Argentine jurisdiction? Surely that only extends to 200 miles from Argentina, or less where it meets the EEZ of a neighbouring state? If South Georgia was under Argentine jurisdiction then they should have maybe responded to the ICJ when we submitted the case.

Also, any self-respecting scientist should stay well clear of this kind of charade.

Sounds like the resources that they are looking for will be claimed by Argentina. Does Filmus not see how transparent this is ?? And which 'diplomats' was the presentation made to??

As for choosing any are which they have no sovereign rights to I suspect Gordo1 has it about right.

Can someone , anyone care to tell these fools, that you just cant keep on claiming land or territorial waters just because you want to, or it looks good,
no matter how you dress it up, its still stealing ,

by Christ man, she will be claiming sovereignty over the galaxy next, just because she can see it from the asylum window.

Relax, it will just be another failed attempt at claiming sovereignty over the Malvina's. The old hag is jumping up and down trying to make something happen, so her ministers are under a lot of pressure.
They will come out with some ridiculous claim that Argentina owns all the fish in the sea to keep her happy. She needs something to distract the masses here.

The map looks like somebody has thrown up on it.

A bit like the “presentation” of these two jokers.

I wonder if they mean the Argentine Diplomatic Corps? I bet they do, no other country outside of SA is going to fall for this crap.

So the circus has come to town. Big deal. This is just more hot air blowing nowhere. It will fall on its arse just like all the 'initiatives' from Buenos Aires.

Argentina is skint and the government corrupt. This is already still-born.

“effective presence in maritime spaces under Argentine jurisdiction”

Wrong on both counts, the minister in charge of trying to “recover” them, should know that he does not have a presence, jurisdiction or control over them. Or why is he trying to “recover” them.

Opiate for the masses this one.

However, an increase in the military deployment in theatre will be the only result of this, quite deliberate provocation and threat to violate British sovereignty.

If it is a confrontation on the high seas that they want, then they shall have it.

Those parts of the “blue pampas” are and always have been pink.

On entering the FASLKLANDS EEZ the Argentinian Survey ship was surprised when a British Nuclear Submarine surfaced and the Commander enquired “ Can I help you boys , you seem to be lost ” The Survey vessel turned around ( just like the Argie navy did in the FALKLANDS )and dissappeared over the horizon never to be seen again.

If any of these “Scientists” set up research facilities on British Sovereign Territory, there will be no pussy footing about as in the past.

They can expect a prompt visit from the RM followed by a quick demolition of their facilities.

Do argies understand that if two torpedoes can sink a cruiser, two bigger better torpedoes can put a “research” vessel into orbit? That the current British Spearfish torpedo operates at 80 knots? That a Maverick missile launched by an RAF Typhoon is accurate from 12 nautical miles. And hey, a Storm Shadow missile is good for 300 miles. Probably be best to plot the blank spots now!

    golfcronie, Conqueror:

Those Argentinian scientific vessels will be allowed to come and go as they please as this is international law. You would do well to know the difference between an EEZ and territorial waters. Even so the UK is not Argentina, scientific vessels are free to come and go as they please.

Argentina is deluded however if they think this will make even the slightest difference on the sovereignty debate.

    Great pic. Thank you.

As usual the Argentine Gov has no possible means of backing up such gradiose statements Equally UK public opinion remains resolutely steadfast in support of the Falkland Islanders decision to remain British.

So no change really. Just more hot air from air BA, but this does seem to be an ongoing policy. What are they hiding?

    “you lot”

    wtf?

what do mean by this? Not forgetting that you are European too Stevie? If that is what you meant?

I'm agog at this sweeping generalisation.

“The overall purpose is to strengthen effective presence in maritime spaces under Argentine jurisdiction with an Atlantic focus and for this the initiative will promote technological innovations applicable to the sustainable exploitation of natural resources and the development of industries linked to the sea, plus creating South Atlantic maritime conscience”, said Daniel Filmus,

I am also agog at “effective presence” as you great leader says... with what exactly? The government is corrupt and failing its own people and the Navy can't even limp out of port without going belly-up.

“effective presence” My arse has more presence in the South Atlantic and the last time I was in B.A. was about 13 years ago!

Long live the Argentines and may the KFC factor die along with Maduro!

My, they do like to beat around the bush, why don’t they have the courage to say what they mean? Which is we intend to try and:

    1. Establish an effective Argentine presence in the south Atlantic, especially around British territories which are really ours, aren’t they?
    2. Develop the means of exploiting the natural resources in these areas.
    3. Try and stir up some interest in the South Atlantic amoung Argentines (who don’t give stuff because they have more pressing concerns, like their personal security and where there next meal is coming from.)

You are about 200 years to late Filmus, but I guess you have to show your bosses that you are trying to justify your salary. Given that the Argentine government is broke and is facing a budget crisis; can Argentina afford a non-productive, political stunt like the Malvinas Affairs Office?

I did read in another article about this, talk of studying effects on the ecosystems of the islands of S. Georgia/Sandwich.

Certainly gave the impression of more than just scientific survey vessels in EEZs.

Looks very much like they will be attempting incursions into British territorial waters, as well as boots on the ground in British sovereign territory.

I doubt very much they will be asking permission in advance.

Last time they tried pulling this stunt, as I recall, it was neutralised by the simple expedient of granting them permission they hadn't asked for, which must have really pissed them off no end.

    Pugol H.

I was wondering the same about the boots on the ground.

Perhaps a repetition of South Thule and the South Georgia incidents?

What with all these declarations of support from around the world, perhaps they think they could pull these stunts again, a spectacular, without a reaction from the UK. A kind of regression back to pre 82.

They are not Icelandics and this is not about Cod!

The lack of firm response to their previous adventures, led in no small part to a war and the deaths of 255 of our servicemen and 3 islanders.

That is not going to allowed to happen again, never mind the UK government, the UK people will not allow it.

I they dare to land on BST and hold another flag raising stunt, they can expect a swift response, courtesy of the RM's.

That makes me remember that the last time three RAF voilated the argentine Air Space flying over Tierra del Fuego (without any permission) and were discovered (by civil personnel) the Argentine Government told the media that “They can do that, was a situation of life or die, they don't need our green-light”.

It seems that the two governments, Argentine and British, are playing “hide and seek” with it. They are two superb showing off that they are “muscle boys”.
