The Falkland Islands will be celebrating the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen Victory Green in Stanley on Monday 21st April 2014. The parade will form up at Victory Green at 10.15 hours and the Acting Governor John Duncan will arrive at 10.30 hours.

The Parade will proceed along the usual lines, and will be followed by a march past at which the Acting Governor will take the Royal Salute. A joint detachment representing British Forces South Atlantic Islands and the Falkland Islands Defense Force will be on parade, supported by the combined Bands of the Lancashire Artillery, Duke of Lancaster’s and Royal Signals North. Also in attendance will be representatives of the Legislative Assembly, Falkland Islands Government and Youth Organizations. There will be a fly-past at approximately 10.45 hours. The release from Gilbert House points out that it is an important occasion and gives members of the public the opportunity to demonstrate their loyalty to the Crown and pay their respects to Her Majesty, whose presence is symbolized by the flying of the Royal Standard during part of the ceremony. Members of the public attending the parade are invited to observe it from points on Victory Green and should be in position by 10.15 hours. The particular areas will be indicated by the Police Officers on duty. It is appropriate for medals and decorations to be worn on this occasion. Falklands Memorial Way badge Allied Special Forces Memorial Fund will soon be offering a Commemorative Falklands Memorial Way badge for sale at £1 each. This is in order to help raise funds in support of the commemoration on June 14, 2014 at the Falklands Memorial Way, said Allied Special Forces Association Secretary Mike Colton. The commemorations which take place at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, “seem to increase in cost each year and we would like to encourage everyone to help our funds out in a small way. Possibly buy 10 badges and sell them on for more than a £1 each and the send balance to our account to help pay for the buffet or suchlike on the 14th,” said Mr Colton. Payment should be made to the Allied Special Forces Memorial Fund. Please contact Mike Colton on 07929- 18598 or mikecolton@hotmail.com for further details. (PN)
