

Those that do not, force tennis players to play in 5o celcius Heat index, putting in severe risk their lives and those of the spectators, not to speak of the horrible, unpresentable sport spectacle that playing in such conditions causes.

  • Troneas

@1. like Narine has said - its the temperature that it is perceived by the body taking into consideration humidity, wind speed, radiation and other factors.

  • ilsen

Thank you Troneas @6 for the succinct info. Happy to be enlightened. But no, Narine didn't say that, just attempted to translate it... Didn't actually say anything of value, as usual...

@5 ahhh! yes, 'artless MP translation' agreed. In Europe we have something called “Wind-chill factor”, must be similiar, (in reverse tho!). Something you are no doubt familiar with?
Last paragraph completely unnecessary, why the hate? Seriously, please do explain.
Surely the players, spectators etc choose of their own unfettered free will to participate? The massively well-paid players were forced? This is not gladiators in the Roman Empire.....
“unpresentable spectacle” hmmm... forgive me, but the Tennis was 'presented' via a uncensored global media to the world.... perhaps you should choose a different word to express your somewhat random hatred of? hmm... of what exactly?

    Glad you're back.
We will do our uttermost to attend to your needs, of attention.
In the meantime, enjoy South America from the sadness of your lives...

Lets talk about Argentina, your topic of choice, to set the mood...

We must just be a hardier bunch down under than some wussy foreign tennis players. But at least those tennis players had electricity and air con in their accommodation and change rooms. So we are obviously doing better than other poor countries that can't handle temperatures in the 30s and have fortnight long blackouts.

I know what the heat index is. Pity Mercopress doesn't employ native English speakers for its English edition. Though considering no one comments on the Spanish version it is hardly surprising.

It's because you attention seekers can't keep your tongue in check when trying another language and everything comes out in a bigger mess than usual.
As for the poor, we already did this. You lived off your father until he went broke. After that, your 7/11 salary is your main income.
You are poor in every aspect of life.

So here you are, like everyday, seeking attention in an effort to forget.

    But it's true.

    You'll be here tomorrow again...

    We ARE your life.

Your mood depends on how we sleep.

    Everyday..

    Really?

And where are you everyday Stevie?

At least I don't have a child I ignore while being on here.

Or worse ignore my partner. Is your family life really so vacuous that you need to spend so much time on here? You must have a woefully pathetic relationship with your wife and your little daughter to want to escape from them online for so long. Or aren't they around as much now? Bit of a Christmas bust up?

You spend so much of your time chasing people like me around fora.

And you'll be here tomorrow and the day after.

Because chasing people like me IS YOUR LIFE.

    I'm here, Anglolatino.

Where you want me to be.

    Attending your thirst for attention.

    Every day.

    Every single day.

  • Anglotino

Well at least I get your attention. Unlike your daughter and your wife.

You are definitely where I want you to be. Unhinged, incoherent and ineffective. But unlike you, I don't need to be here everyday.

You're currently outposting me about 5 to 1 which I'm quite comfortable with. I guess I'm not escaping from an unhappy family life. I mean where else could you possible be?

Such a shame you are currently the last comment on so many articles and will now have to sit around waiting for someone to reply so you can post again. I counted at least 10. LOL

So be my guest and outpost me all weekend. Unlike you, I can easily leave and will.

See you on Tuesday. Happy Australia Day.

But you ARE here every single day.

    Seeking attention.

    From me.

    From us.

I'd never heard of this 'thermal factor' - guess that makes me 'uncivilized' lol. 35 degrees C is pretty much the average temperature this time of the year where I live and I'm perfectly comfortable with it, but add in high humidity ( rarely an issue here ) and that's another story...

    @5 Narine

Hyperbole aside, I agree with you. The sight of players passing out and even hallucinating is an unedifying one. The Heat Policy though, was conceived in conjunction with the A.T.P. so they bear equal responsibility for the consequences IMHO.

Heat waves with electricity outages for weeks on end
    oil shortages
    running out of international currency
    settling defaulted debt
    internet restrictions
    lifting the U$ restrictions
    cutting taxes
    restricting imports
    decreasing trade surpluses
    strikes from police
    price controls
    food shortages
    skyrocketing inflation
    massive currency devaluation
    increasing crimes
pickets, protests and riots....where does it it? They have absolutely no clue what they are doing. They are so far over their heads I am not surprised they do not pack their bags and escape before the lynch mobs start.

    24. As long as you stay away from downtown it will be fine. I used to stay at Hotel Del Casco in San Isidro when i was just visiting friends. It is lovely and secure. Bring U$ and negotiate at the table, taxi, store. Your wife's family must be besides themselves. I've been on chat with friends asking me to find them a job here. They're tired and scared.

I stay in Recoleta and it's not too bad they. Fortunately I do not need a hotel....only if I leave the area and may be going down south for 4 or 5 days.....to the glaciers.
I've never taken dollars with me....however I may this time. The last time they were getting reluctant to take cards....you would get a good discount for cash.
They family is just really pissed how these .....mmmm.....I can't recall the word they used......something akin to a brainless asshole, pissed how they actually made the country far worse off then it was.

Stevie I am not getting into a dick measuring contest over the term “American”, because you very well now I am using the term in the contestual sense of a country while you use it on the sense of continent......apples and oranges. Argentina are Argentines , Brazil as Brazilians, England as the English, Russia as Russians, Chian as Chinese, United States of America are Americans and the world refers to me as an American and you as an Argentine.
Have you lost electricity there yet? On two summer visits I've lost electricity........it sucks. Maybe the new acting president of Argentina will start to encourage the electric companies to invest in the electrical infrastructure via tax credits......now that asslips is out of the picture.
