The re-election of President Dilma Rousseff's in Brazil has exposed a deeply divided country with an overwhelming support for the incumbent in the impoverished northeast, where millions receive benefits from huge welfare programs the ruling Workers Party (PT) has rolled out over the past decade. Just like Scotland!

The northerners are just like the SNP, all me, me, me.

Dilma HAS to claim the country is united even when it is demonstrably the opposite.

All the PT has to do now is keep pouring the money into the north and the workers in the south will be forever in harness to the lazy bastards.

If the thieving PT were brought to account (imagine how much money has been siphoned into their pockets) and Government was made efficient/reformed (imagine the savings possible reducing ministries and getting rid of government chronies) then these savings would allow the north east to continue to be supported yet others would feel that Brazil is getting somewhere. Now unless a miracle Brazil looks like 4 years of more mediocrity and further resentment of a party that essentially buys the vote in the north east. In likeliness however is because Brazil is facing such a economic pull back the poor will be the worse for it and may come to realise that the PT are not the saviours they pretend to be.

I agree with the person quoted in the article. “Come to Miami”... or Tampa or even Annapolis!

Get out while you can. Bring your money and business ideas!

We have great schools for your your children, fantastic medical care if you need it (and your diagnosis won't be “infectious fever”, our doctors will actually identify the virus causing the fever and treat for that specific virus).

Heck, we even cover your “football” on TV!

Yup, come on up while you can. Sooner then you expect that option will be taken from you by your governement.

“ Anthropologist Roberto DaMatta explained: ”Brazil was a monarchy, an aristocracy with slavery. And the republic essentially came into being more in the northeast than in Rio de Janeiro, where the monarchy was concentrated.“

Actually before that we were a series of colonies, fought over back and forth for years.

Fortaleza for example was a colony of the Dutch people for many years. There is a Dutch stone Fort which the city gets it's name from. And many with Dutch surnames or parentage are looked on as elder statesmen.

Getting back to the theme here: President Dilma once again will have to address the verifiable corruption ”kickback“ payoffs going on with Petrobras, and other large contractors.

Too many witnesses that can't be hidden or paid off, and too much evidence so far. The majority of the Nordeste as the article states could care less and have essentially given her a ”pass“ in her re-election..

Gone to Miami ? Hah ! Too square, and dull, except for shopping. Even the medicinal embalming fluid known as ”51” is 7 times too expensive there.

Dilma can say whatever she wants to downplay the division between those that work, and those that sponge off those that work. Lula always played that card, trying to obtain support amongst the lower classes by throwing them against the so-called 'elite', which ironically, Lula and his thieving family have become part of, after stealing to the order of US$ 2.9 BILLION.....his attempts , as well as Dilma's, successful so far, to prevent the IRS from going after him, are irrefutable evidence that he was the leader of the 'mensalão'- even though he wasn't indicted - as well as the responsible party for all the corruption going on within Petrobrás.....the PT can say whatever they want, but half the population , the more intelligent half, has already woken up and has a very good idea of what's going on...it's just a matter of time before the shit starts to hit the fan.
