Argentine president Cristina Fernandez arrived Tuesday evening to Paraguay to begin early Wednesday an official visit which has been delayed several times. Besides the usual agenda discussions and accords signing with her peer Horacio Cartes, the visit will also have a strong symbolism since the Argentine president will be formally returning to Paraguay furniture and other belongings from one of the country's most revered leaders, Francisco Solano Lopez. How much does argieland owe Paraguay? Quadruple the price of electricity. And, if argieland won't pay, cut it off.

Returning stolen furniture? Is this restorative justice South American style, I love Latam politics it is pure comedy gold. Does Argentina actually own anything it hasn't stolen?

They're not returning any valuable antique furniture, I'll bet. If they are, it is on loan...they anticipate sitting on it in the future, anyway.

No I think that would be Britain:

    Wales? Check
    Scotland? Check
    Northern Ireland? Check
    any islands out there? Check
England itself? Check (stolen from the Normans)
The British museum? Check (is there one artifact there NOT stolen)

Tobi your anti UK stance is getting really old! At least returning stolen property along with the apology is something though.

For a self proclaimed genius you really are a wally !
England itself? Check (stolen from the Normans) ?????????????
Would you care to explain that statement.

The British museum? Check (is there one artifact there NOT stolen)
The answer in a word is yes.

You really have excelled yourself in foolishness this time.
For a start the Art collections were bought and paid for by beneficiaries and the State as were the books and documents in the library.

Yes, there are some contentious items there as there are in every major
    museum in the world.

You are a hateful little sod aren't you. You could not exist if you did not have something to hate. You remind me of the North Koreans. The rest of the world is Hell incarnate populated by demons who are planning the downfall of the purity of Argentina. Grow up, get a job and do something useful for your country instead of wallowing in self pity. Your condition is of your own making...face up to it like every other country has to.

As the War of the Triple Alliance was a deranged attempt by Solano Lopez to take land from his neighbours. The reason so many died was because he would not surrender or leave power and his subjects were too scared to depose him. It reveals a lot about Paraguay and South America that a murderous egotist whose vanity and stupidity nearly destroyed the country he ruled is described as a “national hero”.

How much does Paraguay owe to Argentina ? . Housing, work, food, free medical care, for more than ONE MILLION immigrants, now permanent residents in “Argieland”. One million, out of a total of seven million paraguayans You may also ask those who remain in Paraguay where did they cross to find food, roof, medical care, medicines (all free) on occasion of the very recent floods. They went to Clorinda, an Argentine city FACE TO FACE with Asunción, Paraguay´s Capital. Even hate (at least when not transpiring insanity) needs knowledge, Conqueror.

@8. You're hilarious. Where do you get this crap? Wales was conquered. Openly. Tell us how things were in 1282. Northern Ireland? This may be too complicated for you. Following the Norman Conquest, the Normans claimed sovereignty over Ireland. In the 20th century, the UK relinquished control of most of Ireland. Northern Ireland is composed of those who wished to remain part of the UK. Scotland? It's a country in a union. Islands? I can think of many islands that don't belong to Britain. But we'll bear it mind for future use. Do you understand “England”. It derives from Englaland and, before that, Angle Land. Somewhat before the Normans! Why do you have this overwhelming urge to display yourself as a brain-dead thicko. Piss off, dumbass. You've gone from being amusing to being pitiful. But I have no pity. Desperately casting about for someone to blame for your current situation? That rally at Luna Park is really funny. Hitler and Mussolini had similar “events”. How long before you have to get down on your knees 5 times a day and pray towards Kirchner? Won't it be funny when you stick her in a glass-sided coffin, as they do in the Kremlin, and she swells up and explodes. I think it's appropriate to take the piss out of anyone under the age of 12. Now you know what's coming. Want to change your identity again? See whether you can comprehend. You have nothing because you are nothing.

The more we get to know Nostrils, the less I like him.

By his own statements and admissions, we know he is hateful, lazy, self-centred, racist, misogynistic, and callously indifferent.

His country, and his future with it, may be going down the toilet, but never does anything to make it otherwise, or help his own situation.

Therefore, I have no sympathy for him.

His bleating and insulting is childish and tiring.

There is nothing likeable about this naive fool.

He makes ALL Argentinians look bad.

I have no respect for him.

Guys, go easy on Toby he is too stupid to be harmful.

He has been bottle fed Argentine propaganda since infancy, and given a hint of the “outside world” it has confused the bejesus out of him.

Firstly, he has been fed that Argentina is globally important, Argentina is great, Argentina is significant, and all the nasty foreigners are jealous and want to do Argentina down...which is why Argentina is not as successful as it might be.

The truth is less palatable, Argentina is insignificant, it has had one seriously corrupt and incompetent government after another, and is fundamentally dishonest in all it's international dealings.

Toby sees Mercopress as evidence of “the outside world”, where everything is Argentina centric...not realising that in “the outside world” Argentina is insignificant.

To his credit he understands the Falklands issue far better than many of his countrymen, and admits freely they aren't Argentine...for this and this alone it makes him less ridiculous than the likes of Dany Bugger or Jose Malvinero.

As many have pointed out, both the cause and the solution to Argentinas woes must come from Argentina...by accepting they are “nothing special” and finding a mature, dignified way of dealing with both it's Latam neighbours and the rest of the world.

Step 1, be able to love your country but also criticise your government...they are two wholly separate things

YOU 're too nice a guy.

Nostrils has to learn that it is not excusable to behave so badly towards others, no matter what they taught him.

It might take 20 years, but he has to come around to behaving appropriately to others.

As it is, he's just going to provoke a kick in the ribs or the gonads as he lies in the gutter of Default.

Since you are all so indignant right now, let me take advantage of this state of mind.

Do you all think these sort of statements are appropriate?

“Does Argentina actually own anything it hasn't stolen?”

This is the reason I responded as such @8. Why is it OK for YOU on the other side of the issue to foment and foist such inaccuracies, which you all know are false statements (”Argenina owns nothing not stolen.... ipso facto they have no right to anything).

Why is it OK for you to say that about my country but not OK for me to say the same back?

Please, lets see if I have any takers to this moral question.
