Chile is ready to act as a 'bridge' between Mercosur and the Alliance of the Pacific so that Latin American can have a greater presence in the world state, said Chilean Deputy foreign minister Edgardo Riveros during a conference in Sao Paulo at the Lula da Silva think-tank. Read full article

Riveros is full of it.
Yes more integration...... why hasn't that been tried before?

Perhaps we need another group? A bank perhaps:
CAF – Development Bank of Latin America
Bank of the South (BancoSur)
Caribbean Development Bank
Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)
Or perhaps more talk, how about another parliament:
Latin American Parliament
Mercosur Parliament
South American Parliament
Waaaaay too much talk and grand ideas. Get rid of the dead wood and stop creating new fora to integrate and just bloody integrate.
Mercosur is a dead weight and Pacific Alliance is dynamic. Trying to join the two will only slow down the Pacific Alliance. Perhaps Brazil should try and join a successful group instead of trying to pump life into the moribund one it is in already.
Poor Chile. Headed off in a different direction with responsible partners but now seeking to be a bridge over which the undemocratic and totalitarian mercosur can tramp. Seems like Bachelet was a mistake. Stuck with it now until the end of 2017. By which time argisur will have various means of undermining and wrecking yet another economy. Probably democracy as well.

The Brazil/Chile conference was organized by the think-tank from former president Lula da Silva ...

Kind of contadictory, knowing that Lula is notorious for having an aversion to thinking......unless it's to plan the scheme to steal his next billion...

Aug 27th, 2014 - 05:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0None of to the right is thrilled with Bachelet, but she was, and is, the best solution considering the Chilean right is fractured with no unified leadership.
The elections were a mess, the left were prepared to continue destroying our schools and they were all demanding completely unworkable conditions.
Well, they have their socialist now in power, and fortunately she's more pragmatic than most of her party. IF the UDI and the RN get their act together, we will be able to put our country back to continuing progress.

Yes, but actually no. Same ancestor about 3-4 generations ago.
The three world class hotels, that are beyond my vacation budget, are owned by Pedro Ibáñez Santa María. The Ibáñez Scott nephews and nieces were formerly the largest share holders of D&S, before selling out to Walmart.
Chile cant act as a bridge between the Pacific and Mercosur simply because of geographical barrier called the Andes.
Aug 27th, 2014 - 06:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@2 There can't be any more integration as long as there are ideological disagreements.
Aug 27th, 2014 - 10:00 pm - Link - Report abuse 0We have free market and free trade states, Brasil which is free market (for now) but protectionist, Argentina is anti free market and anti free trade, populist countries and Communist Venezuela.
South American integration is as much of a pipe dream as Korean reunification...
