“If Argentina’s ministers had met me, I might have put it this way. Defiant speeches have not helped the country move on from the 2001 default. A single honest discussion could relegate it to the past.”

As we have said so many times.

I am very surprised that he is meeting with them without the other side present.
That can't go on for much longer.
    And neither can this.

Dear Minister Kicillof, please stop this WAR against innocent holdouts!
We are human beings and not scapegoat of the politics!

FOLLOWING COULD BE THE SOLUTION TO END ARGENTINA'S NIGHTMARE DEFAULT

Under the review of Judge Griesa and Daniel Pollack, Argentina and the Holdouts come together, to end this HORROR-Default, with endless suffering for tens of thousand holdout creditors and their families worldwide.

    THE PROCESS COULD BE FOLLOWING:

The “RUFO” clause (Rights Upon Future Offers) expires as of December 2014. That means, that from 01/01/2015 Argentina can make a better offer to the Holdouts, than it made in 2005 and 2010.

Argentina and the holdouts make NOW A BINDING AGREEMENT with respect to the “time after” (end of the “Rights Upon Future Offers (RUFO) clause in December 2014), seizure risks and a technical Default would be immediately averted. Argentina could immediately return to the capital market and thus Argentina could refinance the payments to the holdouts, without using reserves.

IN PRACTICE THE NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN ARGENTINA AND THE HOLDOUTS COULD LOOK LIKE THIS:

Argentina enters into good-faith negotiations with the holdout creditors – all of them –via the offices of NML Capital. A firm deadline should be set to reach an agreement, say January 2, 2015, two days after the expiration date of the Rights Upon Future Offers clause.

HOW COULD BE THE CONDITIONS FOR THE REPAYMENT?

Argentina owes to today about 230% to the Holdouts (since 2002 Argentina has not repaid anything to the holdouts)

    - at the latest, on 02/01/2015 (end of RUFO clause) Argentina would repay in CASH 100% of the nominal value of the defaulted bonds, which became due before 2015.

    - For the accrued interest between 2002-2015 (until now about 130%), Argentina would emit new bonds with a maturity of 5-7 years.

I seem to be under a weird misapprehension here, I always thought that when you loan a bank or an institution some money and you have a contract, you dont then have to go into negotiations over 12 years just to try and get it back again. But this seems normal practice over there?

    Strange Argentinian concept maybe.

What is it with Kicillof? His profile says he's 42. His actions say he's about 14. So NML never lent a cent to argieland. So what? The individuals that bought the bonds did. Chances are that NML offered them a better deal than argieland would.

There's nothing wrong, unusual or illegal about buying or selling bonds. It happens all the time. The buyer takes over the rights of the original purchaser.

Kicillof may well be acting on the direct instructions of CFK. But it's beyond doubt that she is deranged and now desperately trying to avoid spending the rest of her life in jail. I doubt her “fashion sense” and unlimited spending of other people's money has extended to buying prison uniforms. Unless it was “uniforms” for a “hospitality” trusty.

CFK is OUT next year. Is Kicillof trying to drag things out until she can't “get” him anymore? What sort of cretin will take over?

All of the Argentine bonds were negotiable, to be sold and bought on the secondary market by anyone who wanted to. Large numbers of Argentine bonds were sold both before (at close to pari), and after the default (at around 25 cents/dollar).

At the end of the day though, if you are not negotiating and you are the one holding the money, there is no “pay-back”. They still won't see their money :)

I still believe that they will pay at last minute. The hedge funds are far too flexible offering to both accept bonds and more time for Argentina and so is the judge. They Ks are just preparing a epic tale to portrait Kicillof as a “fighter” that stands strong to the last minute, as it seems they have designated him as her successor and official candidate for the next elections. They will transform the defeat of having to pay and a disastrous management of the debt all these years into an epic victory story of them vs the vultures and Americans while on the other side they are pulling their pants down.

Singer will be paid UNLESS a full scale crisis is already inevitable and no money will flow in after they have arranged with the holdouts and they can use this as a scapegoat and a excuse that they were forced into default.

Here is a lesson to those of you whom still possess mortgages. When they are sold off, tell the new note holder that they in fact never lent you the money to buy your home. That being said, you are only going to pay them 25% of the original amount. That other 75% doesn't matter.....according to Argentines.

We don't have anything equivalent here in the USA. Even the most popular sporting events don't have that much national participation or interest.

The sporting events I have attended in the US tend to be family orientated and consuming copious amounts of food and drink to be the main focus. I also love that college level games get a lot of coverage and following. Surely the Super Bowl generates fanaticism?

    62. No the Super Bowl or the World Series (Baseball) is nothing like the hooting, hollering and carrying on that I see from the World Cup fans.
You don't see massive amounts of people gathering in parks to watch the games especially if their teams are not playing.

Plus life goes on the next day and in 2 days it is forgotten.

I am surprised you have American friends that care about WC. I grew up here and the only ones that seem interested are my friends from South/Central America. Did your friends grow up in the USA? Are they married to foreigners? Study abroad? There must be something that is drawing them because I know no one that cares. I don't think anyone even knew there was a game on yesterday. Well from what I have observed Baseball and American Football are just platforms for advertising with frequent mind numbing breaks. I am not surprised that there is little enthusuasm for a game of rounders and a poor excuse for a sort of Rugby. At least a proper football game isnt constantly interupted even if at WC level its only a bunch of millionaires kicking an inflated pigs bladder around a field.
I think it was Charkes I of England who encouraged the emerging sport of football on Sundays in the 17th Century to occupy the potentially revolutionary peasant class in the gap between church services on Sundays, their day off.
Seems to serve South American dictators today perfectly in the same fashion!

    67. Frankly the only more mind numbing sport than soccer is watching golf.

Games that end in ties, where losers canadvance will never be popular in the USA.

Harsh? Worse than enjoying the fact that children are starving, like Taxiboy does? Please get a perspective, would you?

Taxiboy is nothing but a hater. He thinks he's Milton Friedman because he has been somewhat able to predict - what everybody with a semi-functioning brain could predict - an Argentine economic breakdown.

However, due to his general hatred towards Argentina, he spews vitriol regarding ALL aspects of the Argentine culture, including football. This reveals a sad and unhappy character with a chip on his shoulder.

I don't hate Argentina. I loath the corrupt, inept leadership and the imbeciles that keep electing terrible consecutive governments while they watch what's left of a once beautiful country crumble before their eyes.

BTW I guess you, and many of your ilk on this board don't have a semi-functioning brain because I clearly remember long strings arguing with you that the crash was immanent and all of you denying it.

BTW I guess you' must use Taxiboy services because outside of Arg nobody knows what that terms means.

@68 I didn't make it clear, the majority were born in the US, as were their parents and grand -parents etc., but a few moved there to work. And some have roots in European countries a few generations back. I have friends from all adult age groups but football definitely seems more popular with the younger of them.

I agree that there are certain sports that just do not transfer well to T.V. I would add to golf, any car racing and polo. Polo is great to watch live but dire on T.V. And fishing. Seriously. Fishing on T.V.

@67 It used to be long-bow practise a couple of centuries before that. I guess football was more innocuous.

...are you sure you are a Yank.....?

From 1920 to 1973, the NFL had a total of 258 tied games. Only three seasons (1934, 1950, 1952) went without a tied game, while five seasons (1920, 1923, 1926, 1929, 1932) had at least ten ties. The most ties, 17, occurred in the 1920 season. Since 1974, there have only been 19 tied games, the most recent occurring in the 2013 season when the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings played to a 26–26 draw.

@46. What exactly has furniture to do with anything? What do you mean by “plastic”? How would you classify nylon, rayon and similar products?
@50. I don't think he can get into the “computer room”? Take a look at those “miserias”, where would you put a “computer room”? He's outside. One cable clipped to someone's telephone line and another clipped to someone else's power line.
@52. Really looking forward to Germany hammering argieland flat. We can expect to see major cheating and fouling by argies on the pitch. Who knows what those in the stands will get up to? I do hope the fencing is secure. And electrified. I expect most of Rio will be trashed. Heads up, Brazil, get the tanks out. APCs as well. You're going to need them all.
@53. Indeed they do. And should be very grateful that we tell the truth. Trouble is that only a tiny minority are listening and trying to change their behaviour. Still, argieland has wasted 203 years. Another couple of hundred years won't matter that much.
@58. I think you're missing it. The “track” he's talking about is a railway track. How would you rate argie railway tracks? Bent? Dangerous. Impending accident? Suicidal?
@61. I can understand how you see “popular” events. Baseball? - I wouldn't be bothered about rounders either. American football? - King Arthur's knights didn't wear that much armour. Try rugby. Ice hockey? American football on ice with sticks. What sports do you have that involve “skill”? Knocking little balls down rabbit holes doesn't count. You can't suggest sailing/yachting. That's down to the wind. Rodeo is down to the animal and clinging on for dear life. Basketball - netball for tall people.
@69. Please try to be intelligent. There is nothing in argieland worth even thinking about. Here on MercoPress we go through agonies trying to make argies understand what crap they are. 203 years and not a thing to be proud of!

For the first time in my life I watched a complete soccer game. So glad to see Brazil destroyed! Then I caught the Argentina game, hoping for their loss. Anyhow, I enjoyed that sporting event. I didn't miss a minute of that game and am starting to understand some of the strategies. As for Amercian football, I quit watching it years ago. While it was fun playing American football in my youth I wish that I had gotten into soccer. As more Americans get involved in this sport, I feel the better that our country will be for it. Unfortunately, since there are no time for commercials(too much excitement), soccer will probably never take off in the US.

    IMO
Netherlands loosed because they wasted too much time and the ball with those long passes searching for Van Persie and Robben who were surrounded by Argentine defenders. When they decided to organize and create from the midfield it was already too late. Penalties are 50% luck 50% phsicology.

“Are you more American because you served? That's just silly.”

It means I put my words to my actions that I believe in my country enough to protect it with my life. Conservatives love to exploit that in Americans.....so they never feel the need to serve, only put them who do into action.

A-hole is correct, he has given loads of personal information.

He is a very bitter Scot Nat with a Mel Gibson fetish.

That narrows it down...5 million Scots, 2.5 million are male, 2.0million adults...say 30% “Yes” voters...we are down to 600,000.

We also know A-hole has “muscles on top of muscles” and likes to threaten motorists who cut him up. So he is also a moron...let's say down to 60,000

He has also told us that once he found out that Conqueror was an old aged pensioner he had “sexual fantasies” about “finding him” and “teaching him a lesson”. So he is also clearly a perverted deviant.

At other times he has claimed fantasy homes in the US, racist views, and an unhealthy interest in tracking down strangers he meets on the Internet.

So, a rabid and racist Scot Nat who has sexual fantasies about men in skirts and OAPs, tells ridiculous and easily to disprove lies, and continually makes a complete moron of himself.

Is a-hole Alex Salmond....surely there can't be two of them.

And when that occurs it's good for others to bring us down to earth. So, I look forward to reading yankeeboy when his analysis's are illuminating.

As far as Gingoland goes, it is a great place to live in. My grandparents came here at the beginning of the last century and I believe worked hard for their families and helped make this a better country. And presently, when the US frees its illegals, our country will prosper exponentially.

Hey Captain, maybe the flair is like others as you say, maybe not. Anyhow, once 10 million illegals can use Obama Care the costs will go down for everyone. Once they are legalized and will have to be paid legitimate working rates, they will get more respect for their working efforts. So, when these people become equal (like Blacks, Irish, Germans, Jews, and others before them in this society) the US will prosper as it has with those other groups(exponentially). Maybe this is in wikipedia, maybe not.

As to where Gringolandia is, I have been known only as the Gringo to my friends, relatives, and business associates in Peru for over 30 years. I think that my sister-in-laws have no idea of what my real name is. Thusly, it is fitting for me to use that term as the designation for my country. As a sidelight, on my first visit to Peru there was this sign near the airport, ”Gringo don't go, but if you must call us (moving company).

IT'S NOT A PROBLEM OF MISSINFORMATION.
The argentine government has explained exhaustively our problem with the vultures in planty of opportunities, in fact, it has published articles in some of the most important financial newspapers of the world, beside, in the case of mercopress, it has publishes the posture of the argentine government in many opportunities, without signifficant omissions. It means that all those people, or unless most them who are interested in this question in the world, , have a good knowledge about the conflict that we have with those sons of a bitch (the vultures), so, if some of them agree on the posture of those cretins, it's not because of a matter of missinformation, it's because of a matter of ideological coincidences
I would be hypocrite if i said that i am not so worried about this problem, but there are two things that mitigate unless a litle the concerning i feel for it. Beyond it's well known that there will always be cretins who will continue to distort the posture of the country, we all know that the nation has always had a great politic will in order to solve this question, although some cretins preffer believing the contrary, objetive facts show that if the country didn't want to solve this problem, it would never made two debts restructrings, where the 92% of the defaulted debt could be restructurated.
If the vultures are callled like that in the world, is because actually, they don't negotiate, they just litigate in a corporate justice, in order to get a favourable rulling.
The second thing that mitigates a little my concerning, is to know that the government will solve this problem, but without prejudicing all the achievements that we could get in all these 11 years, cristina won't let those sons of a bitch ruin her legacy, although some of our sepoys wish it.

The last “how about you” should be read as “have you” to which the reply is no.

As an adjunct, I was at Prestwick airport yesterday to see the arrival of the NASA WB-57F . A secret squirrel aircraft festooned with radar bumps and satellite communications equipment. No idea what it was here for apart from an overnight stop and then off somewhere. The more the news worsens for him and the more people expose him as the most prolific user of multiple names and the biggest liar and deadbeat on MP the more he pretends to be deep in conversation with one of his sock puppets, seemingly oblivious to critics' posts. This is how he went when his Dover character passed the point of sustainability.

Has anybody heard any news from today's meeting yet?

    News this morning here:
“ Putin valoriza Argentina, mas é cauteloso quanto aos BRICS ”

    Translated:
“ Mr. Putin ” values “ Argentina as a friend, but says no to Argentina becoming a member of BRICS. ”

Mr. Putin was speaking from that bastion of freedom and democracy, Cuba. A special money fund also discussed for countries in need, but that does not include Argentina.

Very sad. Looks like annexation is not even an option now for Argentina.

    What are friends for ?

    @172

Wow! where to even start on this one?
OK, first of all; you are confusing facts with cynical propaganda. This case is not about the so-called vulture funds. It is about bonds that were issued AFTER the Argentine default in 2001. Argentina desperately needed $$ and had to sign off on a number of conditions in order to get someone to lend them the $$. This included specifically waiving off sovereign rights, agreeing to NY Court jurisdiction, and even pledging national assets as security for the loans. But then, after they got the $$, they turned around anyway and said “no we are not paying you back”, clearly violating the terms of the loan.

The fact that the so-called vulture funds bought the distressed bonds later from the original lender is irrelevant. the pledge of pay back is made to the bond holder, not to the original lender. That is how bond markets operate. Without a working bond market, dead-beat countries like yours could not borrow money on the international markets.

This why the US courts ultimately had to rule the way they did. They tried to find any cause for sovereign immunity but in this case those bonds were simply so clearly pledged to the full value by the Argentine government that the courts just could not let it slide.

This case is about an exceptionally irresponsible borrower whose behavior had to be stopped somewhere before they wreaked havoc on the international bond markets...

Thunko - thanks for your concern, the family and vehicles are all fine.

Airline tickets are hard to find though.
Already two airlines, Air Canada and Alitalia, have suspended their operations altogether in Venezuela, and more than a dozen have drastically reduced their number of flights. American Airlines, one of the airlines that flew the most between Venezuela and the United States, has cut down from 48 to 10 flights per week, and Delta Air Lines is the latest to have joined this group. On Tuesday, Delta said it wil decrease its flights to Venezuela to ONE per week.
    Maduro is reluctant to negotiate.
“The airline that leaves Venezuela in these circumstances won’t return to this country while we are on power,” the tosser stated during a press conference.
Maduro said that airlines don’t have any excuse to suspend their flights, and that Venezuelan officials will be the ones taking measures against the airlines if they don’t keep up with their regular flights. “We are a reliable payer,” said this genius of international trade.

According to the International Air Transport Association, the overall airline debt already surpasses US$4.2 billion, almost a fifth of the country’s international reserves.

He owes them money, but now threatens to 'take action' against them?
So, there you have it, another socialist paradise massively in debt which it won't pay...

About the same as the Nordic Retornados that used to be here until some brilliant person pointed out it was mathematically impossible to have so many on one small board.

Aren't Scots also Brits? And that isn't even the ratio I am talking about. The ratio of Scots/ All Posters, but consider, Scots that have some sort of connection to South America, Argentina or the Falklands and somehow found this tiny little site.
The USA is 100s of times larger than Scotland and from my count there're only 2-3 regular posters from here AND we both are connected to Argentina in some way.
See where I am going with this.
Same thing awhile back with the over abundance of Nordic Retornados.
Just a little too many to be believable
Then they all left at the same time
    and
were replace with very similarly thinking Scots.
But I am sure it is all coincidental.

The original title of this news-site was.
Mercopress The Falklands and South Atlantic News Agency.
As the Falklands is a BOT why wouldn't Brits visit the site...the question would be WTF has North Atlantic ...USA got to do with it....
So you will only get a few Yanks with connections to SA and that's it.
Any Brit that types a search on the Falklands will be led to Mercopress....so the number of Scots to the rest of the Brits will be 10%...Simple!!
    So...how many Brits visit here...?...let's say 50...?
Name the 5 that have claimed Scottish as a Nationality....

  • yankeeboy

Actually I just searched Falklands, BOT, British Overseas Territory through Google and Google News MP didn't come up on ANY of the 2st page of the searches.
So they'd have to be looking pretty hard to find this very small site. Then take the time to post...regularly.
Doesn't make a lot of sense.

We don't have 50 regular posters.
Falklanders would obviously be here, English speaking Rgs, Mainland British...not so much.
So the amount of Scots is extremely high..too high.

BTW what's your connection to either The Falklands or Argentina? You are anti-English and you more often than not side with the posters who are clearly pro-K.
So what is it? What brought you here?

Mercopress is also listed as a Falklands newspaper if you do a search on Falklands newspapers....

Who are you ? How do I know you are a bona fide American ?
So you set the criterion as to the permitted nationality of posters ?
“Voice”, whatever his opinions, lives in Scotland. I am 100% sure of that.
His nationality I do not know except he says he is not British.
    I am Scottish/British.
My parents, grand parents, great grandparents and as far back as records go were Scottish. We have been here so long that we even had our own boat at the flood !
I came on to the site when I heard that Argentina were starting trouble again. I am also interested in Gibraltar as my brother served with 224 Squadron RAF out there and my sister was a nursing Sister at St,Bernard's Hospital in the late 60's. She still has friends there.
I don't give a monkey's about Argentina except as it affects the British territories in the Falklands and sub-Antarctic islands.
As to “Think”, I have no idea and really don't care. He has his own agenda to snipe and belittle the Falklanders at every turn. Why he pretends to be “interested in Scotland is probably to try and cause dissent.
I know a couple of other posters say they are Scottish and they seem genuine to me.
SO........what is your point ? Name the ones that you think are Scottish or impersonating Scots. Maybe C### is actually Scottish and an ”agent provocateur”!
There is another possibility, one of the staff at MercoPress has a Scottish name. Maybe he is just throwing in wild cards to keep the pot stirring!

. It would make sense that there was 1 legitimate Scot on the board with ties to the Falklands or Argentina.
Any more is questionable as to their intentions and legitimacy.
OK, you are doubting the“Scots” on this forum. As I said in my last post, name the ones that are not Scottish but “pretend to be so”.
Insinuation is easy but “facts are chiels that winnae ding”

I am a legitimate Scot and have a birth certificate to prove it....my parents were married for 9 years before I arrived.

For God's sake, my countrymen fought and some died for the Falklands. Don't you think that is enough reason for me and other Scots to be interested in their future ? I understand you have some interest in Argentina but I would say that the Falklands are none of the USA's business.

I hear what you say BUT there are no Argentinean territories in the Falklands or the sub-Antarctic islands. As a first generation Argentinean immigrant, you have bought into the great Malvinas myth.
It would appear that we are on the Magic Roundabout again!
    Time for bed says Zebedee.

If you have a sense of humour then you must have Norwegian or Danish antecedents. According to some Danes I met if you are in Sweden, in a bar, and you see groups of people laughing , they will either be Danes or Norwegians. The po-faced ones will be the Swedes.

    1) As a 200'th generation subjugated Scot, you seem to have bought into the great Sassenach myth that anything they can grab belongs to them...

    2) Always remember to take anything one Scandinavian national says about another Scandinavian national with a pinch of salt...
If you “Think” the Sassenachs were unkind to you Scots at times..., you should read about how Scandinavians have abused and slaughtered each other for centuries on end...

Anyone remember me saying The SOY crop could in no way make up for the HUGE drop in other exports.
    Yeah it happened.
BTW it looks like SOY is making its way to a new low. Already under $450.
I wonder what's break even in Argentina?
    It's probably already under that.

    245 Thanks YB

Most of this thread has been ThinkVoices pantomime about himself, an anti-English Arg “implanted” in Scotland, talking about himself.

@240: ”1) I have indeed my own agenda...
... I'll snipe and belittle any Anglo Turnip that tries to justify the unjustifiable.... The Engrish colonisation of the Argentinean territories in Malvinas and the South-Atlantic Islands ...”

It's a sort of Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, then? It's just a shame that the Congregation consists largely of sock puppets, while the Defence of the Faith relies upon racism and misogyny rather than reason. It all seems rather un-Scandinavian, although I guess this can happen when the culture is transplanted out of its natural habitat into a colonial one.

It's YOU that has bought into your own myth that anything that Argentina can grab belongs to them. When you start talking about Scotland, you really do peddle a total load of crap ! You have NO idea what the people here think. As to subjugation by the English, I don't think that the English would agree with that - rather the reverse.
If you are not Scottish then you have no right to use the word Sassenach in a pejorative manner. It's the equivalent of non-blacks using the N word.

You keep dragging up ancient history as if it still applies today, as in the national obsession of your government about the Falklands.
How this pearl of the S.Atlantic was usurped by wicked colonialists about 200 years ago, (-your version, not mine) - while your country was raping and pillaging it's way down South. Yes, Argentina tried to usurp the Falklands but were shown off.

As to peoples being unkind to other peoples at times, this was the way of life for everyone back in the dark/middle ages. The stronger preyed on the weaker. Argentina is still living in it's colonial past by trying to do this with Falkland islanders.

It looks like CFK doesn't like her own methods of debating through newspapers being used against them.
Austral Elvis looked pretty out of his comfort zone trying to explain why they refuse to negotiate.
These silly fools think they're winning by losing.
    I hope they default.
I would love to see Rgs thrown out of their non-embassy property in the USA.
    or
The LNG being seized while its on its way from Montevideo to MDP.
That would be great because they have no excess capacity and buy only when they're desperate.
    August in perfect for that.
