Is Spain in this club? Is that why Barcelona FC just paid 13.5 million euros to the Government, do you think they got caught out?

On the subject of football, I see Gibraltar drew spain in Euro 2016 qualifying but then UEFA changed the groups to avoid the issue.

They still ended up with a nice group though, Germany, Eire, Scotland

And Gibraltar cuts more ground away from under Spains feet.

They won't be able to use the old 'tax haven'/ 'dodgy dealings' excuse any more, will they?

And in the meantime, Gibraltar goes from strength to strength, and the Spanish government continues to flounder under it's own inability to solve Spains actual problems.

“ The move is part of the Government of Gibraltar’s policy of ensuring Gibraltar is recognized as being at the forefront of the international clampdown on tax dodgers.”

#4: Please provide an example of where Gibraltar does not comply.

    For example, compare:
    - Gibraltar: number of current EU tax law violations - 0
    - Spain: number of current EU tax law violations - 16

Question: “Can the Commission state whether it has ever received a well-founded complaint regarding an alleged failure by the Government of Gibraltar to provide or exchange information or failure to collaborate generally on tax, financial services or money laundering matters?”

Response from EU Commissioner Mr Barnier : “To date the Commission has not received complaints meeting the description given by the Honourable Member,”

But - you carry on believing the propaganda if it makes you happy. Keep wearing the tinfoil hat.

#8: The second link you provide is irrelevant as thepage is 7 years old and many things have changed since then. Besides - it just mentions Gibraltar without giving any reason for its inclusion - what kind of list is that?

As to the Ethical Consumer List: on the 2013 FSI list, Gibraltar's score drops from 174 to 147; just below Ireland and New Zealand, and just ahead of Spain. This is partly due to its very minor role in offshoring of corporations - but then, wouldn't you complain if its role was not 'very minor'?

As to the questions where it is marked as failing: 3 (on which Spain also fails) are being addressed now and will be in place this year; and a further one is addressed in this article (the TIEAs).

On which subject: if Spain wants to improve Gibraltar's tax transparency, why has it launched a campaign to prevent other nations from signing these agreements with Gibraltar?

Spain's usual complaint is that Gibraltar doesn't provide tax details [provided to all other EU states, by the way]. But then, Spain refuses to ask for them because to do so would 'recognise Gibraltar'.

How can you refuse to ask for something then complain that it isn't provided?

UEFA changed the groups to avoid the issue

this is nothing but political interference and a disgrace,

what happens if both just bloody managed to reach the final,

will they have one team in Spain , and the other in , say , France Germany or Italy playing against the clock,

football is a sport and should remain that way, and if these two were drawed together, then tough,

both should play where told,,, and if one refused, then that team should be disqualified,

this change may now ruin foot ball, as other teams in the future who are betted against someone they don't get on with will now get it changed????????

leave politics out of the game, before the game collapses.

Are you for real ? You always seem to be clasping at straws and the further you meander into a subject the more you deviate from the item being discussed and the more your desperation shews through. (shews, older English spelling !) I think 'Richter Scale' should be applied to your I.Q..

If you are going to ridicule someone......best get the idiom right.....
    Grasping at Straws.....
    even heard of..Clutching at Straws....
    never heard ...Clasping at Straws...

    Grasping...gives the impression of desperation....
Clasping or Clutching doesn't...that gives more an impression of possession..
The idiom was originally from the desperation of a drowning man...from a work by Thomas More in the 16th century....

...otherwise you leave yourself fair game to be ridiculed for your unfamiliarity of English idioms.....
    ...are you Johnny Foreigner...?

    #11: Tax haven?

OECD compliant and on the white list since 2010. The only major country with whom information is not exchanged is the one who refuses to ask for it.

    Smugglers paradise?

There is one centre of smuggling in Europe : we can see that measured. Smuggling is a crime, and criminal activities are paid for in cash.

Spain accounts for 10% of the Eurozone, but 30% of €500 banknotes. It is estimated that 25% of the Spanish economy is “black” and paid in cash - no taxes.

    http://www.ecb.europa.eu/pub/pdf/other/art2_mb201104en_pp79-90en.pdf

”In Spain more than one-third of interviewees said they never use an ATM, while the corresponding share in all other countries was somewhere between 4% (Netherlands) and 14% (Austria)”

    - So they're eitther broke (many are) or work illegally (again..)

“Spain accounts for 70% of the introduction of all drugs to Europe ” - more cash; more large banknotes.

And smuggling from Gibraltar? The only thing smuggled is tobacco. So let's look at that:

    - If all tobacco sold in Gibraltar were to end up in Spain, it would count for only 6% of the illegal tobacco in Spain
    - Last year, one truck at Algeciras contained more tobacco than had been found at the Gib/Spain border in 8 months
    - Spanish customs seized more tobacco at the Andorra/Spain border in one day than they did in the second half of last year at Gib
    - Tobacco smuggling from Spain to France is more than 20x higher than that from Gib to Spain
    - In recent months, six Guardia have been arrested at the Gib border for involvement in smuggling
    - The Guardia also actively encourage smuggling of tobacco. How? Most smuggling goes over the fences on the beaches. From the GC station at the border you can actually see people throwing bags across the fence but the GC do nothing to stop this.

The beaches are, however, patrolled by Gib police to stop smuggling. However, they can't do this when the GC create long queues for political reasons and the Gib police have to manage that.
