Why on Earth did the article not mention Uruguay?

Thanks to unfair trade barriers imposed by Argentina, the trade between Chile and Argentina is only moderate. The Chilean investment to Argentina into the retail sector as well as some other areas such as mining and petroleum will be hit, but nothing serious.

The Financial Times explained why the economies are so different and not dependent upon each other: http://blogs.ft.com/beyond-brics/2014/01/24/chile-and-argentina-economic-worlds-apart/

    But the question remains,

Is it incompetence, arrogance, and greed in the Whacky Leadership that is driving their economy into the ground, or are they simply insanely delusional?

    7. Wow that's quite a jump for 1 day. If that happened in civilized countries we'd be really worried.
Based on the huge run up and there's really nothing to stop it I think we've almost seen the last of the 2 digit inflation.

Thanks for the excellent link to the conference at the Hudson I. which I recommend to all readers here.

At the end of the conference, a sole questioner highlights the problem of Argentina. They don't obey the rules in their country, but generally are able to comply in other countries when they travel.

Actually, the more I read, the bankruptcy of Argentina will be overall very positive for Chile. That's interesting. Not only cheaper goods, services and lower vacation costs, but a supply of skilled workers to join our economy. We've seen capital flight for some time, but even Argentine vintners are making investments here.

The motorbike thief who tried to steal a backpack from a Canadian tourist admitted he only wanted to steal because it was his sons birthday.
    Two questions
    1) Why did he not sell his motorbike as any decent person would.( probably steals nafta for his bike anyway )
    2) where are the police? he admitted it on a local tv station.
Only in Latam could you admit a felony and get away with it, no wonder Latam is so fucked up.

I don't think Griesa liked CFKs UN speech and it may have just cost them U$50K/day in penalties until they pay.

“threatens with damaging the strong social advances achieved during this last decade”

Can anyone tell me what some of these social advances might be specifically?

Did some good advances happen in Argentina? It wasn't “an advance” the article mentioned, it was “advances”. What were they? Did CFK do a few things right?

The article mentions “social advances” in Argentina. You mention “only so much”, but that is still something.

Can you name some of the few social advances that your president has managed to implement, despite your claims of vehement global hostility towards your country?

    @33 Bushpilot

Hi man how you doing, CFK got a lot of things right actually, to mention just a few I'll tell you that when she and her sweetheart got in office this country unemployment rate was an outrageous 30 percent. Today is no more than 9 at the worst. Also thousands upon thousands of companies and factories were closed and bankrupted, while today those companies are back on their feet again and thousands of new ones opened for business. I wouldn't say she is perfect, no-one is, but overall she did a great job. Do I think is time for a change? Yes. We need a fresh start. It's time for her to retire and let the new guys step in and handle the new scenario.
    Cheers.
