Full article 41 comments

Those travelling to Brazil imagining they have arrived in England or those coming to Rio imagining to be in London “will undergo a frustrating experience” said Eduardo Paes, mayor of Rio do Janeiro, one of the cities to host the World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. Read full article

“However Paes, who does not belong to the ruling coalition headed by Dilma Rousseff's Workers Party has been repeatedly questioned from different quarters for alleged corruption and waste of public monies precisely in the infrastructure works for the World Cup.”

Nothing to look at here - “Bras-zero's” idol perhaps, just one more racist or ethnically prejudiced, loudmouth corrupt SA politician. No surprise.

We are not a country that hides it's poor? I think they would have a very difficult job trying to hide their poor as it is everywhere, not least their poor are likely to be rioting and making themselves heard loud and clear.

I think it is the turds floating in the sea that would bother me most.

Are you going to Brazil for the World Cup or Olympic Games? Here is a list of tourist essentials.
    1. Combat helmet. 2. Goggles. (Night vision as well). 3. Gas mask.
    4. Ballistic vest. 5. Magazine pouches. 6. Utility belt.
    7. Combat knife. 8. Bayonet. 9. Grenades.
    10. Automatic pistols. 11. Assault rifle. 12. Kneepads.
    13. Combat jacket and trousers with multiple pockets. 14. Steel-capped boots.
    15. Some sort of armoured vehicle. There are optional extras. Binoculars, plastic handcuffs, a LARGE torch that can double as a cosh, an extending lead-weighted baton, several cans of tear gas. How long are you going for? Go for two anti-personnel and two anti-vehicle land mines per day. You might find that anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles will come in handy. Remember that the “police” will “assist” you in that they will take you to their office before beating you senseless and stealing anything you have left!

Why ARE you going to Brazil?

Mercopress is from Singapore, South Korea or Hong Kong?

These three places today have a lot of anger in Brazil. Brazil is building an extremely large and solid naval and oil industry.

And do not buy their ships as does Mexico. And do not buy their drilling rigs as does Mexico. And do not buy their oil platforms as does Mexico.

60,000 jobs were lost in these three places.

The more we move away from the Western, the better for us.

Rio is showing up on a lot of lists lately as not worth the money to travel there. It is too expensive for what you get.
I went once and I doubt I'll ever go back
There are much nicer beach towns in the USA and you don't' have to worry about getting robbed on the beach, clubs, mugged on the streets etc etc etc

    @20 CaptainSilver

Thats 'funny' you should say that because I was almost knocked off my bike (midday on the main highway) with a brick as I was riding out of Mendoza on the very begining of what was supposed to be a great cycle touring adventure up to Bolivia. That was 4 years ago. And the police havent been able to stop it. I wonder how frequent and violent the attacks on other cyclists have been... Pure luck that the brick aimed at my head just missed and that I was able to get away but brought an end to my adventure as after that I just didnt feel safe cycling through Argentina.

The truth is as soon as you leave the towns and cities in Argentina you're in 'Frontier' land. Without all those police check stops it would be out of control. I wouldn't go cross country without a handgun under the seat of my car. Lol imagine needing a police escort to leave even the worst of Britains cities.

You must be a poor man who came for sex tourism in Rio de Janeiro and was robbed by prostitute.

I can not deny .... you got what you deserved.

The English tourists are poor, sleeping in hostels, eat hot dogs, have rotten breath and have flatulence problems.

They should go to any beach in the United States.

Good to see you finally admit that there is a sex tourism problem in Brazil. If you could correct your economy the poor would not need it.

The right-wing parties were selling our companies, they delivered our natural heritage to foreigners. The social chaos reigned ...

    33 Nostril

    Troll, you are off-topic.

As per the Mayor, Brazil is indeed very different from the UK and London.

In response to EMPTY charges from you and other Trolls, we have posted numerous and varied links outlining the horrendous poverty, and violence of Brazil, and the despicable and widespread practice of selling your own children as sex slaves.

You have failed to respond responsibly. It's people like you who enable such vile, inhuman practices by ignoring them when they are staring you in the face.

YOU personally,Nostrils, are an amoral callous shit!

Since when do I have children? And since when would they be Brazilian?

I'm in Argentina, go ask the Brazilians in a Brazilian forum about your question.

So South Americans except Argentines sell their children to slavery, NorthAms and Euros mass shoot them dead.

In Argentina neither of those happen, except in very isolated cases. Proof of our superior morality.

Toby - the murder rate in Argentina (based on figures from a few years ago current figures are hard to come by for obvious reasons) is at least 4 times higher than the UK and interestingly southern european countries. And Argentina has 3 times as many police on the street.

“”“However, the crude admission of Mayor Paes was quickly left aside when he added that “I have not doubts that Brazil is better that England and Rio better than London”.”“”..........what a pathetic idiot, to try to correct one idiotic statement, he comes out with another, even worse.

Ilsen@23 - the Brazzo is really getting excited ! As I've said before, he is a transvestite, who probably gets a whiff of bad breath from his drunk clients as they are pumping away in his bum.
Brazzo@27, if you insist on writing yr crap here, at least get yr facts right...Let's see ::
    1) “Yes In the '90s all our wealth went to pay the United States and the Paris Club. There was a lot of corruption.”
You seem to forget it is expected that you pay foreign loans, and no one held a gun to the governments head, obliging them to ask for the loans...as to corruption, YES , plenty of it....by the “Brazilian” politicians.

2)“”The right-wing parties were selling our companies, they delivered our natural heritage to foreigners. The social chaos reigned ...“”
Right-wing parties ????? there are NONE in Brazil....the PSDB, which you are obviously referring to, is CENTER-LEFT ! And, the State-owned companies that were sold, were just focuses of corruption; Look at Petrobras ....best time ever for this Co. was when the majority of shares were privately owned...And as far as social chaos is concerned, it has NEVER been as bad as NOW, under the PT.

    3) “Thanks to God and the people of Brazil by Lula pay our debt, we bought our independence””.....
This is what I'm talking about...pure ignorance ! Sure Lula paid the foreign debt..about USD 250 billion....by converting it to internal, public debt....which tripled after this fantastic exercise in acounting...it just changed pockets - the Brazilian government still owes the money, just to different creditors.
But Brazzo, I don't expect you to understand this is - it is way above yr brain-grade.

    I jus love, (to laugh at), this particularly South American attitude of;

“and then those Bastards made us pay back our loans, thus enforcing poverty upon us”.

    For one final frickin time.

If you take a loan you are obliged to repay it.

This has been Common Law since humans invented Trade.

What part of this global understanding do they not get?

You took the loan. You pay back. End of.

Not interested if you fu ked in the meantime.

    Pay up!
