This demonstrates the utter failure by TMBOA to pay enough money to the producers to maintain the system.

After so many years of neglect it's a wonder there is any supply at any time.

BTW you mad cow: pay your outstanding electricity bill to Uruguay.

As you have little grasp of engineering I will explain.
In order to keep working, machinery needs to be constantly serviced and maintained. This also applies to the power grid and ancillary systems.
As far as I know we in the UK have had nothing to do with this for decades.
You should get your indigenous engineers and scientists to make the system the envy of the world. You always tell us that you need nothing from Europe, the USA or anywhere. Fine, get on with it.

    25. The electrical companies have been doing a remarkable job with what they've been given.
At one point a 5 or so years ago CFK wanted to nationalize them so she choked off their u$. Then I guess having yet another state industry fail that is so close to the people wasn't a good idea so she kept them private, sort of.
The companies have been forced to use substandard products for years. They are also buying lines that are meant for more temperate weather and melt when it gets above 80F. There's little they can do but replace them with with the bad materials and hope for the best.
Argentina is very lucky GDP is dropping like a rock in this recession. It is saving them from total blackouts. Since they don't have to divert the energy to the consumers any longer since there's no mfg any longer.
    There's a great reckoning coming.
    I can't wait.

Toby, Did you see the article about the huge amount of small wineries failing? They say if you don't have a $400MM turn over you have to close.

Cap are you going to Arg this Winter? I decided to go to Cartagena for my Jan holiday. I think Arg is getting too dangerous and everything seems to be crumbling and out of control right now.
As I said, 2015 was always the year that analysts have been watching closely. There's too many payments due for them NOT to go bankrupt.

The main problem facing the electricity providers in TDC will be unauthorised (and usually illegal) use by deadbeats tapping into the existing system.

How can ANY system, even a poorly designed, constructed and maintained one such as that in TDC cope with being overloaded to the point where something fails?

The failure usually 'rings'* the system resulting in upstream, unbalanced surges that cause physical damage to major switchgear. The ONLY primary transformer explosion I have ever seen was the one caught on a cell phone camera by the passenger of a car driving in BsAs. The flash was almost the equivalent of a lightning strike: it lit up the horizon as if it were daytime instead of pre-dawn darkness.

*Ringing on a power system is far more harmful than that on an acoustic device. Think of it as an enormous elastic band held between the user and the supplier of the electricity. When the failure occurs the band is broken and the energy formed by the ringing flies back to the source and dumps itself as soon as it can, irrespective of whether the receiving device can handle it or not (usually not).

A primary transformer is defined as those transformers directly connected to the power station generators. These are the biggest transformers owned by the electricity company.

    Poor employee pay.

    Poor cultural work ethic.

Society lacks an ethos valuing quality.

No properly trained engineers to operate the systems.

    Deferred maintenance.

    Quality of local materials.

    Increasing number illegal connections.

    Erratic power generation capability.

The government forced on the electric companies frozen tariffs over a decade and subsidized the difference. Then of course nobody cares when the slums simply hook on to the grid illegally, because it is subsidized, the government will pay. The politicians know this, the companies know this, the consumers know this, but we pay differentiated bills that has a stamp “Subsidiado por el estado nacional” on it.

This was predicted years and years ago. The companies don’t invest they are virtually State run.

In part it is true, but then you must understand the opposition as a result of the people who voted them in. Most of them are crap, there is a significant quantity of politicians that certainly know what is wrong, but they are not saying the kind of things that make you lose votes.

For example in 2011, the closest runners to CFK’s 54% where socialists 16% and radicals 10%. In all sense they are not ideologically different, they are all left wing, they are all populists, they are all culturally peronists and statists.
In my opinion the 95% of the people of Argentina have the stupid belief that Milton Friedman once described; they comfort when they are given stuff and they think it’s FREE, they love the government do charity and that the government spends money because they secretly think it’s someone else’s money, but what they don’t realize is that while they use other people’s money, somebody else is wasting their money too.

    @115 L. Ron Cabeza Dura

Here's what some more South Africans thought on the matter. You might have heard of some of these :

“Even during the days of negotiations, our own experience taught us that the pursuit of human fraternity and equality -- irrespective of race or religion -- should stand at the centre of our peaceful endeavours. The choice is not between freedom and justice, on the one hand, and their opposite, on the other. Peace and prosperity; tranquility and security are only possible if these are enjoyed by all without discrimination.
It is in this spirit that I have come to join you today to add our own voice to the universal call for Palestinian self-determination and statehood.”
    -Nelson Mandela

“I've been very deeply distressed in my visit to the Holy Land; it reminded me so much of what happened to us black people in South Africa. I have seen the humiliation of the Palestinians at checkpoints and roadblocks, suffering like us when young white police officers prevented us from moving about.”

    - Archbishop Desmond Tutu

“Israel came to resemble more and more apartheid South Africa at its zenith -- even surpassing its brutality, house demolitions, removal of communities, targeted assassinations, massacres, imprisonment and torture of its opponents, collective punishment and the aggression against neighbouring states.”

    - Former South African Intelligence Minister Ronnie Kasrils from a speech at Israel Apartheid Week 2009.

“But what is interesting is that every black South African that I've spoken to who has visited the Palestinian territory has been horrified and has said without hesitation that the system that applies in Palestine is worse.”

    - Professor John Dugard, Former U.N. Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Occupied Palestine.

Hardly surprising that Nelson Mandela would say so, after all he was a terrorist himself and praised the dictator Fidel Castro (how many blacks did Cuba kill in Angola and Eritrea??) and another terrorist like Yasser Arafat. He also was an ally of Muammar Gaddafi, who donated to the ANC over 10 million US$.

He supported Nigerian coup leader Sani Abacha, refusing to say a word publicly to stop the 1995 hanging of activist Ken Saro-Wiwa….

Then you’ve got a Bishop, a ANC politician and a UN bureaucrat.

Like it or not you lefties and ragheads should recognize that sinse the Wall was put in place checkspoints put in place, terrorist attacks, assasination of israelies have all droped significantly since then.

“Their long-term goal is to use the UN to impose economic sanctions on Israel, widening the Arab boycott to encompass much of the world. Economic measures contributed to the downfall of the real apartheid regime in South Africa -- thus the appeal of this approach. The recent exploitation of the UN to indict Israel for building a security barrier, followed by a pseudo-legal endorsement from the misnamed International Court of Justice, are important elements in this game plan. Next on the agenda will be the introduction of a UN resolution to impose sanctions, citing Israeli rejection of the ICJ advisory opinion.”
