Uruguay is less than four days away from Sunday 26 October general election with opinion polls unable to forecast a clear winner, and a strong possibility that the left wing coalition could lose its legislative majority enjoyed in the last ten years and even the Executive. Read full article

What exactly is wrong with Uruguay? Has it forgotten that it's supposed to be an independent country? Is it just gutless? Not a place one would want as an 'ally'. Barely makes it up to the level of 'alley'. Now bounded by TWO useless places. Might it not be best to seek the protection of the Falkland Islands? Fairly easy to arrange. Uruguay surrenders to Falkland Islands. Begs for protection. Discussion with London. Who agrees to take on a new British Overseas Territory. Uruguay finally has a chance!

So, Uruguay tempts your curiosity..? .”Not a place one would want as an 'ally'. Barely makes it up to the level of 'alley'. Mmm. It seems too much, and the option too little. A middle- of- the-road term would be 'strait'. As in 'straitjacket' (Middle English 'jaket') , a familiar vocable with you, I suppose. Anyway, your idea is not a sound one. Real uruguayan cipays belong to the rabble. The ostensible anglophilia of the rest nurtures only in fraternal quarrels with us. You may disregard many things in your comments, even ordinary decencies on occasions, but History claims to its rights: Montevideo was the first Spanish naval base (“Apostadero Naval”) of the River Plate during the Viceroyalty, and the Crown appointed it three main responsibilities : 1) To assist and defend Malvinas; 2) idem Southern Passages; 3)idem the River Plate. The City, on occasion of the couple of Civilizing and Charitable expeditions ungratefully known to us as English Invasions, fought so gallantly as to deserve the title of “LA MUY FIEL Y RECONQUISTADORA CIUDAD DE SAN FELIPE Y SANTIAGO DE MONTEVIDEO”, granted by the King.

Your support counts as much as mine: de nada. And unlike you, I live here .

Also unlike you I check things out and when the issues move away from me I look for the correct answer. IF I were able to vote for the president I would now choose POU.

People like you claim to be, in not changing their position DESPITE what new knowledge they find, are called ARGIES where I now come from, or Labour Mules with red rosettes nailed to their wooden heads in the UK.

    GO, GO, POU!

we have paid a lot of taxes in uruguay since my grandpa bought a house in portezuelo, back in the 50´s.
so i have a lot more rights to opine about uruguay´s politics than you.
and remember, they are our brothers.
the english are not even their 5th cousins.

Oh yeah, I know that area, we went to scout it out when we came to check on Uruguay.

The “fabulous Ocean Park” nearby (and I mean that sincerely folks, NOT) [any Brit remember him?].

What a dump as is Chihuanua, though it does have a nudist camp. Ah, that was why your granddad bought the shack! What are the Intendencia fees for the year? About UY$ 250 (U$D 10) I bet, if it’s any more you are being done. The ONLY thing that area has going for it is the beach, if you can get to it after the rains have washed the roads away.

I wonder, is that 50 YO flying death trap a legacy from your granddad? I bet he expects to see you in hell soon if that’s the case. I know you lot have the RCC as top priority in your Constitution, what a pity there’s no heaven, it means there’s no hell either.

And don’t forget that the British were the ones that made Argentina great, it was you old granddaddy that started the rot along with Peron and the Whore.

Ask yourself a simple question: if you are the brothers of the Uruguayo why do they all hate and detest you and think you are only good enough to gulp the cesspits? Could it be all the little curses TMBOA sends to us, or is it the undeserved aura of total smugness that all you argies give out to everybody you meet?

Your bitterness makes perfect sense if what you write is the truth, now do I believe it? Mmmm.

I bet you know the answer to that one, eh, POLLY?

    GO, GO, POU!
