    Shame they could have done the same gun fire salute on the Falklands, however Argentina would have called it Military Aggression.

    One step closer to Charlie taking the throne.

    ...and the interesting results which will follow.

    @3 I agree. How is it “a step”? His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales will accede to the throne when it is time. At her Cornoation, Her Majesty promised to devote the rest of her life to OUR country. She has done that. We ask her to go on and she does. As has been pointed out elsewhere, she is already older than Queen Victoria was when she died. I son't believe that Victoria was carrying out the same scale of public engagements either. OUR Queen is a truly amazing woman and person!

    Poor Vestige.

    He really does try at least.

    How old was the Queen Mother when she died? Her Majesty isn't going anywhere soon. You only have to look at how healthy and active she is for an 88 year old to see that she has plenty of time left.

    As for Charles. Vestige seems to forget the constitutional part of constitutional monarchy. There's no guarantee he will take the throne. Or by then will even want it. However saying that, what would be so bad about a King Charles?

    Actually Anglo, Prince Charles' 4 names are Charles, Philip, Arthur, George and I remember reading somewhere that he can choose any of those names as his regnal name and that he has stated that he would prefer to be known as George VII (after his grandfather) rather than Charles III.

    As for Vestige, to quote Captain Mainwaring “the boy's a fool”.

    Actually, he can use any name he wants other than John as there is an unwritten rule since the time of Magna Carta that there will never be another King John as he wasn't very popular! He's unlikely to choose Charles as Charles I was beheaded and Charles II was exiled most of the time. As Darragh states, George is favourite at the moment out of respect for his grandfather George VII.

    @6, 7, 8. The current suggestion is that His Royal Highness, Charles, Prince of Wales, blessings be upon him, may choose to reign as His Majesty George VII. Sounds good to me. His Majesty King George VII, King of England, Wales, Northern Ireland, British Overseas Territories and anywhere else that knows the meaning of the word loyalty. How wonderful is Canada? How treacherous is Australia? How nice that we made parts of Australia radioactive.

    This person is nothing other than a charlatan, literally.

    He has done more to damage the Monarchy than any rabid anti-Royalist could ever hope to achieve.

    His treatment of Diana was to say the very least the act of an utter cad and we don’t want one of those on the throne, we have had enough of them down through history.

    His letter to his mistress Old Horse Face (apologies to the horses) where he stated he wished he was one of her tampons brought the Monarchy into disrepute and made it a laughing stock the world over.

    And as for having Old Horse Face as our Queen, words just escape me.

    Had he have had the bollocks to ask Old Horse Face to marry him at the time they first met (as he stated he wanted to) that would have been a totally different matter.

    The ONLY thing I have ever seen him do correctly was when he and Prince Phillip put themselves on horseback between the raving looney who apparently had a gun and “fired” it towards the Queen on one of the Trooping of the Colour down the Mall. It was all downhill from there.

    Apparently the argies were to do this, when their plastic queen slips quietly away very soon,

    but a shortage of shells, and no working artillery means they would have had toys that shoots a little flag saying BANG BANG ...lol

    still,
    OUR Queen's 88th birthday on Monday
    the real thing gets better and better..
    British you cant make it up..

    @9 Conquerer

    The real treachery belongs to your MoD which used it's own as well as Australian and N.Z. troops as human guinea pigs after those H-Bomb tests. Three days prior to ANZAC day and you have to say something so childish and insensitive.

    @10 Chris

    I agree with what you say, but I note his mistakes are all human and he seems to have grown up in the last couple of decades. And my family was grateful to him for refusing to shake Idi Amin's hand at a CHOGM gathering. A small gesture, but it mattered.

    #9 Wonkyconqs- As a citizen of the UK I find your remarks insulting. You clearly do not mention the Scots, who, whether you like it or not, are entering into a deocratic process which understandbly (from your remark) could see them departing from you and your worthless ilk. Whether they do or not shall be a democratic decision without recourse to bombs or firebombing holiday homes. You should be thankful for that. As for Her Majesty, as fully half Scottish, I hope she remains our head of state regardless of the outcome. As someone who has indeed met her and knows her kindness, I hold her and all her subjects in high esteem. Bar you that is.
