I look forward to the time when Catalonia have their own team.

What's wrong with teams playing football that are not going to do well?

If every football competition in the world stopped teams competing because they were unlikely to win, they would be crap competitions.

Should Costa Rica have been banned from the World Cup because they were not rated?

Should Holland not have been allowed into the world cup because they were an 'ordinary' team not likely to do well?

Look at Brazil, supposedly the world leaders and apart from a few individuals in their team they were absolute shite in the world cup-lucky to get to the semi-final.

Gibraltar drew with a decent side last year.

What Spain are worried about is that even with all their millionaire stars, the thought of losing 1-0 to Gibraltar would end in moaning and wailing you have never seen before.

I played football for many years in teams that weren't going to get into a football league in a thousand years-in fact amateur teams, but ANY footballer enjoys his football-like Perez.

    You should try playing.

Argentina & Spain both should be subjected to diplomatic condemnation/sanctions by the UK/EU & Commonwealth as long as they continue to harass/Bully and blockade the Peaceful self governing freely elected over sees territory's that are the Falkland Islands & Gibraltar.

The ones mixing politics and sports is clearly UK. Because if Gib is a BRITISH overseas territory, this means it is british and can play football inside their british orbita. Nobody says Gib cant play football, play it in the Commonwealth, where british OT play and there is an inexisting participation for other real countries of europe (not british). Rules are rules.

Both countries are in debt up to their eyeballs, oddly Spain is supported by German and British billions (via the EU) and the Argies get a few million from Britain via our (over generous) foreign aid programme, but then someone has to feel sorry for them :)

On a related topic I see that Spain are introducing a new green/fast channel through their side of the border for cross frontier workers.

Some people in Gibraltar are whinging about it.
But what do they really expect, perhaps they're entirely unaware of the rocks history. They've made their political choices and should really just stop whinging.

again, the uk is the country that received billions of dollars in food and other products from argentina during ww2.
not to mention the 4000 soldiers and pilots.
and as always, the uk did not pay a cent of that debt.

No, they have the right to play in Europe, as do the Faroe Islands (=Danish), Scotland, England Wales and Northern Ireland (all British, but different countries-like Gibraltar is).

It is very easy to prove that the UK provides funding to the EU Aid budget. Some of which goes to Argentina. Therefore the Argentine people are constantly in debt to the British people, if not financially, maybe morally.
Is there any gratitude to be seen?
    Hmmm...
No manners, these people. Obviously a third class nation of grasping self entitled delusional fools.
But hey ho, Britain still provides additional private funds to help with English language lessons in schools.
Eventually the population will learn the truth about the wider world. Just might take a few more generations but eventually enlightenment will dawn, as it did in Europe two centuries ago.

I'm sure all the Spanish bloodied people would love Spain, they all have something in common, they owe a fortune to the rest of the world, poverty is second nature to them!

Ah, the brats, I mean the brats what a funny bunch you are . Let’s put a few things straight ,shall we?

1-The only reason the llanitos want to play football is for political reasons. It is typical “short “ man attitude ,trying to make as much noise as possible to be heard. They have no infrastructures, no professional teams or proper leagues………

2- Spain is a top nation in sports and particularly in football , regardless the poorly performing during the world cup , still European Champions and let me think who played the last Champions League final? Oh I remember now was it Real Madrid and Atletico de Madrid? Madrid ? where is that?

3-Yes, we have problem with the debt. Yes my country is a mess and what? UK is a bloody mess too! Every day , I see on the UK news things about the financial crush, Islamic problems, identity crisis, poverty ,child abuse ……….

4- They are more than 700,000 Brits leaving in Spain and 100,000 Spanish ( From the Iberian peninsula ) in UK. If we have such a crap country ,what the hell are you doing there? And before you start going on about migration, jobs and all that , let me tell you with my degree and my four languages (Spanish, English, German and Galician) was able to compete better than most of Brits my age at the time, 26. Stop moaning and blaming us and tell your kids to get on with studying, learning languages and be prepared to work hard anywhere.

I am also educated, so why mention it? You might (if what you say is true) be educated, but you speak like a twerp.

The British are not in the mess you might imagine, don't believe all you read in the newspapers.

Spain owes money, it's not a proper democracy, your politicians and royal family are steeped in corruption allegations, and you still wave your sat anti British attitude about as if it's a good thing...come the day when you can't borrow any more of our money (via the EU) and come the day when British tourists don't come, you'll feel the pinch then.

Personally I don't visit your country even though it's just a ten minute walk from where I live...BRITISH Gibraltar.

    @30 Spanish mole

1/-Gibraltarians play football because they like it. They play football knowing they are likely to get beaten by top teams such as Spain, but they are not playing because they expect to win.

I cannot understand Spain not wanting to play Gibraltar. Surely if you beat them by a huge margin (don't count on that-Gib drew one match against supposedly better opposition), then I would have thought that would please the Spanish?

My take on it is that you are scared they will draw or nick a 1-0 win, at which ,cue the crying Spaniards declaring their world has ended.

    2. There is no doubt that Spain is a top footballing nation.

But the world is not made of solely of teams that are likely to win the World Cup-i.e the Faroe Islands are not a top football nation.

I find it amusing that the area of Spain that wants to be independent hosts the great Barcelona-they have no problem with the existence of Gibraltar.
You are right to be proud of Real Madrid and Athletico Madrid, but Barcelona actually exists as well-how long will they be in Spain?

3.Britain is not in the best of financial shape. But despite this the UK is a NET contributor to the EU, whilst Spain IS NOT (beggings money from the EU), (no wonder Catalonia which does well financially wants to be rid of scrounging Spain.

Your idiots who pick on Gibraltar, are convincing more of is in the UK to vote out of the EU. You think that is funny, but when the UK leaves the EU, you are going to need to recruit another country that can afford to pay the EU £50,000,000 pounds a day, otherwise you will not have as much money to scrounge. Also your fishing boats make a lot of money from UK waters-that will be denied to you when the UK leaves the EU.

4.“They are more than 700,000 Brits leaving in Spain ”

How many of those are living in Catalonia? In which case they may not be living in Spain for much longer.

No schools ? In Gibraltar ? Do you EVER check your on your prejudices before you start ranting rubbish on this site. wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Gibraltar. Read it !

For degree studies the UK supplies this need. There is little difference between students continuing their studies away from home in Gib. than someone going from Lerwick to Cambridge. In fact it is probably quicker from Gib.

Tell me, how many ARGENTINE towns of a population of 30,000 or less have their own universities ?

Hospitals....none in Gib. ! I wonder what my sister was doing at St. Bernard's hospital in Gib. for 3 years. She seemed to think it was a good hospital. She had worked in Kenya, Iran and all the hospitals in Glasgow ending up as a tutor in the College of Nursing in Glasgow. I would take her word against the drivel you are posting here.

Again, how many proper hospitals have you in Argentina in your remoter areas with populations of 30,000 or less ?

You mean colleges of further education. If you call all your places of further education, universities then you have more than the whole of the UK...even someone as biased as you can see the fallacy of that.....or probably not.
The “BOT's” have access to further education in universities in the UK which are superior to almost anything found in Argentina.
By your twisted logic, Tristan da Cuhna, St.Helena, Pitcairn Islands etc should have their own universities ?
Does Argentina have a university or college in the land they are squatting on in ANTARCTICA. If not, why not ?

OK then, how many towns in Argentina with a population of 3000 have a proper university....NOT A COLLEGE !

I am amazed that with all these “universities” nothing of any use seems to come out of your country.
Do they have degrees in, self delusion, whining and bullying ? That seems to be the national trait.
