The Falkland Islands were one of the main sponsors for the second year in a row of the recently completed annual Bird Fair event at the Rutland Wildlife Reserve, which had a better than expected attendance, and according to the Falkland Islands Tourist Board “went off flawlessly”. I love how not only does Mercopress give this the same platform as global affairs, but also how the trolls are drawn like moths to a flame.
I will leave it to others to swat away the insects, I'm too busy laughing my arse off!

Can anyone translate the unthinking mad ramblings of poster number one.

What on earth does that drivel have to do with the the news story.

To people interested in wildlife birds are very exciting.

Just beacause you cannot be bothered pauly don't knock other peoples interests.

The health of the bird populations is a very good monitor of the general health of the environment.

Of course you would not know that Rutland Water is quite famous for its birdlife and is a popular tourist destination.

It doesn't matter if the oil never gets going, we are still a self sustaining community without it you morons.

I saw some Argentines in Stanley today wearing Argie hats, maybe i should round up some people and go find them, you know, like they do in Argentina LOL. You are a bunch of pathetic morons.

@14. Don't be too nasty. Maybe they are refugees. Are they allowed to wander around without a minder? Are they allowed in without a body and cavity search? Probably best to carry a walking stick. Are you aware of a swordstick? It's like a walking stick but, when you've forced it into a cavity, you can press a button and the sword blade shoots out. Perhaps all Islanders should have one. Here's a thought. Along both the stick and blade, you emboss 'A present from the Falkland Islands'. Should make a suitable 'impression'.

Thanks for that history lesson in post #1 Think.

Here's a couple of historical facts you left out:
June 2012 Official Argentine exchange rate: 4.49
    Dolar blue: ~6.00

Compounding inflation rate since then: Over 100%

Change in Falkland Islands sovereignty: nil.

Something's have changed a lot. Something's haven't changed at all.

As I was probably the only one here who actually visited the Bird Fair, I can confirm that it was a great success...for all participants including the Falklands who were in greater numbers than before.
The attendance over the three days was about 50,000.
I noted a large contingent from S.America and had a good talk with a Claudio Vidal from Punta Arenas who was manning the stall for wildlife holidays in Patagonia and the southern part of Chile. Argentina was represented and were selling holidays as were Chile,Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. I got a present of a light weight gilet at the Ecuador stand. Everyone seemed to be happy and enjoying the atmosphere. I would suggest some of the more miserable Argie. posters should take up wildlife watching...it may calm them down and get a proper perspective on life.

You would have had plenty of drink at the show. The Northumberland stand were giving out samples of locally brewed “real ales”. I had to sample them all and my wife, who doesn't like beer actually enjoyed one of them. We couldn't buy any because of licensing laws but were given the address of where they could be obtained. The Islay stand was like a pub ! They were handing out drams of all the Islay malts plus a superb gin that they were now distilling. Other national brews and food were available to sample , the best being from France, who laid on a buffet each day with food and wine from various regions.
If you had taken all the alcohol availablel, you could have flown back home like a bird .

Sounds like a good event and it sounds like anyone with some sense and a country that has birds as an attraction and a reason to visit (like the Falklands, Chile and Argentina) was there. I am also guessing that if tourist boards and inbound tour operators consider it worthwhile to go, it must be well attended by outbound tour operators. That is tour operators with the potential to send groups to see the birds.

The fact that Malvinistas on here can knock this just proves them to be bitter trolls.

OK I've given the Trolls long enough to remember what their great leader said...

Anyone else remember when the mad woman claimed the migration route of birds from Argentina to the Falklands was in some way an indicator of the sovereignty of the Falklands.

I guess smart people have informed here just how stupid this argument is, as I haven't heard her use it recently.

Are you serious? Did she really say that? She is obviously completely surrounded by people who cannot question/ correct anything she plans to say or does say. This is what happens when you refuse to do press doorsteps or give press conferences and take questions from the audience. That's why an Argentine kid at Harvard (I think it was Harvard) was so easily able to make a fool of her on a visit to the States when he asked her about the dollar clamp.

    - Question is...:
What level of self-sustainability are we taking about?
The level of (16)Mr. Watson ' s parents in the seventies?
Or the one of his grandparents during the fifties?
How long do you Think, will it take for them English educated lads & lasses from Malvinas to search for more prosperous horizons elsewhere?
There will, of course, be a rest group of die-hard vociferous Anglo hillbilles and rednecks on them islands, dressed in their traditional Union Jack suits, hoping for Mother England's protection...
With a little luck, the Engrish will, as they did with Chagos, declare them Islands a National Park...

It was her annaul rant to the UN Special Committee on Decolonisation:

    Full document here:

    http://www.staff.city.ac.uk/p.willetts/SAC/UN/CF14612E.HTM

    Extract here:

“But if we do not want to rely on history, we can speak of geography. How can it be claimed that this territory is integral to or part of British territory when it is 14,000 kilometres away? I live in Río Gallegos, Mr. Chairman, just over 700 kilometres from the Islas Malvinas. On the shores of the estuary of Río Gallegos one can see migratory birds coming from the Malvinas: cormorants and black-eyed terns which migrate and travel all the way to Ecuador. They do not reach London. They only reach as far as Ecuador. So not only are the Malvinas Argentine, but they form part of the South American continental shelf.”

As I said, she hasn't reapeated this baffling argument again, one can only guess because it makes her look even more nutty.
Yes one wonders how she would fare during a real press conference?
The Agressive questioning the British media would give her might just see her explode.

24 Think, I believe the level of sustainablity we would aim for would be that of th 1990's and 2000's, we are more than capable of relying on fishing and tourism, its more than enough for our small community. Funny that I, along with many people i went to college and university with still live here, some move away, some come back, doesn't really matter, the fact is there are enough high level, good salary jobs to get people to stay.

Also, we wouldn't need 'mother Englands' protection if you lot weren't so Imperialist about the Falklands.

I'm posting about them minor companies, which still are relevant to the Islands Oil Industry Operations, because most of the Anglos & Kelpers I interact with here at MercoPress, are shareholders of them aforementioned “Minor Companies”...
Besides... if you care to check the share prices of them “Key Players” (Premier and Noble) you will find out that their value has been almost halved since they got involved in the Malvinas Quagmire...

    (29) Young Watson
    I know... I know...
But they don't make'em like that any more!
And that's your biggest problem in them Islands, lad...

    (31) brianF.I
Maybe it has escaped your attention that we Argies aim at taking you back the level of sustainability you had in the Sixties...
No fishing, no tourism, no good jobs = A smaller community
    Don't get me wrong, though....
I do Think that you Kelpers would be an asset for Argentina in a kind of “Autonomous Malvinas Zone” of sorts...
But not as spearheads for the Engrish geopolitical ambitions in the South Atlantic and the Antarctic Continent...

    (32) Artillero 601
