Disclaimer & comment rulesOh what a surprise Juncker was voted in when there was just one candidate and it just happened to be him. European democracy at it's best.
Jul 16th, 2014 - 10:36 am - Link - Report abuse 0I can remember the Junkers 88 and that was not good news for Britain.
Jul 16th, 2014 - 11:36 am - Link - Report abuse 0Is this Juncker any better for us ?
this man, will either break or make the EU, and that if a promise,
Jul 16th, 2014 - 12:32 pm - Link - Report abuse 0if he fails, the EU will collapse,
if he wins- we will see the emergence of a united states of Europe,
[ only great Britain will not be part of it ]
Who is this bloke? I don't remember voting for him, or seeing his name on any ballot paper. ...
Jul 16th, 2014 - 12:32 pm - Link - Report abuse 0:-(
He is the head of the largest none sceptic EU group and the preferred candidate of Angela Merkel and that is it, that is the democracy we send £53 million to every single day of the week.
Jul 16th, 2014 - 03:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It's all going to come to an end very soon and it's going to be messy!
@5,
Jul 16th, 2014 - 03:15 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I do know really, it was a bit of sarcasm along the lines of the old footie chant, who are ya? who are ya? when the opposition sends out a new signing.
Was a tad more serious about the lack of democracy tho.......
the corrupt politicians keep stating [our position] at the top table, we have a say-they say,
Jul 16th, 2014 - 08:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0but when Cameron's appeal as a head of state was dismissed , as if no one cared or listened, was the day the EU proved, the only thing we have a the top table- is a glass of water..
and we paid for that..

Jul 16th, 2014 - 08:27 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Given the situation, as is, I would prefer we were in the tent, pissing out, as they say.
I think we should be more involved in running the show, rather than this half-arsed crap we have now. We should get in there and set up a two-tier system. All the Greeks, Romanians etc would have to prove they were economically viable etc. Spain/Italy would get demoted straight away etc.
Turn it to our advantage rather than this indecisive nonsense we currently put with.
Just a thought...
The Euro was doomed from the start because it put political objectives (obsessions?) ahead of economic realities. There is no evidence that the Brussels elites have learnt their lesson from the debacle of the Euro. Will Southern Europe suddenly become more efficient? Will Germany continue to pay the bill if it doesn't?
Jul 16th, 2014 - 08:44 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It would probably be best for the UK to keep the EU at arms length until it inevitably collapses. We should limit our relationship to the EU to one that is based on free trade and thats all. The EU does not serve the interests of the UK. We're the 3rd and soon to be the 2nd largest economy yet we have very little influence in how its run. We need to stop pretending we're just another little european country like Belgium when in reality our outlook is a lot more global and far less euro focussed.
@9
Jul 16th, 2014 - 09:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Well said, i'm sick of people viewing us as little islanders because we want shut of the bureaucratic nightmare the EU has become. We are global players and our outlook and connections are vast. We only every wanted a trade agreement in Europe, we never wanted them to govern us or legislate our laws, this has crept in over time and we are no longer in control of our country.
The fork in the road has arrived and it is well overdue, we need to leave.
Either fully in and completely running the show in conjunction with Germany, and a few other 'sensible' countries. Strict two-tier system based on economic performance. You don't contribute, you don't reap the rewards.
Jul 16th, 2014 - 09:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Or out, and do what @9 says. Only trade, no politics.
I am just sick of this wishy-washy stuff. In trying to have the best of both we end up with the worst, at cost. I am thoroughly sick of the expensive bureaucracy and bail-outs, and letting in random countries due to geographic proximity. Although that said, it is probably better than sacrificing them to Russia? hmm...
well, I think we should get out as fast as we can before we get sucked into the collapsed void,
Jul 17th, 2014 - 06:13 pm - Link - Report abuse 0sadley we brits all know to well what our stupid brainwashed politician are like,
they will do nothing until its to late, the government does more U-turns that a spindle top , they would leave us their right up to the very end, and then so,
What-Who-Where-When-Why-
don't blame me and walk away, and the working class and rest will suffer their incompetence.,
the main reason we will never have a say, is because of 3 very important obstacles,
1, Juncker- A euro fanatic and has a dream of a untied states of Europe based along the lines of a federalist Germany,
2, France, our friendly or un-friendly rivalry , and our history will not let us rule or have the biggest say,
3, Germany- the powerhouse, [enough said]
just my opinion,
