Qatari organizers of soccer's 2022 World Cup have vehemently denied accusations their successful bid was corrupt, saying its lawyers were looking into claims made by a British Sunday newspaper. Read full article
I seem to remember that Australia had, by far, the strongest proposal for the WCFs and the shock when Qatar won. No one thought it was anything else but that they had bought the finals. Qatar is a country with almost no history of football and a completely unsuitable climate but loads of money.
I hope they do vote again but I think the system is so rotten that nothing will change until Blatter is brought to account.
I was always of two minds about Australia hosting the Soccer World Cup.
I'm not sure if there would be any great benefit in Australia hosting it as well as the fact that it would disrupt our footy (AFL) season through the onerous conditions that FIFA demands.
However should Qatar's corrupt bid (and there is little doubt it was corrupt) be overturned then much of the infrastructure that is needed for the 2022 cup is already built.
The sad thing is that it will not be perceived as corruption but as the normal way to do business. Many European and American companies have had to pay large sums of money to advisors to facilitate business deals in Arab and African countries. This is just the reverse of the coin.
It is how business is done in these places.
Perish the thought of any impropriety here !
There is a perfectly acceptable reason(s) for all this money flying about:
1.) He won it all at Monte Carlo, and is generous to a fault.
2.) He found it on the back seat of his limousine in Las Vegas.
3.) He found it in a shopping bag, while waiting for the Swiss Poste bus.
4.) It was a new Platinum card, and he got a little carried away while traveling.
5.) He had been saving to attend the 2014 World Cup, but once he started buying new luggage, he just couldn't stop himself.
Anyone who thinks this lot at the top are in it for the love of the game are childishly naive.
They are in it for the money.
Now me, i would invite bids and draw them by lottery. With a stipulation that there can not be two consecutive bids.
After all it costs that much to stage, who is going to apply for it in succession, not many I think. Probably want a decade or two to recover the costs!

Equally both as true!
“confident that any objective enquiry will conclude we won the bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup fairly.”
Jun 02nd, 2014 - 01:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 0All we did was bribe some lowly officials, no corruption involved!
I don’t know what all the fuss is about. Ha, ha, ha.
The proverbial nine bob note comes to mind!
