It is not correct to state that Yanukovich was a close ally of Russia and President Putin. Ynukovich is a very corrupt and undecisive politician, and it is natural that President Putin had to deal with him as long as Yanukovich is a president, which he still is, as the terrorists and crooks in Kiev did not go through the proper processes to overthrow a president elected by Ukranians. But in event, president Putin had to deal with him, as another crook Timoshenko was dealt by President Putin when she led Ukraine. President Putin is an uncorruptible patriotic president unlike Obama, CFK, Hollande, Cameron, etc.

So Trolls, are you going to condemn this military buildup. Remember that Russian naval vessels carry nuclear weapons.
In 2008 the Russian battlecruiser Petr Velikiy held exercises with the Venezuelan Navy.
Petr Velikiy carries 20 P-700 Granit (SS-N-19 Shipwreck) anti-ship missiles, each with a yield of half a MEGATON.
So remind us who is deploying nuclear weapons to the South Atlantic?

#2 Putin is a sad little man who absurdly overcompensates for his inadequacies. He creates false threats of external enemies in order to “big” himself up to the Russian public. Putin the hero! Putin the Warrior! Putin the Vain! He has an overwhelming need to define himself as an opponent to the west. (He'd probably feel at home in certain Latin American countries) I think he'd love to turn the clock back to the old USSR if he could. Problem is he can't . The reality today is that Russia has the third largest military budget with only eighth largest economy and the outlook for the Russian economy don't look great. Russia is petro-economy in a world which is becoming more fuel efficient and is about to be swamped in cheap shale gas. In these circumstances the wise move for Russia would be to rapidly diversify their economy. The best way to do this would be to encourage foreign investment and partnership. Unfortunately Putin's fragile ego requires all foreigners to be seen as threats. So the consequence of this is a future where Russia becomes increasingly isolated and increasingly irrelevant. The true enemy to Russia and the true ally of Russia's enemies is Putin himself.

Brazil must advise Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua to not accept this INVASION.

Yeah that is funny yankee. Putin is insistent of a new USSR for some obscure reason. He also has 150k troops on standby near the Ukrainian. I think he's playing his streak a little too far and is going to get trumped.

You know, even during their glory days, the USSR could not keep a safe and adequate fleet of submariners. Going into a Typoon with like going into a group coffin.

@2 And you're a brainwashed tosspot. Putin is, of course, well known as a butcher. And I don't mean that he carves beef! He's KGB and therefore, by definition, a homicidal, genocidal, maniacal murderer.
@8 Man up. Do it yourself.
@13 For use by the Royal Navy and its friends. Wonder if we still have those nuclear mines and depth charges. Properly placed, we can probably blow the spanish “navy”, literally, out of the water, at the same time.
@14 Send? Ah yes. Could you calculate the effect of 14 100 kiloton MIRV warheads please? Please note that the START and SORT treaties have no effect on the UK. As a clue, the Hiroshima bomb has been estimated at 15 kilotons and the Nagasaki bomb at 21 kilotons.

@8, and then of course when the yanks takes *even* a diplomat initiative, what then will you do? Whine about US perenial interference in Latin America? I've heard this before all over the place. “Bring in the US they HAVE to do something?” and then wait salivating for them to inevitably do something wrong and then insist that the bull-in-the-china-shop should never have been there in the first place.

Putin doesn't have the money, he doesn't have the power and like everybody trusts the Russians....he will be lucky to keep his base in Crimea! Once all the shale gas becomes available he will have no hold over Ukraine. Ukraine will be protected by NATO and Russia is no match for NATO anymore....

Russia can´t afford to maintain real, effective and actionable military presence around the world. As usual, Putin´s only trying to play superpower, but they are not.
The US has real military presence all over the world, it´s real deterrent for China and other countries who wish they´ll have chance to invade smaller nations around them. The US can afford it because it has the economy, the industrial base, the global financial and commercial reach, and unlike China and Russia, the US has rich and powerful allies around the world like Japan, Australia, New Zeland, England and many others willing to provide logistical support to the US navy.

    15 Vestige:
It could actually happen remember how Cyprus is split in half with Turkey owning one half and the half we reside on now actually wanting us there, but it is UK sovereign territory.

The main reason for wanting to have a base there would be the exact same reason we refuse to give it up. All middle eastern fireoptic internet cables go through Cyprus. It's one of the biggest UK-US spying stations in the world.

I wonder if the US would decided to put it's own bases in South America?

Perhaps Chile, Peru or Guyana would invite them in. Also, having a base in the South Atlantic territories might be beneficial to them. The Falkland Islands Government might be willing to allow the US use of their deep water port, or even to build a base on some uninhabited place in the Falkland Islands.

I wonder how Argentina would respond to that? Or Russia?

I see the Trolls have failed to respond.

Remember its Russia that sent nuclear ARMED warships to the South Atlantic.
Petr Velikiy was joined by a 2nd Russian vessel an Udaloy II class Destroyer (the name of which I've forgotten)
but she too is Nuclear Armed.

And now it is Russia that wants to militarize the Caribbean and South Atlantic.

Oh and remind us who laid the thousands of landmines on the Falklands, but has failed to contribute to their removal.

The UK maintains a presence in the Caribbean consisting of a frigate plus support vessel that carries out humanitarian relief and anti drugs patrol in cooperation with the US Coastguard and commonwealth countries and other partners.

I am sure Russia could support a fleet triple the size in the Caribbean and South East Asia if it wanted to commit the tax dollars as long as it had ports to resupply and for shore leave. How much of a threat NATO would see in that and what they would actually do on tour I would have to say little on both accounts.

Certainly the narco economies it allies with in LatAm won't be keen on seeing it do drugs patrol. Anti piracy action off Horn of Africa and in some Eastern Island chains would be welcome though.

Last time I checked, Russia never INVADED Argentina.

    Britain did attack Argentina.

It seems therein lies your “non-intelligibis”.

Just like you keep a much larger troop presence in the Falklands now, because we attack you.

Why is it that you Brits fail to understand that we don't trust you, based on your past actions? Why does this principle only apply to you onto others?

Why don't YOU Argentinians understand why Britain does not trust you based on your fairly recent actions.
Thirty years ago for us as opposed to 140+ years ago for you.
Most of Argentina's population would have no relatives in Argentina at the period to which you are referring.
It makes as much sense as me saying, don't trust the Danes or Norwegians for their past actions.

You are spouting ancient history while Argentina's actions are within living memory for us.

Once you let the Russkis in, they will never leave.

let me tell you something, the real enemy and cowards nations are the NATO'S nations,28 countries afraid or Russian,
when soviet union fell, also fell the varsovia treaty but the cowards of nato are still alive,my question is why?
why the ROMAN EMPIRE,sorry, the iwas confused, because usa and nato believe themselves as the roman empire, why they did not attack SIRIA?
be realistic, russia is showing better yet, putin shows more power than nato and usa.
and I am happy that Russia build a military bases in latin America, any way in a nuclear war,all of us will be death.no more usa intervinning in any country,as usa did in grenada island, they went to ' help the civilian and they stole the island they kept it still and the invasion was almost 25 years ago,the usa as no moral to claim as never intervine on anothers countries that is B.S.
