Gibraltar Governor Sir James Dutton has publicly voiced strong support for the deployment of a larger British naval vessel to patrol Gibraltar’s territorial waters.

When Britain fi-i-irst, at heaven's command,
Aro-o-o-ose from out the a-a-a-zure main,
Arose, arose, arose from out the a-azure main,
This was the charter, the charter of the land,
And guardian a-a-angels sang this strain:
    Rule Britannia!
    Britannia rule the waves
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
    Rule Britannia!
    Britannia rule the waves.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
The nations, no-o-o-o-ot so blest as thee,
Must i-i-i-i-in their turn, to ty-y--yrants fall,
Must in their turn, to ty-y-rants fall,
While thou shalt flourish, shalt flourish great and free,
The dread and e-e-e-e-nvy of them all.
    Rule Britannia!
    Britannia rule the waves.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
    Rule Britannia!
    Britannia rule the waves.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
And now commonly rendered in alternate form:

When Britain fi-i-irst, at heaven's command,
Aro-o-o-o-ose from out the a-a-a-zure main,
Arose, arose from out the azure main,

    Rule Britannia!
    Britannia rule the waves
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
    Rule Britannia!
    Britannia rule the waves.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
Still more maje-e-estic shalt thou rise,
More dre-e-e-e-eadful from each foreign stroke,
More dreadful, dreadful from each foreign stroke,
Loud blast above us, loud blast that tears the skies
Serves but to ro-o-o-ot thy native oak.
    Rule Britannia!
    Britannia rule the waves.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
    Rule Britannia!
    Britannia rule the waves.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.

Rule, Britannia, Britannia rule the waves,
Britons, defending Gibralter are never, very, brave!

Even if it were a battleship bristling with guns and missiles, it would be useless if they aren't ever willing to fire any of them. A rowing boat crewed by a single seaman equipped with a revolver and prepared to use it would achieve more.

Oh dear another fool that will almost certainly embarrass the UK's position of not escalating disputes with economic partners and allies....
For goodness sake someone tell him to put a sock in it....

The British should have more ships and the navy should make more use of the base,

perhaps the Spanish think we will just sit their and do nothing whilst they just wander in and out of [ Spanish territory]
until that is, the navy stops them..

    @ 8 No Vestige of a brain

Spain uses the Eurofighter which Britain calls the Typhoon. Spain does not allow regular flights because they are broke and it costs a shit load to operate these things and their pilots are poorly trained as a result.

Do you really think Spain would risk one of these pilots causing a major problem for them such as hitting an aircraft on takeoff from Gib’s airport by flying anywhere near them, never mind at supersonic speeds?

You just don’t get it, do you? But of course it sounds good to you. Idiota.

He obviously does not believe is Spanish brothers, the aircraft did not enter the airspace, didn't he read the article?

Spain denied that it happened, good enough for me. I mean why try and bully someone if your not going to brag about it!

Bit ferkin different from mucking about on boats in the water, flying military fast jets through airspace used by commercial aircraft, one mistake, scores of people dead.

Even the Spanish would have a problem explaining that one away.

@2. Perhaps you could compare the average tonnage of spanish naval vessels that illegally enter BGTW with the 24 tonnes of the Royal Navy vessels? Perhaps you'd like to trot out and show the Navy how to 'deal' with something 66 times its size. Perhaps you'd like to stand on the prow yelling “Once more unto the breach”.

And yet the Royal Navy still goes out and does its best. Are you volunteering? When are you leaving for 'the front'?

Make no mistake, if called on, I would head for Gibraltar ready to take up arms. As I would also head for the Falkland Islands if necessary. I'm 65 years old. I can't run and leap on razor wire. Or even dig a foxhole or trench. But I can lie down and shoot. And what does it matter if an argie or a spaniard kills me? I will have died for my country. And a proper British soldier will be saved and kill more of the enemy!

@5 Shoot down all spanish fart overs. They aren't killing enough of their own. We should help.

@10. Perhaps it's time to bomb spain. There's a little naval harbour at Rota. Bet the yanks will be impressed when our weaponry is so good it misses their ships.

@15. “simple repeats of incident in article. Done once can be done again repeatedly”. Until the Rapier batteries arrive!

Perhaps the Spanish “overlooked” the need for the Hawks to travel in Spanish airspace from Gib to the NATO exercise area.

Given that they didn't know about their own planes flying close to Gib and encrouching on the civil aviation safety area it just confirms what we already know about the plonkers. Piss up and brewery just doesn't cover it.

Most of the countries you list are either in close military alliance with the UK or a close economic alliance with the UK or both. The main exception is Argentina who don't produce anything of value, has no foreign currency to buy anything off us and has shit military forces whose equipment is falling apart to the extent that we feel we can defend the Falkland Islands with 2,000 men vs Argentinas armed forces of 77,000.

    So your point is?

The lyrics should be updated to include the Falkland Islanders never being slaves to Argentina(in a more concise manner).

Are you surprised that Argentina hasn't got an anthem about ruling the waves when some of their ships in port prefer to slide under them than to stay afloat?

    @22
“and then they ask why the whole world hates them”

Why did Barrack Obama call the UK his closest ally after the Scottish referendum vote if the UK is hated?

US POLITICIANS HIGHLIGHT GIBRALTAR’S RIGHT TO SELF-DETERMINATION
Eight US congressmen have tabled a resolution calling for the House of Representatives to formally recognise Gibraltar’s right to self-determination.

The bi-partisan move highlights the wishes of the Gibraltarians and underscores the deep historical links between the Rock and the US, highlighting its strategic position for US military interests.

Resolution 738 acknowledges the fact that Gibraltar’s citizens have “freely and democratically” expressed their desire to remain British in two referenda.
    http://www.chronicle.gi/headlines_details.php?id=34654
An anonymous source in Washington told the newspaper that there had been ample lobbying over the Rock,
He said the US position on Gibraltar had so far been “informally supportive”.

“But we need only remember the situation President Reagan found himself in during the Falklands conflict, where he was made to choose between a staunch anti-communist neighbour and long-standing trans-Atlantic partner to see that these issues are never clear cut,” the source added.

“The Spanish, and their Latin allies, are aware of this and have been lobbying hard, as have the Gibraltarians.”

If they get the support then the Falklands wont be far behind,
This will upset CFK no end..

Most people who insult other people are insecure. They think that it will make them feel better if they put someone else down, or they insult the other person to take attention off of themselves. Sometimes people who are angry insult other people because they are not mature enough to think of a different way to handle their anger except to try to start a fight or to try to make the other person feel bad.
