US Judge Thomas Griesa rejected on Tuesday Argentina’s request for a suspension ('stay') on the ruling that ordered Buenos Aires to pay 1.3 billion dollars plus interests to holdout speculative funds and instructed Argentina and holdouts to meet on Wednesday morning for a first face-to-face meeting. Disclaimer & comment rulesIt's sad to see the country brought to its knees by incompetent leaders. CFK & team know no other way than to bluster. Such a crude & unskilled bunch.
Jul 23rd, 2014 - 01:45 am - Link - Report abuse 0“We are confident this matter could be resolved quickly if Argentina would join us in settlement discussions,” NML said.
Jul 23rd, 2014 - 01:52 am - Link - Report abuse 0a bit like the falklands then.... easily solved by sitting all the parties down, but despite giving argentina every chance, they keep dreaming up reasons not to - and then complaining the world is against them.
hilarious...
except for those poor saps still suffering from the non-poayment.. all of whoma re apaprently vultures, even the old pensioners who got shafted by yet another mad Argentine government.
If it wasnt for the idiocy and war mongering madness of Blair and his pals, i'd even be able to safely take the piss,, sadly our Gov, and the anti-anglo current Yank leader makes that impossible... all our leaders are as daft as the Argies.
At least the Aegies haven't declared war against a sovereign state recently..oh, but i guess they did invade their totally peaceful neighbour just to divert attention from their home-grown issues.
Thank god the Falklands dont have WMDs (except for those nuclear penguin attack squads) otherwise Blair might have invaded them too!
odd that, politicians, who needs em eh?
Argentina: just pay up already.... it was only yesterday Thinko-matic was saying how filthy rich you were in cash... then again, *yesterday” their money was a lot more valuable than it is today.
hohoho
It should be noted that US Attorney Blackman, representing Argentina, stated in a previous videotape that he would NOT honor the ruling of the US Court willingly, thus defying the US Court jurisdiction and authority.
Jul 23rd, 2014 - 02:40 am - Link - Report abuse 0The Honourable US Judge Griesa is trying to actively move the Argentines off their backsides in order to settle after 12 years of stalling, before they default yet again.
In Argentina there is little respect for the rule of law; this attitude cannot be exported!
Jul 23rd, 2014 - 05:49 am - Link - Report abuse 0It shouldn't really be necessary to say 'judgments are judgments'; the fact that it is says all you need to know about the Argentine leadership.
Jul 23rd, 2014 - 05:57 am - Link - Report abuse 0Also, how do they know it isn't possible to settle this by the deadline until/unless they try; if they are getting close to a solution through negotiation and need a day or two of stay I'm sure that could be considered at that time; to want the stay up front suggests they are not serious about negotiating.
What makes Arg so arrogant? What is it that the nation has to be arrogant about? Steak? Tango? Or is it that owing to the genocide of its indigenous peoples coupled with a yellow fever epidemic which decimated its former negro slaves it currently consists of a population considerably more European than its So Am neighbors? (Bingo.)
Jul 23rd, 2014 - 09:51 am - Link - Report abuse 0I see that the black market value of the US $ against the Arg peso increased today to a point where it is now trading for more than 50% higher than the official price Kicillof's team has artificially pegged it. A harbinger of things to come. Soon the peso will devalue to how it was in recent past decades when good steak dinners in fine restaurants go for a buck.
Notwithstanding the diminishing value of the peso, the largest denomination note in circulation is still the 100 peso note ( $8) because the VP, Amado Boudou, has an ownership interest in the company that prints and sells the notes to the government (the more notes it sells the greater his profit). He is currently under indictment for corruption in acquiring that financial interest. His indictment while in office actually marks some improvement in the Arg judicial system; its former leaders incl Isabel Peron, De LaRua, Carlos Menem were not charged with corruption until they left office. CFK will join this group for the money they she (and el penguino) stole from the country she now so fervently defends as honorable. It would be laughable if it weren't for the misery the people of Arg will suffer because of the criminality of its elected leaders.
Blackman must be incompetent or lying when he claims the issues are too complex to resolve in time.
Jul 23rd, 2014 - 12:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Had his client, TMBOA, had ANY intention of paying it would have been solved by them paying exactly what the Judge directed.
But that is the problem, TMBOA will brook NO directions from anybody.
The Kidiots are like a broken record, we paid so we can't default over and over again.
Jul 23rd, 2014 - 12:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They are really clueless.
It must be an act because nobody can be that stupid and still have the ability to talk.
Griesa said an Argentine default would be “most unfortunate” because it would hurt 'real people' and urged Argentina to take “sensible steps”.
Jul 23rd, 2014 - 05:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0He seems wise and sensible.
He isn't going to change his mind. I feel sure he put a lot of thought into it before he made his decision.
Argentina can't influence him. That is what is so upsetting the K gangsters.

Jul 23rd, 2014 - 08:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Of course the attorneys for the holdout creditors did not arrive at 10am, because the hearing was scheduled to 11 am.
The Argentine defence didn't show up.
