Actually, the best is the Hebridean Princess, but you have to be wealthy to cruise on this one.

#3 Hmmm.. Burning tyre receptions aren't the best. Trouble is Punta Arenas is a bit out of the way although its a very nice town with an interesting Patagonian Museum, replicas of Magellans ship and Shackletons converted lifeboat, and Puerto Williams is rather cut off without a pier. Perhaps the folks in Port Stanley should consider spending some of that £26m they have in the bank to become a bit more cruise friendly. There is plenty to see, Rockhopper colony, battlefields, minefields left by the invaders, memorials, graveyards and Stanley itself, a charming very British small town. There is a great opportunity to cash in on the vacuum created by BA and Ushuaia no-go zones and tell the true Falkland story to people of all nations. Perhaps it would be more effective than the current roving charm offensive?

It is not my idea of a vacation. Cruise ships put me in mind of floating prisons; passengers all packed in cells and herded around. That said, it is a booming industry. During the recession when other sectors of tourism were seeing a decline in bookings, the number of people taking cruises increased.
