Tobi? Nostril?
It's no surprise that a lot of the strange diseases that have caused epidemics around the world, in recent years, originated in China. Seems that their concept of higiene is somewhat different to that of the 'west'......besides the fact that quality of most stuff they produce for export, is pretty crappy. They have become rich by selling their cheap shit to the world that no longer seems interested in good quality.

Jul 24th, 2014 - 07:04 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The last part of your comment is broadly what we used to say about Japan in the sixties. By the end of the seventies they had completely destroyed the U.S. television industry. By the nineties they had dominated the U.S., and many others', car industry(s). And I can tell you from personal experience that even though do produce plenty of cheap crap, the guitars and amplifiers they manufacture are at least as well made, and ten times cheaper, than the U.S., Japanese and European equivilants.
My Bose sound system seems pretty good and funnily enough it says...made in China on it...

@4 Heisenbergcontext....I am not saying that China wont eventually produce goods that might become famous for 'good' quality....maybe they will, but for the moment, they haven't convinced me. On the other hand, I'm quite prepared to accept your word about guitars etc, as I have no experience with musical instruments.
Jul 25th, 2014 - 11:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@5 Voice...good for you if you're satisfied with your sound system 'made in China', but I prefer stuff made in Japan. It's becoming harder and harder to find in stores nowadays, but for the last 40 years I've always looked for and bought Japanese made sound systems (Sony Akai, Pioneer), and speakers from the US and /or England, such as Altec-Lansing and/or Wharfdale) and I have NEVER ever had a problem with any of them, just changing them every now and again to take advantage of the latest breakthroughs in technology...

Jul 26th, 2014 - 10:24 am - Link - Report abuse 0Are you a Top Gear fan? Couple of years ago they did a segment on China. They showed some automobiles from before Deng Xai Ping opened up the economy. These particular machines looked like something from the 19th century. Now they're producing Rolls Royce and BMW knockoffs ( which shows us where their aspirations lie ).
Under the bonnet they've just got four pot wheezers of course, but the speed of the progress they've made is astonishing. I remember people generally, and car mags in particular used to be eternally scornful of Japanese auto 'innovation' - not without some justification - until Honda produced that V-Tec engine, which was an amazing technological breakthrough. Time will tell with the Chinese, but I think they know perfectly well how the west regards their products and are well motivated to change that perception. Like the Japanese - it's all about face.
P.s. Altec-Lansing and Warfdale - good gear, and well beyond my budget lol.

Jul 26th, 2014 - 11:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I wouldn't say I am a fan of Top Gear, or any other similar TV car programme, but I do appreciate watching when I stumble across them. By what you say I can see where the aspirations of some Chinese automakers are going , but I think they've still got a long way to go before they'll produce something equal to a Rolls Royce, or to even a BMW. But, if it's all about faultless engineering, design, quality and good workmanship, there's no reason why one day they shouldn't be able to make good cars if they go about it seriously.. Here in Brazil, the Mini-Cooper (made in England) has become very popular (for those who are willing to pay the ridiculously high taxes levied on imported cars), and there is also a Chinese knock-off on the market (Li-Fan brand , at about 1/3 of the price of the Cooper)..but you don’t see many of them, despite the cheaper price, as I think that anyone who has a bit of self-respect, is not going to drive around in a cheap imitation and try to fool themselves they’re driving the real McCoy.
But I agree, perhaps the Chinese can one day convince the consumers the same way the Japanese successfully did.
As for the sound equipment, my old man was a fanatic, always buying , and sometimes even assembling his own sound systems and/or building his speaker boxes, to have the latest and the best that audio reproduction could offer...I reckon that having listened to his sound equipment for years, I too became kind of critical.
I don't believe they'll reach their full potential while they are still a communist state. Problems like this article and the milk formula scandal are much less likely to occur when politicians are accountable to their electorate. And I can't see the ruling party giving up power voluntarily. It's going to be interesting to see what happens.
Jul 27th, 2014 - 05:00 am - Link - Report abuse 0@10, agree. Don't see China's ruling 'elite' handing over power to a democratically elected government any time soon...maybe in 50 years, when the people wake up to the fact that they have been sheeple for way too long......
