Thousands of people participated Sunday in a race organized by Argentina's government to press for a dialogue with Britain over the Falkland Islands, officials said.#YoCorroPorMalvinas was a success! More than 10 thousand people came out today to say Yes to a dialogue for the Malvinas, Malvinas Islands Affairs Secretary Daniel Filmus said in a Twitter post. Read full article

Nov 17th, 2014 - 07:25 am - Link - Report abuse 0The UK people take part in similar races to raise money for charity (mostly medical charities such as Cancer Research) in Argentina they hold races in support of stealing other peoples land. Sad.
Nov 17th, 2014 - 08:23 am - Link - Report abuse 0Yes, very sad. And all the could afford was 10,000 people. That's less than the UK park run attendance that turn up voluntarily every single Saturday.
Nov 17th, 2014 - 08:27 am - Link - Report abuse 0Isn't it rather strange the Argentina is prepared to talk to/at anyone about their spurious claims on the Falklands and South Sandwich Islands.
Nov 17th, 2014 - 08:28 am - Link - Report abuse 0EXCEPT the only people that matter, the People of the Falkland islands, who actually live on the Islands.
And whenever the democratically elected representatives of the Falkland island tell the Truth, Argentina attempts to drown this out.

Nov 17th, 2014 - 09:18 am - Link - Report abuse 0Well now, less than a week after spurning a request for dialogue, the Argentines are organising a run demanding dialogue.

They dont even know what is going on and the lawmakers invitation
@5. I thought the argies did their best in the Mount Tumbledown cross-country. I was watching a programme I recorded from the tv yesterday called 'The Falklands War'. It seems that, after British troops took Mount Tumbledown, there was some concern that the downslope might be mined. But then someone noticed that the ground was churned up as if by a herd of cattle. If a herd of argie cattle could manage, so could British troops. I believe that the argies didn't want to face the Gurkhas. Argies should note that there are still Gurkhas in the British Army!
Nov 17th, 2014 - 10:45 am - Link - Report abuse 0If evidence were required that the Falklands is all about populism and domestic politics....here it is in spades.
Nov 17th, 2014 - 10:54 am - Link - Report abuse 0Hope they enjoyed their jog. Is the Argentine Government about to do a U turn on its asinine behaviour at Parlasur. I doubt it. Waste of space the lot of them.

Nov 17th, 2014 - 11:02 am - Link - Report abuse 0I believe that WOULD happen if they ever attempt another landing.
However, they would never get that close again: Belgrano to the power 2.
The picture in my mind made me laugh out loud. :o)
When I think about the charitable causes that the Argentine government could have orchestrated this marathon for, Ebola for one, it's a very poor reflection on this nation that they only ever think about their own selfish interests all the time.

#13 I am reliably informed that a small group of Ghurkas brought up the rear of this race with drawn Khukeries. Apparently there were brown stains all along the route which was completed in record time. Their presence was financed by the British Overseas Aid fund.

Gurkhas as blood thirsty savages were part of the Arg junta´s propaganda efforts, as well as to discredit them.
Sadly some folks here (outside Argentina) seem to still buy that distorted image.
@27
Nov 17th, 2014 - 02:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0We know it was all over before the Gurkhas were involved much to their chagrin, apparently they were looking forward to a fight but the Argies were looking to their rear. As has been stated on these forums many times before , just because the word Malvinas appears in the title of the event doesn't mean people are there to run in support of dialogue .
Nov 17th, 2014 - 03:13 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They are simply there to go for a run .
Malvinas appears everywhere , it's the name of stations , neighbourhoods , stadiums , schools , you name it .
I think it was CD2 who said its like an refrigerator , nothing more than a background hum .
85% of Argentines couldn't give a rats arse about the islands , there are far more important things to be solved closer to home .
Has anyone else noticed that the only time we see state-sponsored demos/marches/runs etc. It is always either from populist governments or dictatorships?

@27. An interesting article.
Nov 17th, 2014 - 03:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Some useful points. The Gurkhas never fired a shot. That would be because the argies ran too fast. Gurkhas are fine soldiers. And disciplined. It wasn't so long ago that some argie troll on here was extolling the virtues of Gandhi for defeating the world's greatest empire without firing a shot. Conveniently forgetting the size of the Indian population and its liking for rioting. But let's stick with the Gurkhas. Facing the 25th Regiment and the remnants of the 5th Marine Battalion ensconced on Mount William. How do you rate a single battalion of Gurkhas when the argies, en masse, ran? Probably best for the argies. Although in the RAF, my father fought with the Gurkhas once in India. An action for which they presented him with a kukri. A weapon that I still have. Nasty bastard, my father! I've met a few Gurkhas. Very polite, very courteous. Quite recently had to be told to stop lopping heads off to prove they had completed their missions.

Personally I 'Think' the Scotch would have been just as effective as the Ghurkas. As Stinks' sock puppet points out. Big, hairy, with skirts, tackle swinging free covered in woad, whirling claymores and the wail of the pipes pursuing them up the road, very scary… The spectators would surely join in too? Just the right sort of folk to man the police force in Villa 31!

These brave and true Scottish would never humiliate themselves to that degree...not like. erm...Voicey!!!
They should have started in BA and run all the way to Stanley.
Nov 17th, 2014 - 05:20 pm - Link - Report abuse 0#33 Theres a job for you on the Falklands, very rewarding, prodding the turf with a stick, just the thing for a macho Argie like yourself with no fear… Then, you can have a pint with the locals in The Goose and debate the status quo of the islands. You might be able to speak with some authority then instead of residing in ignorance.
Nov 17th, 2014 - 05:34 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Under the British Nationality Act 1981, a resident of the Falkland Islands was classed as a British Dependent Territories citizen. Those citizens were restricted in their right to enter and stay in the UK. The 1983 Act conferred full British citizenship on the residents of the Falkland Islands, giving them similar status to that of citizens in Gibraltar. So the British did not really care much about the islanders until after the war wake-up event. Without Galtieri's foolishness and without the military dictatorship, I would have offered the Argentine nationality to the islanders (with the advantage of hospitals and other services close by) and we would have our Malvinas today.

Funny how Anglotino said quite some time ago that he arrives in Vancouver on the 28th of November....
Puppet Troy, that is expecting his arrival and has been e-mailing back and forth...gets the date wrong...says the 29 OR 30th.....
Skip then goes for a pathetic attempt to cover this by changing Arriving to how long he will be there.....

Opps I meant Anglotino....
What date would that be..???

November 29th or 30th

Heh heh.
Re. ilsen,
I think you should re-post your email address so he can write, then we can discuss things without crackheads listening in.
:-)
I honestly have no idea what Voice thinks is going on. He is so manic it is hard to keep up with his constant need to be the centre of attention; let alone his desperation in continually moving the goalposts.
Nov 18th, 2014 - 07:51 am - Link - Report abuse 0Troy @48: “…packing his bags to visit Vancouver.”
Voice @49: “Remind me again when are you visiting Vancouver...?” “What date would that be..???”
Troy @52: “November 29th or 30th”
Me @64: “Troy was right I'll be in Vancouver for 29/30 November”
Voice @69: “...that would be arriving 28th Nov....not 29th/30th.....”
So now it is ARRIVING not VISITING.
Me @73: “As I will be DEPARTING Vancouver probably on 1st December, I will therefore be IN Vancouver on the interviewing days between arriving and departing. Namely the 29th and 30th of November.”
Voice @ 81: “.ol' Voice caught you yet again.... To be a good liar you need a good memory.... Funny how Anglotino said quite some time ago that he arrives in Vancouver on the 28th of November....”
Which I have again stated here. So Voice is agreeing with me here.
Voice @ 81: “:Puppet Troy, that is expecting his arrival and has been e-mailing back and forth...gets the date wrong...says the 29 OR 30th.....”
Which is confusing really. Because if Troy is my puppet, then why would he/I get the date wrong? So Voice is again clearly contradicting himself.
Also note Voice’s use of the verb ARRIVING. Another clear case of Voice moving the goal posts. He changed from VISITING in post 49 to ARRIVING in post 69. And now his AAAH HA moment .
So what has Voice done here?
• Shown that I am consistent as he has agreed with me on my arrival date – he was even so kind to link a comment from September 24th – so I have been consistent for nearly 2 months
• Shown that Troy can’t be my sockpuppet because how would he/I then confuse any dates
• Shown that he needs to change his argument midway to actually make a point – the verb went from VISITING to ARRIVING.
“Do try to get your stories right in future.....”
What frickin story?
Voice is only winding you up IMO

Nov 18th, 2014 - 01:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Or am I the puppet?

Come to Think on it so does Think and Marcos and and and
The 5th Marine Battalion or BIM 5 did not 'run away' because of the arrival of the Gurkhas. According to what I remember reading in Hugh Bicheno's book Razor's Edge, the general order to withdraw had already been given by Argentine headquarters in Port Stanley at around 7am Falklands time. If I remember well, a rifle platoon of N Coy along with a mortar platoon and some army remnants from the fighting on Mt Harriet held Mt William. Nearby was O Coy, a Marine Engineers platoon and an army commando patrol, but they were all at the foot of the mountain and part of this force had fought against the Recce Platoon of the Scots Guards under Maj. Bethell. Argentine headquarters had ordered the 5th Marine Battalion to reposition on Sapper Hill, apparently near several 35mm anti aircraft guns for protection, this is the reason why Mt William was occupied without a fight. It's also worth mentioning, that an entire Gurkha battalion surrendered without a shot in late June 1942 when an Italian Bersaglieri Regiment breached the British defences at Marsa Matrouh. Another Gurkha battalion also went into captivity with the fall of Tobruk, apparently without fighting as far as I have been able to establish online.

Well, that joke is a bit stale now. Only Voice thinks he's being clever.
I suppose I did make a mistake. Voicey was asking when you would be visiting.
I replied, and told him the 29th or 30th, because that's when I would be seeing you - and because I thought he wanted to join us, I invited him to hop on a plane so he could meet on one of those dates.
I was not picking you up at the airport on the 28th.

Nov 19th, 2014 - 12:40 am - Link - Report abuse 0In November the tide turned and ran west again, and as it flowed back to Tobruk islands of prisoners abandoned by the enemy. Four hundred were recovered in Mersa Matruh of whom two hundred and seventy-five belonged to our battalion. (History of 7th Duke of Edinburgh's Own Gurkha Rifles p. 157 or google or find highlighted sentence via books.google.com Four hundred were recovered in Mersa Matruh)
I have found no evidence of actual fighting on the part of the Gurkhas during the fall of Tobruk, like medals being awarded or roll of honour detailing the ranks and number of their dead, or a website praising their bravery. I have also found no mention of the Gurkhas fighting at the Battle of Mersa Matruh.
Some 6,000-8,000 Commonwealth troops were captured at Mersa Matruh and surrounding areas in late June and early July 1942, including about 1,000 stranded New Zealand troops. Obviously most of the captured were loaded on trucks and taken to Tobruk where there were plans to take them to POW camps in Italy.

@46 : Enrique , you can call the Falklands colonies , relics or whatever else .
Nov 20th, 2014 - 10:37 am - Link - Report abuse 0If they became Argentina's , a budget would have to be found to defend the place , money Argentina simply doesn't have .
Within two years , the Chinese or the Russians would set a weather station or a ship repair facility effectively occupying the place because of it's strategic importance and they wouldn't leave .
Furthermore , there wouldn't be a fish left alive in the whole S Atlantic , with Chinese , Polish and Korean boats trawling within sight of the Argentine coast .
You personally would be worse off from a financial point of view as money was diverted to pay for the new province / colony /territory till the Chinese or Russians stole it and then you would be back at square one , or even worse if the Americans decided to get involved and eject them to occupy them themselves .
So please explain why you and the rest of the Malvinistas keep playing this tired old record ?

Nov 22nd, 2014 - 10:08 am - Link - Report abuse 0Up to the 1980's , a lot of sporting events were sponsored by tobacco companies .
Nov 22nd, 2014 - 11:40 am - Link - Report abuse 0Does that mean competitors were racing cars , throwing darts , playing rugby or whatever IN SUPPORT OF SMOKING ?
Very strange logic in the title and content of this article .
And the FALKLANDERS still carry on with their lives, just think of all the Oil around the FALKLANDS it will make the FALKLANDERS very rich in the years to come. JOLLY GOOD LUCK TO YOU FALKLANDERS.

Is Argentina's Falklands secretary the ultimate minister without portfolio?
Daniel Filmus is a man on a mission - a mission to promote world peace. But, as Argentina's Falklands secretary tells Harriet Alexander, it's a message of peace he won't actually be taking to the disputed islands
He is responsible for a territory his country does not own, and which he has not yet visited - and may never do so.
No colonies last forever, he told The Telegraph last week
the only reason that Argentina has revived its historic claim to the islands is to distract its populace from its own economic woes. That, the Falklands may have oil reserves that may one day prove commercially viable to exploit.
Roger Edwards, chair of the Falklands Islands legislative assembly, said Mr Filmus would be very welcome
But
No,” said Mr Filmus
He fears that Mr Edwards might be secretly plotting to kidnap him. Instead, he says he is unable to speak to the inhabitants because the United Nations prohibits it – a stance has caused bafflement in London,

Lack of steady work seems to really be getting to Paul. But powerless to control or make changes to his own life, he at least gets to vent on here.
Nov 23rd, 2014 - 01:04 am - Link - Report abuse 0I sorta feel like I'm performing some sort of community service. Will probably stop him from getting caught up in this year's annual Christmas riots.

Nov 23rd, 2014 - 01:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0Rather than playing Polo, CabanaBoy must take the bus ( with Malvinas message, to 'remind' the dupes..) to go watch on the sidelines.
How much is the spectator ticket?
Will he be waving a little YPF pennant
down in the mosh pit, or helping La Campora with the Malvinas banner?
After that?
Christmas shopping - I'm waiting to hear about how Judge Griesa is forcing the starving families to loot shops for Big Screen TV's.
Last year, very few desperate families were actually stealing food in comparison to those making off with electronics and luxury goods, in Patagonia...
What have you asked La Campora for Christmas this year, CabanaBoy ??
Oh , yes , the Buenos Aires looting season is upon us once again .
Nov 23rd, 2014 - 11:38 am - Link - Report abuse 0Well reminded Troy Tempest .

Nov 23rd, 2014 - 10:17 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Have a look at what ONE Ghurkha did to over FORTY heavily armed robbers out to gang rape a young woman in front of her parents.
http://www.badassoftheweek.com/shrestha.html
Then have a look how pissed off the Ghurkhas were when their Major had to give them the bad news about the WHITE flag over Stanley [1.11mins] AND they would not be in battle after all [1.25mins] and then read what they said.
http://www.badassoftheweek.com/shrestha.html
I am honoured to be friends with a lot of retired Ghurkhas in the UK: marvellous guys.
AND you lot thought you were winning the war!
The ONLY mistake The Blessed Margaret made was to listen to Raygun Ronnie Reagan begging her to let the scum have some honour (or as he said honor) when we should have bombed you cunts back to the stone age.
We wouldn’t be faced with TMBOA and all her crooks now, would we?
@157
Nov 24th, 2014 - 12:51 am - Link - Report abuse 0Agree with you entirely, the Ghurkas were very dissappointed that the Argies surrendered.
