Petrobras, Brazil's state-run oil company, could be declared in technical default on some of its foreign debt if bondholders pursue efforts to force it to speed up its assessment of losses in a giant corruption scandal, according to reports from Reuters. Read full article

Dec 31st, 2014 - 10:25 am - Link - Report abuse 0Please explain how this company GOT into this huge mess which threatens the entire well being of Brazil.
Lula no doubt is laughing all the way to the banks he has hidden his part of the pay-offs in.
Brazil is nowhere near being a modern country, more like a vassal state.
Good to see actions seeking to bring thesae crooks out into the open.
I think we are seeing the start of another Argentine fiasco here.
If you want to play by the civilized world's rules to get better rates you must play by the rules to get the good rates.

:)
It was not Lula, Cardoso was released that 5% stake in Petrobras through ADR on the NYSE in 1999.
Dec 31st, 2014 - 02:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0We are pressing the government and Petrobras to rescue these shares as soon as possible. And close the capital on the New York Stock Exchange.
I do not think there will be big problems because those 5% of the capital, mostly belong to Brazilian institutional investors (Previ, Petros, FUNCEF, etc).
@1. Which US court would that be? I see no mention of a US court decision, judgement or order. The situation seems to depend on Petrobras doing what it is obliged to do by law. Do you have a problem with Petrobras doing what is obliged to do by law? What the hell, it's only US$54 billion. Chicken feed. What a pity that Petrobras doesn't release credible information. Leading to suggestions that its 'mega-field' discoveries are so much toffee. How many lies has Petrobras told? A civilised person would be looking for an official investigation, backed by a judicial enquiry and judges to give considered rulings and decisions. Why wouldn't YOU want that? In reality, Brazil, led by a terrorist, reckons that argieland and venezuela have the right idea. It reckons that it can do what it wants without any restrictions. You need to learn that you can't blame anyone else for your corruption, criminality and incompetence. Permanent member of the Security Council? Listen for the screams of protest from the people of the world!
Dec 31st, 2014 - 03:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@4. Rescue shares? Got US$54 billion you don't need? Plus all the dividends!
If it wasn't state controlled PetroBras would be bankrupt by now.
Dec 31st, 2014 - 03:34 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Its had a 48% decrease in share price yoy.
Id the bondholders pu them in default...they're doomed.
Correct. Petrobras does not break, but not so we'll slap the money.
