Brazil lost jobs in October for the first time in at least 15 years, revealing the delicate state of the economy ahead of potential tax hikes and government austerity. Labor Ministry data showed on Friday that Latin America's largest economy unexpectedly trimmed 30,283 net payroll jobs in the tenth month of the year, the worst reading for the month since the data series began in 1999. More jobs will be lost now that the UK is blocking the part of the Gripen deal for building military jets. Brazil can only build its own, NONE for Argentina.
I expect Brazil is probably secretly pleased that Argentina is being forced out of the deal by the UK. Even if it does mean a loss of jobs and income.
Another example of how UK 'soft-power' defeats the need for 'hard-power' whilst maintaining both in the South Atlantic.

Brazil needs Argentina like a fish needs a bicycle.

Brazil has also seriously damaged itself by re-electing Dilma.

“”Labor Minister Manoel Dias blamed the October election for the surprisingly weak numbers, suggesting companies might have put off hiring plans as they waited to see who would win the country's tightest presidential race in decades.“”...
The uncertainty of the outcome of the election - in that Dilma might have been re-elected - WAS most definitely one of the reasons for reduced hiring......but now that the worst scenario has actually happened, what makes the Government think that the market's confidence will spring back ??? DumboAss is going to have to create a favouble investment environment - not one of her strong points, - o'wise things are just going to get worse.

“We expect better results in November as we have news of many new building contracts and extensive hiring in construction,” the minister said in an emailed statement.“”
Wishful thinking.... and IF by any chance, in December the government claims that unemployment has decreased, it's only because their stats don't count the increasing numbers of able-bodied people of working age getting handouts, and those who have given up looking for a job , as being unemployed...
Anytime the stats show bad results for a prolonged period, rest assured that the government will attempt to change the way in which they calculate the indices, to benefit themselves.

Thanks JackB for your posts, always worth a read.
Is it true that Petrobas officials illegally financed Morales party in Bolivia? Or worse, did so with Gov blessing?
As a Nationalised Co. surely the people should know?
    .
    Or was this election hype?
    Will we ever know?
I would be interested to know.
    thanks!

    @5 Ilsen
    Thanks Ilsen.
Re Petrobrás, Dilma - and Lula, who controls the her like his sockpuppet - decided to send Morales US$ 434 million, referring to a clause in some contract negotiated between Petrobrás and Bolivia during Lula's 2nd term, whereby it was left to the discretion of Petrobrás to pay Bolivia some type of bonus....for what, is not very clear, but without a doubt, it was not a debt and did not have to be paid. BUT, knowing Lula's friendship for Morales, the former instructed - through Dilma - to make the payment. The fact that it was totally unnecessary, was not taken into account by the PT government. That's why today, Petrobrás' finances are in the red, with no short term perspective to get into the black.
As a nationalised Co. shouldn't the people know ?? the answer is most definitely YES, but what can you expect from a socialist-communist ideology-driven government, such as the PT's ?
