Mercosur is a success, intra-trade has expanded at double the rate of world trade and despite all the bad press, the block is advancing on other fields such as social affairs and citizenship, according to Ivan Ramalho, Mercosur's High Representative, who is a former Brazilian deputy minister of trade and development issues. This guy is easily pleased if he thinks the commie confederation is worth 'saving'.

    If Ramalho thinks this is 'success' he fails to see the big picture;
the last 13 years could have been massively better,
with Brasil in particular being a significant world player in the global economy.

It's all hype for the masses. The mercosur “thing” is an unmitigated disaster. Not surprising with argieland involved. Let's look at “mercosur”. Common Market of the South. Except that it isn't because every “member” has its little caveats. What about the “political dimension”? Why does a trade organisation need a political dimension? Isn't “unasur” enough? Could it be because argieland wants as many bites at the cherry as it can get? What, exactly, did Paraguay's internal affairs have to do with a trade organisation? Oops, sorry, there's the “democratic” clause. Did Paraguay's internal affairs impinge on mercosur? No. But argieland wanted to show Paraguay where the power was. Who got bullied into agreeing? Weak-kneed, ass licking Mujica. Of course, Mujica's less relevant now. Cue Mad Urine, the bus driver. Followed by Morales, the immoral. And argieland got unasur to follow mercosur's lead. Tail wagging dog, anyone? Of course, democratic nations are excluded from unasur.

And look, social affairs and common citizenship. How to interfere in the affairs of every member country. Brazil is no longer a “force”. The “evil axis” is argieland-Venezuela. Both economic disaster areas. Both lie to and force the population. Both “interpret” and alter laws as it suits. Couldn't they have been honest enough to call it the nazi reich of the south? How are the “villas” and “favelas” distinguishable from prison camps?

The most important thing is that the EU should not legitimise these regimes by signing trade accords. Let them trade with China, Iran, North Korea and Russia. Aren't there sanctions on Iran, North Korea and Russia? Then we can hit two targets at the same time. Cripple latam and make argieland pay its debts. Make it obvious that Brazil is nothing. Lose Uruguay. Watch Venezuela implode. Start again with “proper” people!

Guyana boasts a remarkably rich ecology, but also has one of South America's poorest economies and is the only English-speaking country in South America.
British rule ended in 1966, when Guyana was given independence as a Commonwealth realm by the Guyana Independence Act 1966. Guyana remains a member of the British Commanwealth although Queen Elizabeath II is no longer the constitutional Head of State.

I wonder what Cristina's thoughts on this are?

Suriname, an impoverished Dutch-speaking nation, and Guyana have been engaged in a long-running territorial dispute over a potentially oil-rich offshore area. A UN tribunal settled the issue in 2007, redrawing the maritime border and giving both countries access to the basin.
Also, the demarcation of the Guyana-Venezuela border is disputed, with both countries claiming the mineral and timber-rich Essequibo region.

    More unhappy neighbours..,

What on earth can Venezuela, in its current state, bring to the Mercopress table? Soon you won't be able fly there, so many international airlines are pulling out due to unpaid debt to of over $4,5 billion.
Will the EU sign trade accords with a country being criticised and about to be sanctioned by the USA for its Human Rights infractions?

Muddy waters indeed, upon which MercoSur is barely afloat.

Guyana, Suriname and Cayenne are acronyms of our America. His slave metropolises only remembered to suck the wealth, and forgotten people!

Westerners are a crap that destroy everything they touch!

    Bras. #6
North East Brasil imported and bred many more slaves (millions) than the rest of these countries put together.
Even now the quilimbos offer preference to these ex-slave progenies.
Most of my Bahian friends have slave in their ancestry, as does my partner - a woman of immense life-long beauty, with a heady mix of Myan, Mandingo and Scottish.
I try not to destroy beauty or anything else simply by being a Westerner (I am living, atm, thousands of Km to the East of South America. Easterner?).
Slaves and their genes are absorbed into their South and Central American countries, though there are enclaves of pure white, in Brasil - mostly German.

Yes, it is finished. Six years of monitoring and now I am signed off for a natural life-span.
I have bionic bits and a new proximal aorta. Luckily the treatment affected none of my mind, memory or intellect ;-)
