Madeira? That's no where near Portugal and Bora Bora (“French Polynesia”) is even in the pacific! As for Bermuda, typical of the colonial pirates to occupy territory thousands of miles away from ingland.

The UN needs to hear about this.

But surely the mythical Sour Grapes islands in the sea of Never Never belonging to the glorious Argentine motherland, are the best Islands?

And what about some of the Argentine islands in the River Plate-aren't they in the top ten?

A Voice- Yes Great Britain is an Island - but here we are talking about SMALL tourist destination Islands - not those large ones with populations of many millions- get a brain please.

Let me just re-read the article again...nope it doesn't say small tourist destinations anywhere or a limit on population...in fact this is the description...
.....“what makes an island count as one of the best is based on his experience on the island; with the people, food, scenery, history and overall likability”

...so maybe it is you that needs to get a Brain.....
or perhaps you have an amazing ability to read things that are not there....a bit like Terry Hill...I think....

..you are not biased are you...by any chance...?

I say that what makes a news agency's comment section count as one of the best is based on the triplicitous humour & overall likability of posters like Mr. GeoffWard2 & Mr. A_Voice...

It is solely my opinion, based on my own personal experiences, mind you...

  • AzaUK

@7 i suggest you look at the source

-What makes an island count as one of the best is based on my experience on the island, with the people, food, scenery, history and overall likability. It is solely my opinion based on my own personal experiences.
-Countries i.e. sovereign nations can not be included as one entry on the list. For example, Sri Lanka cannot be included as it is a sovereign nation even though I would love to include it. Other examples of this are Australia, Cuba, Iceland, Malta, Cyprus, etc.
-Private islands do not count toward my list such as Necker Island, BVI or Sanctuary Caye, Belize.
-Specific islands within an archipelago nation can be counted. For example, while the Seychelles in and of itself cannot count, Praslin and La Digue, 2 specific islands of the Seychelles are included. Conversely, as the Maldives cannot be a stand alone addition on the list, specific islands of the Maldives could be included. The problem with the Maldives are no independent islands made the list as most are simply hotels and I cannot count them even though they are amazing. Fiji or Palau are other examples of a beautiful archipelago nation that I did not include any specific islands of on the list.

-Dependency archipelagos can be counted as one entry on the list. For example, The Galapagos, The Falklands and The Cook Islands are all multi-island dependencies of other nations and all are fantastic places to visit and I have counted them each as one specific entry as opposed to breaking them up. I have been consistent with the exception of French Polynesia.

“Falklands among the best 30 Islands in the world”

    according to...lee abbamonte??
    lol
and who is this abbamonte guy??

you people are pretty easy to be deceived.

now take a look to any of the recognised touring websites, for instance, trip advisor:
    best islands around the world:
    Ambergris Caye, Belize
    Providenciales, Turks and Caicos
    Bora Bora, French Polynesia
    Marco Island, Florida
    Lewis and Harris, Scotland
    Naxos, Greece
    Aitutaki, Cook Islands
    Nosy Be, Madagascar
    Easter Island, Chile
    Ko Tao, Thailand

    and the list goes on.

now, how can a pair of islets with penguins as its best attraction compete with naxos or bora bora?

    haha

“”I saw things on Sea Lion Island that I’ve never seen before and likely never will again.””
……................ says young Mr. Lee Abbamonte on his blog.
    http://www.leeabbamonte.com/travel-blog/sea-lion-island-falkland-islands.html

    Wooooow!
    What did he see?
BIIIIG WORDS for such a widely travelled young man!
What is it that “FASCINATED” our young Yankee friend so deeply in them windblown Malvinas Islands?

””What really made Sea Lion Island stand out to me were the giant ELEPHANT SEALS that hang out on the beaches.””…
and then he goes on... posting lots of pictures of them lardy ELEPHANT SEALS, a metal cross, some sleepy penguins, a couple of skuas eating a forgotten Pingo egg, a humble prefab lodge with a flagpole suffering a severe case of dwarfism and….. that was it.

Well…. Well….well…. Such a fuss for some ELEPHANT SEALS!

If this ”widely travelled young man” ever wants to see some more ELEPHANT SEALS hanging out on a beach he is welcome to visit “Mr. Think’s Top Secret American Elephant Seal Hideout” were one can watch thousands of them fat critters literally litter the beaches on a 24/7/365 basis…:

OK don't want to make the Malvinistas to feel bad so here's the top 5 islands listed by Lt. Worf of Starfleet:
    1) Gorglop island (Rigel 5)
    2) Krzynikkov island (Klingon home world)
    3) Never-Never land Island (Earth)
    4) Hak- hahge-meg island (Romulus)
    5 Malvinas Islands (Earth)

There, that should make them all feel better. They at least came in at number 5 on the intergalactic fantasy list.

    So technically an island,
Ok, a big one, but an island just the same,

That means technically, that makes north America an island,

This is what happens when people get technical,

AVoice - guess you understand know anyway why Britain could not feature on the list- same reason as Eire.
Think- well it depends on what the tourist s in that market are looking for- if its sunshine-warm seas and beaches and palmtrees - then NO - The Falklands will not feature well!
If the marketing is aimed at seabird and marine wildlife and the southern oceans and remote destinations off the neaten track - then Yes - the Falklands jump well up the list, along with Tierra del Fuego etc.

@19 I do understand your comments. I really do. But you must remember that northern elephant seals are protected and tend to inhabit inaccessible areas. Southern elephant seals form the “government” of argieland.
@23 Don't stretch too far. Have you written it down? The word “mind” cannot be used in relation to scots. The word “bear” should also be used with caution as it implies picking something up and carrying it. No scot would consider doing such a thing until their claim for Disability Living Allowance, and related benefits, has been approved.

Firstly…., I did some research and….. guess who paid for that Young Yank Professional Travel Blogger Mr. Lee Abbamonte’s trip to the Malvinas/Falklands?

Secondly…., the Big Sur coast of California, which I refer to in my comment No. (19) is anything but sunshine, warm seas and palm trees…. and it’s FULL of the same elephant seals that Young Yank Professional Travel Blogger Mr. Lee Abbamonte “seems” to be so fascinated about….

Thirdly…., Young Yank Professional Travel Blogger Mr. Lee Abbamonte’s “rules” for choosing his “favourite” spots are evidently heavily influenced by his sponsors & paying customers…
For example...: In his list over “The 30 Best Cities in the World” he says…:
”I preface my 30 best cities in the world with the following 2 rules:
    - They have to be major cities i.e. a city like Florence, Italy does not qualify.”
For immediately after placing, as his No. 10 favourite, an ugly American town, roughly the size of Florence, Italy….

    Ambergris Caye, Belize?
Good, but Caye Caulker is close by, just as good, and less expensive. Both are inside the second biggest barrier coral reef in the world and both are now 'tourist islands' - luckily not on the package holiday circuit.
Quite a lot of the islands on the list were deforested by the locals and have never re-covered.

Think- well sleuthed- but hardly surprising - where else where would he have been likely to have got all the money to visit all those Islands - other than from their tourist promotion departments? Normal practise - inviting specialists in their field to visit all expenses paifd - and then hope they say something nice later(there is no surety about that though!) I have no doubt Chubut Tourism Dept does similar?
The “special” of Sea Loin Is is that the wildlife is just a 100mtres from the Lodge - and some is almost underneath it penguin wise! Sheep Dung in the interior? - now you know that is not true as you lived hear! a bit deep around some shearing sheds in summer of course! In parts of the interior we have some damn good sea-trout sport fishing for a start, some first class beef now being raised commercially on good quality improved pastures, and good winter feed crops for livestock - no longer all just sheep ranges!

38 - Yes that is the attraction of Carcass - has hills so you can get out of the wind whatever direction is blowing - lovely place - my No 1 in fact. along with West Point

Good point, but we are not privy to the terms or amount, if any, of his sponsorship. At this point, it is pure speculation.

Does it not make sense also, that he is likely to have travelled to many many islands, before making a comparison, and as a self-funding travel blog, he would have approached each of them as well?

If his island ranking is consistent with his city or country ranking systems, as seen on his website, one cannot conclude there is favouritism.

In fact, he seems to be aware that his blog only has value to his readers and travel researchers if it is impartial.

Likewise, he makes it clear that his blog is merely an opinion piece - how much one traveller enjoyed his experience on one vs another.

We know where the “sheep dung” is. You are free to have your opinion also.

YOU two are Trolls. A_Voice is correct in his assessment. You actually believe you are NOT.

You used insults on me first.
you used sexuality as a weapon on me first.
    A Troll by any definition.

If you want to do this then fine. That opens things up for me to return the favour.
You're rapidly increasing agitation and anger (dare I say hatred) shows that my tactic worked on both of you and it is in fact you two who have had rings run around them. You can't see that? Or you do see it and you think by claiming victory it makes it so for you? That is childish to say the least.

just for the record, of course I have no more hatred/prejudices or intolerance than the next man. But to expose the two of you for what you are then first I use your same verbal violence against you. I can use whatever means necessary. Especially when It is used on me FIRST.

    “FIRST”.....remember that!
