Oh dear, can this woman make her mind up?
It seems the trees are for it.
”The president's relationship with Abreu has drawn criticism from traditional party allies such as the landless peasants movement (MST) who say too much of Brazil's farmland remains in the hands of a powerful minority and have held protests against her in recent weeks.”
The MST is just an amorphous group of free-loaders which receives millions out of taxpayers' money every year, from the federal Government. Instead of remaining on, and working the lands they are 'settled' onto, they just abandon the land and get back into the 'movement', to claim more. They use a good part of the money they receive, to buy urban properties, new cars, and all of the luxury amenities money can afford....with absolutely no monitoring from the government on how the money is spent. Very few of them actually remain working the land they were given......which is not surprising, given the fact that only a very small minority of them, were small farmers/ land owners before joining the movement. To garner popular support, the original organizers of the MST, appealed to thousands of unemployed in the cities, who had never even seen a farm, all 'bums' in general....anyone was welcome, in order to swell the ranks. Over the last 10 years, instead of settling down, they have just become a criminal movement targeting any agricultural land, regardless of whether highly productive and supplying thousands of jobs to legitimate farm workers, in order to gain something for themselves and their spurious movement. The FHC government (1995-2002) fought and weakened the MST, but the PT, instead of keeping up the fight, gave them wings, and now, is unable to control the monster they permitted to grow into what it is.
