The visit of two Members of the British Parliament to the Falkland Islands, as announced last week has been cancelled. However the invitation to visit the Islands remains open and hopefully it will take place next year.
Deputy Clerk to the Assembly Cherie Clifford explained that the Labor Member, Yvonne Fovargue, had been transferred to the Shadow Education Ministerial team last week and her new responsibilities prevented her from visiting the Islands at this time.
As the Conservative Member, Guy Opperman, was no longer ‘paired’ he, very reluctantly, had to cancel as well.
It is hoped that they can both visit the Falklands after the UK General Election in May next year, said Ms Clifford, adding that the Government apologized for any inconvenience the cancellation had caused and was grateful to all those who had agreed to contribute to the visit program.
Nevertheless the Falklands' government will be busy because it will be hosting a visit from a Trinidad delegation 29 November to 6 December.
The delegation will consist of the following gentlemen: Anthony Vieira – Safety Systems Ltd; Kern Dass – National Energy Skills Centre; Lance Dowrich – Kenson School of Production Technology and Blair Ferguson – Kenson School of Production Technology.
Further details of the visit will announced later this week. (PN)
