HHSL Systems Limited of Trinidad and Tobago and Invenio Falkland Islands Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding ( MOU) to mark the start of a relationship that will see the Trinidad-based company help train Invenio representatives in the oil and gas industry.

The deal was announced at the Trinidad and Tobago Energy Conference which took place at the Regency Hyatt in Port-of-Spain. The agreement comes as the Falkland Islands continues preparations to begin the production process of oil and gas.

HHSL is just one of many Trinidad-based companies being sought out by organizations from the Falkland Islands. Trinidad has become the “go-to” place for the Falkland Islands since its oil discovery a few years ago. The twin island republic boasts of over 100 years experience in the production of oil and gas.

Martin Winward of the Falkland Islands Community School and Training Centre said he hoped that similar agreements with companies like Kenson Group can be reached where citizens of his country can spend time in Trinidad training in the industry. His target is for a viable training program by 2017.

Gas Program Manager, Mike Brough of the Falkland Islands government, who also attended the Energy Conference in Port of Spain said there were many things the Falklands could learn from Trinidad and Tobago.

He added: “They’ve been doing this for a long time. We [Falkland Islands] need training in things like legislation and regulations when it comes to the oil and gas sector.”

Brough went on to say that while the process will be slow in getting the Falklands ready to produce oil and gas, a great relationship between the two nations could be forged in the coming years.
