There are two Mercosur, but only the ideological one prevails

The original Mercosur is over; it has been reduced to a political block with a three member board, Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela, according to Demetrio Magnoli a renowned Folha de Sao Paulo columnist who added that the 'political' Mercosur has helped the Alliance of the Pacific to advance. I have been saying a lot of this for years....
I am glad to see this Magnoli chap bringing all the strands together and explaining it clearly. It certainly shows why the EU could never get a deal done with this lot running the show at MercoSur.

What's wrong with hostility towards the US? That should be the norm in any nation's foreign policy with any ounce of self-respect.

I would agree in the topic of Mercosur that Argentina and Venezuela who have no interest in irrelevant relationships with tin-pot economies in Europe and tin-pot democracies like North America, should be allowed to determine their own course, as should Paraguay and Uruguay, even if the latter wish to become full-time slaves of the EU and USA.

Argentina does not need the EU or USA for absolutely anything whatsoever now, so it is under no obligation or with any interest in relations with them.

This journalist is known in Brazil for his statements senseless and directed in favor of his north-american boss. A journalist with no credit among economic agents. He just says what pleases CIA, FED, FBI and Wall Street.

    Try it again.

What can anyone expect from idiots who idolize people like Che Guevara or Castro?

How old are you, 12 at a guess, as you have no idea what makes the world go round.I sincerely hope that you get your wish as regards not wanting anything to do with the west. But it is the west that makes the world go round ,so I would hope that you will change your mind as you will going back to the stoneage era.

    @9

That's the point, the west doesn't run anything or anyone. The WEst is just as dependent on the non-West as the other way around. I think it's time to prove this. In fact it already has. Argentina has been very distant from the west for 14 years now, and things have not collapsed or ended overnight... otherwise that would have occurred circa 2003.

Are you important? Sure, if that makes your ego happy. But not indispensable.

#11 Everything in good time, but what is looking sure is that Argentina will collapse, it's to do with economic mismanagement. Argentinians should string their Government from the rafters for the predicament they have placed the people in.

The government cannot change the economy of Argentina. No one can change the economy of Argentina. Its just the way it is and full stop. You really have to ask yourself is it possible that not ONE government has gotten it right in Argentina when it comes to the economy in 70 years??

Or maybe, the decline is inevitable.

The analogy is calling doctor after doctor to cure an Alzheimer patient, and 20 doctors later and with the patient far worse than before, proclaiming the doctors were incompetent and stupid.

#13 The Argentine Government policies are moronic, Kirchner and her band of followers are so arrogant with their heads stuck up their arse that they have no real regard to Argentine people's long term benefit, they are in it for their egos. With proper economic management and a steadfastness to hold the course all Argentinian people would benefit instead of being pushed over the cliff as is becoming more and more apparent. What a disgrace they are, read... http://www.cnbc.com/id/101992874
If you want to continue on this analogy of this Alzheimers patient example then the patient needs to be left to die. Start again and leave the bullshit peronist principles out of it.

@2, 4, 11, 13. Do you actually believe anything you write? If you do I can assure you that you are into psychotic paranoia. In other words, you're a nutjob. Do you see Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain or the UK 'suffering' from their economic relationship with the USA or each other? You have no idea. You have no credibility. You are just ranting to try to cover up your untenable position. I can't wait to see argieland reduced to the Stone Age (not far to go). Perhaps Brazil will learn in time.

I think TTT is making a valid point. Since the British economic influence was eroded in Argentina by Peron 70 years ago the country has been in decline. Gradual at first but the birth of Peronism created a sickness in the culture that has failed to heal.

TTT accepts his hopeless future in many ways. By rejecting anything he will never have and desperately trying to disparage any successful society. It is interesting that he has moved from defending his country to resigned apathy. I guess even he has accepted the inevitable.

I am still pitching to visit in November for work purposes and it will be interesting to see how bad things really are compared to my last visit.

Marxism/Socialism/Communism intent is to slowly take away freedom and wealth. It has do be done slowly so people don't notice, little by little, year by year they sap the hope, wealth, intelligence of the people. Until all that is left is apathy and misery.
It is sad so many of the RG posters don't realize they can change this if they really wanted to.
    They don't and it won't

Magnoli's analysis has hit the nail on the head. Mercosur, ideological as it has become, is no use to anyone, except VZ and RGland. It's no longer about trade, it's just become a political forum whose objective is to try to implement this sick Bolivarianism in Latin America. The countries that want to get ahead had better get out while they can, otherwise it will only drag them down , until they reach the same level of backwardness as VZ & Cuba.
As to the “Brasileiro” @4, he flaunts his ignorance...once again. His only line of defence - silly and extremely weak - is to claim that Magnoli, a sociologist, and journalist, employed by 'O.E.S.P'., 'O Globo', and the 'Folha de S.P., works for American bosses... why is it the “Brasidiot” always accuses those that he doesn't agree with - even though he doesn't know why, unless it's because they exposed the inconvenient truth about the PT - of being in the service of the CIA etc ???
Does he really believe that ALL Brazilians are as blind, or as stupid as he is, and that they have the “obligation” to worship the brainless, 9-fingered toad and Dumboass ??

@5 Tik Tok, no matter how stupid the Brasileiro is, it's interesting to know his opinion, as it reflects the reality of the PT voter : ignorant, lower social class, little or no study, doesn't pay Income Tax, out to see what he can get for nothing, does not read serious newspapers - but uses them to wipe their butts - easily fooled by unscrupulous politicians, e.g., the PT...in other words, if they didn't have the right to a vote, they'd be totally irrelevant,
    @13 4nTrolley
“You really have to ask yourself is it possible that not ONE government has gotten it right in Argentina when it comes to the economy in 70 years??””
So you are admitting that up to 70 years ago, Argentina was viable...in other words, the shit all started with Mr. Juan Domingos Peron.....and carries on until this day, with CFK.

@19 Jack Bauer, what you wrote is the mirror of yourself. You can not write three words without than two words are profanity. This is typical of ignorant people with no principles.
Jack Bauer, your sense of democracy is more to Stalin than Roosevelt. If your desire to prevail your political antagonists would be dead or in concentration camps. Are you unable to convince by arguments and you use intimidation and arrogance as a form of persuasion. This is typical of poor-minded people where education, surely, was not enough to cement democratic values.

I am very afraid that people like you achieve their goals.

you are a disgrace to Brazil...how the hell your parents ever managed to produce something like you, is a mystery....but unfortunately, there is one born every minute. Lulla, Dilma, Genoino, Dirceu......are here to prove it.
Now , if you are a man, which I seriously doubt, tell me where in the above post I used profane words ?? C'mon, answer me you ignoramus ...
But one thing you've got right....If I could , I'd put you in a loony bin.

Brasileiro - So are you typical of a poor minded person yourself? Are you someone special, it's you who are a PT goon, stupid, indoctrinated, incompetent, uninformed and corrupted. This thinking is supporting the slow death of democracy. Seriously think about it. Brazilians deserve far better than the idiots you support.

And , as I said, he doesn't even have the balls to answer my question....d'you think maybe he didn't understand it ?? the same way that he no clue as to what a real democracy is.......what a sorry excuse for a human being !

Mercosur was dead since Lula and Kirchner got elected. I have no idea about Brazil but in Argentina free trade is evil and it will always be, despite whatever bones the Peronists will throw at the international markets the next decade.

You wrote “you can not write three words without than two words are profanity. This is typical of ignorant people with no principles”...
Still waiting for you to reply to my question (in #22)......or can't you face the inconvenient truth.....it is a known fact that those people who support the PT, have either :
    a) personal/political interest in their election because they expect to receive illicit gains by it....attention, bribes, public funds etc...
    b) because they are lower class, without much education, who are afraid of losing their handouts ...
    c) because they are either completely brainwashed or just plain stupid / gullible..
    d) all of the above.
By your rubbish posts, and inability to understand / analyze the Brazilian reality, I'd say you fit in to (b) and (c)...either way, you are totally expendable.
