The United States Senate confirmed soap opera producer Colleen Bell to be the next U.S. ambassador to Hungary and political consultant Noah Mamet to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Argentina on Tuesday. Neither of the two newly-confirmed Ambassadors are career diplomats, but both raised millions for President Obama's Presidential campaigns. Read full article

Never been to Argentina and doesn't speak Spanish? They gave that one a lot of thought didn't they. Presumably he has lots of experience with dealing with neurotic women?

They most certainly did give it a lot of thought. A soap opera producer is an ideal and sensitive choice.

Maybe they have sent all their good diplomats to important countries.

Argentina is getting in return the pathetic diplomats it has been sending out.

Doesn't speak Spanish. Bahahahahaha. So he can push the mute button on his translator when CFK starts ranting in her man voice.

They got that one incredibly wrong. Surely the ex soap opera producer should've been sent to Argentina... and in time for panto season.

@8. I'm not sure that you completely sum it up, but you seem to have the gist. Who says Mamet will be incompetent? He seems to have some reasonable qualifications. Driver and bodyguard for Mel Levine. Senior adviser and national finance director for Dick Gephardt. Own PR and communications firm. Monitor for elections in Sierra Leone. So he'll be able to take care of himself. Understands money and will be able to recognise spin and corruption when he sees it. I expect he'll be able to send some quite amusing reports back to Obama. It's possible that Mamet is a Jewish name. That should scare Herr Timermann.

He is only going so he can work on a new script about a failed state called Aresentina run by Botox junkie ( any reference to CKF is purely coincidental) who finds a book telling of a mystical island of wealth called Malvinass. but i am giving the plot away to what is a a great comedy.

Well Noah might be able to show the Argentine navy how to build a boat that floats, with an interpreter on standby of course.

Argentina is again rated as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. It moved into a lower place this year. In a few years they're going to run out of places!
Maybe they'll set a new standard!

Right now they owe U$11B in holdout claims, Arg is offering no more than U$6B if they don't take that deal they're going to leave it up to the next gov't to resolve.

2015 will be fun fun fun to watch

The more the two countries drift apart, the better. These are all small steps in the eventual breaking of relations. Great development for Argentina.

Why would anyone break off diplomatic relations with Argentina?

Much more fun to send diplomats that frustrate them. There's nothing they can do. Failure to acknowledge will only mean a more pathetic one will be sent.

You are trapped Argentina. You cannot escape from the system even as you slow sink to the bottom of every measure.

    There aren't 2 billion Chinese. There's 1.3 billion.

And they don't outproduce. China' economy is only bigger measured in GDP (PPP) which is a MATEHMATICAL formula.

Only simpletons (or Argentine educated posters) believe Chinese economic statistics. Google and learns out how China's provincial statistics don't add up to the national ones. How electricity and rail can be used as a proxy. How exports to Hong Kong puff out export growth figures.

Argentineans are used to governments lying and faking statistics so you have to feel sorry for them.

    @43

    A MATHEMATICAL FORMULA???

    Lol what a moron.

I guess your travels ain't helping your IQ.

PPP only means that action production, output and transactions are compared to like production, output, and transactions.

So what you are saying is that in Norway one pays 9 USD for a bottle of milk, and you pay 0.50 cents in Mongolia, yet the same number of people worked the same amount of hours to make the bottle, ship the milk, milk the cow... etc, the same amount of employees at the supermarket to shelve it... that the Norwegian transaction was 20 times larger??

    Bollocks.

If Nominal is the truth and not PPP... then you do know AUSTRALIA is in a full fledged massive DEPRESION, its GDP has shrunk 20% since 2011 right?

    in 2011 1 USD = 0.98 ASD
    now ? 1 USD = 1.18 ASD

that's a 20% plunge which means your whole ecomony has contracted 20%.

    OR HAS IT?

Do you feel the depression in the street? Or maybe, just maybe... the UNITS OF PRODUCTION have stayed the same or even increased??

    https://sg.news.yahoo.com/australian-dollar-fresh-4-low-gdp-data-disappoints-070806077--finance.html

... But the value of the unit compared to another like unit is down??? (in this case, to US units)

That's what PPP does. It evens out the currency volatility, that rarely has anything to do with the main street economy and mostly is speculators and stock markets manipulating it.
