The Argentine unit of Brazilian state-controlled oil giant Petrobras plans to invest 622 million dollars to explore for non-conventional natural gas in Neuquen, the Argentine government announced on Monday. Read full article
PMSL So let's look at the figures, US$ 240 million spent ( approx could be more or less )
gain US$ 280 million ( approx could be more or less ) that equates to a saving of 1.2% and that does not take into account inflation, corruption etc etc.again PMSL
Now if they invested US$ 20 BILLION that would make a difference, oops they don't have US$ 20 billion, silly me.

Yes, you are right, but shale gas is far more expensive to extract than oil and conventional gas. Vast and I mean vasts amounts of water are needed and lots of different chemicals are needed( all imported I might add ) to frack the structure. Sometimes 2km of horizontal drilling are required and that is on top of the depth of well say 4kms. This numbnut is talking to the uneducated tosspots in Argentina. It will cost many billions of US$ to make a difference to their balance of payments.
Captain Itch (Dismal) nearly seems to have a smile on his face-maybe he's squeezed two tubes of pile cream up his butt-or perhaps he's the Argy that shoots himself in the foot, but in his case it actually hurts? In that case of he's on Morphine-another shot Captain, and you might smile....
Petrobras Argentina expects to drill 44 wells at depths of up to 4,000 meters in Neuquen's Punta Rosada formation
I've given up trying to guess whether this will actually happen or not and am surprised the usual Argentine formula of 'it'll definitely happen within 25 years' has not been applied.

Do they just pull numbers out of thin air? Until wells are drilled and tested how in the world would they know the size of the field and flow rate?
