Step by step creating a recognisable international identity.

A slow process but Argentina has failed to realise how powerful it will be.

It took them until 1983 before they were British citizens? What were they before and how did they get about without a passport before?

One of us is misunderstanding this article Skip....

“The UK's decision to repatriate its passport process is one of the specific areas of concern for most of the UK's overseas territories and was one of the main items on the agenda at the Overseas Territories Heads of Government pre-Joint Ministerial Council Meeting held in Cayman last week. With the exception of the Falkland Islands, where the decision has been made for its citizens to adopt a British passport and abandon their own unique territory passport, all of the other leaders, including Cayman's own premier, are concerned about this issue.”

Surely there can't be many folk on the Falklands that have or want a BOT passport...
I thought they all accepted a British passport....
    An ambiguous article....

2- We had a Falkland Islands Passport which was in effect a British Passport but without the right of abode in the UK - unless your father was born there.
We were British Overseas Citizens stuck in a sort of half-way limbo.
After 1983 we got the same passport as everyone in UK gets - now we can have the words Falkland Islands added to it I understand.

No I don't think you do understand...

“Our understanding is that there is not an option to have ‘Falklands Islands’ included on the front cover of these passport books and this is no different to other Overseas Territories whose citizens opt to take up a full British UK/European Union passport,” said MLA Summers.

#1 “ Step by step creating a recognisable international identity.”

Yes, and they are substantive steps that will further advance the Falklands towards confident self- determination , not like the meaningless stunts perpetrated by Argentina that leaves them looking powerless and foolish.

Gibraltar is doing the same and Spain is too stupid to see it as well. Argentina is going to wake up with a new independent country on its doorstep one day.

Spain will wake up to it even sooner.

8- I,ll phone him and ask! If that is so then why the article? why tell us we cannot have something we knew we had not had-and were not bothered about anyway- for the last 30 years? Something is wrong in the article and headline as they contradict!

“Falkland Islands” on British Overseas Territory passport front cover“
it should say: british colony- 3rd class pleb.

”Gibraltar is the only exception and this is because of their geographical location and particular relationship with the EU.”
gibraltar will be expelled from the e.u. as soon as england leaves it.

@16 1000% better than having Argie land on it, who would want to be associated with a failed nation, you must feel so small and insignificant when you hand your Argie passport to border control, perish the thought!

Well, at least it will never say
    Argentine colony 4rth rate surfs…

    ,,,,,,,
Gibraltar will be expelled from the EU . as soon as England leaves it
1, England will never ever leave the unmighty EU= because England is not a member of the EU,
As for Gibraltar this would totally depend on what they want,
1, if they choose to stay, arrangements will be made
2, if they choose to go, arrangements will be made,
    Simple is it not…

In other words, the Falklands should build a monument to the Argentine military for eventuating their upgrade as full citizens.

I've always said that Argentina and especially CFK has done more to create a Falkland Island's identity and nation than anyone else.

rostrun 24# “ the Falklands should build a monument to the Argentine military ”

There is a monument to the Argentine military on the Falklands, it owes its existence to the aggression and sheer stupidity of Argentina and because the Islanders have generously put their feelings aside and allowed the remains of argentine soldiers a respectful final resting place.

You people need to wake up to yourselves and face reality!

This is about the BOTC passport, not the BC passport.

“Surely there can't be many folk on the Falklands that have or want a BOT passport...
I thought they all accepted a British passport....
    An ambiguous article....”

    Voice,

People who are citizens by birth on an OT are both BCs and BOTCS

What I understand is that non-Britons who naturalise as British on the basis of residence in an OT do so as BOTCs, not BCs, and afterwards can register, under the Home Secretary's discretion, as BCs, or if they move to the UK can register as BCs after five years residence there.

Yeah that makes sense, there would be a few from Chile that perhaps have a BOTC passport...and maybe they don't want to be a British Citizen....

29- you are cotrect, Mike Summers confirmed it- a misleading article, Voice, agree I don't know of any islanders who have one - you are limited in Int travel with one of those nowadays - most would have the full Br passport anyway.Yes those who have settled here of non Br origen and who now have qualified for full FI citizenship could have one as it would be UK and not FI that would have to agree to give them a full Br one as explained by 29.

    1) The Anglo squatters in Malvinas get a Full Monty British Passport without the “F” word on its cover...

    2) The 350+ toilet cleaning/drinks serving imported Chilean working force gets, at best, a Dinky Toy British Overseas Territories Passport (with the “F” word on its cover) that is as useful as this ...:
