Don't rely on the police to help you, I was mugged in broad daylight on Ave De Julio with a policeman not 15 feet from me and all he did was turn his back.

The worst threats come from the tax collectors, customs, police, taxi drivers, landlords, housekeepers, merchants and professional service providers trying to perpetrate fraud on the Gringo Amigos on an ongoing basis. Medialunas are overpriced even at no cost. And rotting roadkill is a cultural fraud. Who ever called BA the Paris of the south should be required to lick the sidewalks in Recoletta.

Well, many corporations are leaving Argentina as well, including one of the worlds most beloved companies.

In order to mislead the IMF, the famous “Big Mac” index was manipulated by the Argentine government which caused enormous losses to the McDonalds Corporation along with ridiculous employment obligations which has caused continuous losses for nearly the past decade.

BUENOS AIRES–USA Today 30Sep14 President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has said that her government was applying the “socialist Peronist formula: an abandoned company taken over by the working class,” in reference to last week’s occupation of restaurants belonging to the U.S. fast food giant, the McDonalds Corporation.

“It’s the government new policy. Any company that is abandoned will be taken over by the working class with the support of the revolutionary Peronist government. Let it be known,” Cristina Fernández de Kirchner said during a cabinet meeting aired Monday on state television channel.

The Argentinian government Saturday announced the “temporary” occupation of the McDonalds restaurants as well as the resumption of serving the public once “operational restrictions” are done away with.

The McDonalds Corporation reported Monday from its U.S. headquarters in Chicago that it had left Argentina due to measures imposed by Fernández's government, economic uncertainty, employment laws and supply interruptions

For almost three years it was forced to sell over two-thirds of its products at prices determined by the government which led to a huge increase in the costs of production and steady operational losses.

Watching the news on TV and there is a murder or robbery every minute. The country is out of control. And the criminals “rights” are protected. They don't give a rats ass about the victims. Sorry state of affairs. The motochorro who attempted to rob the Canadian tourist is still free because there is no evidence. Guess they are not aware that the video of him went viral all over the world. And....and he has become famous...appearing on TV talk shows. Incredible.

    4. Its because the Police are part of the crime. They probably called the thug and told them a tourist was walking by with something.

    Terrible place

My very first morning in Buenos Aires, way back when, I was reading the local newspaper to get a feel for the place. The main story was about catching a gang of mottochorros and that they were all police officers. The ring leader was the sergeant of the local station. I guess that was when they used to arrest them. Times have changed and now they let them go free and do the talk show rounds. Maybe they could turn it into a reality T.V. show?

@7 The Argentine President is interested. She bored the pants off everyone ranting about them for two hours yesterday. She cares a lot about the Americans.
    Try to keep up.

No surprise here. Argentina's further descent into chaos and lawlessness.

The only problem though, sooner or later enough people will start looking for someone to take on the criminals and reclaim the streets for “the ordinary citizens”. That's when the real descent into darkness begins...

Perhaps the robbers were looking for their own TV deal? They have probably filmed it and will post it on youtube. I think we can be sure the police won't prosecute anyone.

If the filthiness of the average US city wasn't deterrent enough, I think this should be the final nail.

US health system, the envy of... absolutely no one.

If I were any tourist from any country in the world, I would stay clear from the USA from aprox. 3000 km distance.

    They are DONE now.
