Economy minister Axel Kicillof said US courts haven't yet responded to Argentina's request this week for more time to negotiate a settlement with a small group of holdout creditors and warned the country could face a technical default next Monday if the sentence remains firm. Read full article

Griesa doesn't care about a UN letter and this is a private matter so neither does the US gov't
And nobody cares that Argentina didn't have a Plan B.
One would think they'd be smart enough to have thought this through over the last year while it was at SCOTUS.

    You can't fix stupid.

Well why don't you resign then as Economy minister then if we are going to defeault ?? After all nobody is (was) going to blame you for 10 years of disastrous economic policy, you arrived at the 40th minute of the second half by the will of the hormones of the drama Queen. Its her fault for placing and appointing an inexperienced marxist in your position, now do what is honourable and the dignified thing to do Axel instead of paying debt with further more debt and selling away our future even more. If you keep on as you are administering and worsening crisis that you didn't cause in the first place the history books will place all the faults on you.

Take my advice lad. Just resign if it is not already too late

Greisa will ignore the letter, they are not relevant to the case.

The US government might reply, just might. To the effect that in a democracy the Executive does not interfere with the judiciary, especially in matters of contract law!

since 12 years they don´t talk.
since 11 3/4 years they mock the creditors who didn´t take part in their expropriation.
since 1/4 year they say “we will talk”. now the time is over.
kicillof is nothing than a vassal of his master ck, but not an economic thinking expert. let him sweat.

The order has been made. Why is argieland faffing about? Get on and do what you've been ordered to do. Not showing a great deal of “good faith”!

It's an incredible stroke of luck for the Argentine govt. that this coincides with the World Cup- a quick check of online Argentine news sites shows that the WC is dominating all the 'most viewed' pages. But the WC is going to end, and sooner or later (sooner if Argentina is eliminated) attention is going to swing back to the national debt problem.

Sadly, for people who like to watch 'own goals' the Argentine Govt seems to be the team to follow.

    6. I was thinking the same thing. The circus is entertaining the masses while the country crumbles.
I hope they notice when high gov't officials go on extended “vacations” with their families and their stolen loot.

How can it be Griesa's fault Alex for Argentinas probable default? This has been 12 years in the making.

As per usual, it's all others fault other than those who have actually caused this problem for the population of Argentina. I hope the people lock you Alex and your Cristina's cronies and crooks away for a very, very long time!

    Argentinian default 1989
    Argentinian default 2001
    Argentinian default 2014

We have been foreshadowing the 12-year recurring mistakes of Argentina, who NEVER learns. Probably they had such a crisis in 1977/78, but they managed to chanalize focus on the invasion plans to Chile back then (Beagle Crisis).
They have been “lucky” to postpone it for a couple of months this time.

Their next default after monday, take it for granted: 2026.

    9.

He may be a useless arrogant prick that holds beliefs and ideas that are entirely out dated and already has a large list of failures as a minister, however one thing I do recognize about him is that he doesnt seem to be a crook like all the other ministers and cabinet members of CFK like De Vido, Etchegaray, Boudou, Capitanich, Recalde, Puricelli, Berni and so many others.
He doesnt have expensive tastes is patrimony doesnt show significant increases from year to year, he has a very modest country house in Uruguay, he doesnt dress properly, travels by ferry to Uruguay, etc.
I think he is one of the very few of the bunch that doesnt deserve to end up in Jail

Impossible to know now. He doesnt look like a crook at first glance so I wouldn't send him into jail just for being a marxist.
Of all the K economy ministers in thse 12 years from Lavagna to him, he seems to have been given the most power and decision making ability by the Nutter Queen.

The Dark Country has never had any intention of paying and are doing their usual trick of being the victim.

Nothing ever changes in that place and nothing ever will short of executing 15M Peronistas. Probably 15 or 20,000 of the top ones would frighten the bejebas out of the the rest of the cowards that form this cabal, never to be heard from again.

    @11, 13

Even if he is honest about his intentions, his slick spinning of the debt crisis could ultimately cost Argentina much more than a crooked politician stealing a few million $$.

Arrogance and incompetence can be dangerous and costly when it finds itself in power...

@2 K ministers can't resign until CFK kicks them out. That's how it works.

    @18

Of course they can resign, if they are cowards and have no dignity that is another matter.
One of the few cases that comes to mind is Beliz as Minister of Security and justice in the early Nestor Kirchner days and more recently Maria Eugenia Bielsa walked off on CFK last year after the Nutter Queen kicked out Rossi (who has always been loyal to her and her husband) as her FpV bannerman in Santa Fe in the PASO elections to the Defence ministery specially for Bielsa who had much better polling numbers than he had take the head of the ballot list name in Santa Fe. Bielsa denied her in Olivos and CFK half naked in her morning robes put up such a act and a rant that the media never dared to publish it.

They have just paid US$ 1b to the 92% default bond holders.

Jesus Christ, their paying them back an average of a quarter of what was invested and at the same time, painting themselves to appear as honourable debtors.

You really could not make this shit up, “Look at me, see! You can trust me to pay back SOME of the money I borrowed from you.”

Personally I am beginning to think that some of the people who invest in these bond issues, Argentine or others, are not playing with a full deck.

Yes, watching from a distance, there is immense entertainment value in seeing the Whacky Leadership huff and puff on the world stage.

They are good at spin though, I'll give them that. But I feel sorry for the people in that country who have to pay for all this in the end...
