Germany wants to speed negotiations for a free trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur, said Foreign minister Walter Steinmeier in Brasilia. The agreement has been pending since 1999 when discussions started but so far have been unable to reach a deal or commit a date because of internal problems from both sides. Read full article

Disclaimer & comment rulesArgentina cannot even hold up the existing Mercosur agreement with Brazil and Uruguay, how does the EU / Germany expect to miraculously overcome the deadbeats of the south?
Feb 16th, 2015 - 10:02 am - Link - Report abuse 0Mercosur is nothing more than a political façade since Venezuela bullied their way in with cheap oil. Now look what we in Uruguay are paying due to the stupidity of Sendic, (as head of ANCAP) our soon to be V.P. and if Vasquez croaks he will become the Pres.!!!!
Argentina still owes Uruguay for all the electricity to date that was sent via the Plate cable to help them out when their useless system failed again.
When will the deadheads that rule us realise that TDC is taking the piss and 'helping our brothers' only works in their favour and screw you?

Feb 16th, 2015 - 11:21 am - Link - Report abuse 0and nobody gives a shite about what kirchner says, cause she is leaving the govt in +/- 6 months
without argentina that agreement would have no sense, since argentina is the main player.
now, it would be a lot better to have that agreement once england has left the eu.
you know, for some reasons, they are not the most trustable pirates.
Without Argenchina the agreement would be more credible. Liars and cheats dont stick to agreements and cannot be trusted which is why it is shut out and treated as a pariah rogue state
Feb 16th, 2015 - 12:02 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The UK will not leave the EU, it will just play a major part in reforming it. If it doesnt reform the EU will collapse anyway.
As for our piratical past we are proud of it… Aharrr. Jim Laad!
@3. Well, well, pablo, I sort of agree with you. BUT not this bit.
Feb 16th, 2015 - 12:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0without argentina that agreement would have no sense, since argentina is the main player.' That's a joke, isn't it? It's true that argieland could be a 'main player' in a fart factory. Have you got a list of the agreements and contracts that argieland has fully complied with from beginning to end? That includes paying. It shouldn't take long. 5-10 minutes at the most. We mustn't get started on a list of treaties and international laws where argieland has failed to comply, ignored, reneged, repudiated or just wriggled out. There isn't enough time left in your life!
I agree it would be better to have an agreement once England had left the EU. We're quite good at figuring out when argies are being corrupt, criminal or just plain lying. As a matter of interest, what are you going to do about Northern Ireland, Wales and 'the other place'? You see, here in the British Isles, we have this thing called the United Kingdom (UK). Things like defence and foreign affairs are still reserved to the UK. Northern Ireland, Wales and 'the other place' aren't members of the EU. The UK is. The largest constituent part of the UK is ENGLAND. Are you beginning to see problems with your 'cunning plan'?
Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see the UK leave the EU. Wouldn't want you drooling on your keyboard but it would save us about £56 million every day. That's pounds sterling. Proper money. Not like the toilet paper you use.
Meanwhile, many people in England, Northern Ireland, Wales and 'the other place' want to have as little to do with argieland as possible. Did you know that, during your little escapade in '82, you killed 28 servicemen from Wales, 22 from 'the other place' and 1 from the Republic of Ireland. Apart from the 3 civilian ladies from the Falklands, killed following an argie war crime, all the rest were from England. Can't imagine argieland being a popular place, can you?
The UK will not leave the EU,
Feb 16th, 2015 - 12:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Hang on a minute. Let's wait for the referendum. There are a lot of unhappy Brits who just can't wait to put their cross on a ballot paper to do exactly that.

Feb 16th, 2015 - 01:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0To get a referendum you are assuming that the Conservatives will have an outright majority. That remains to be seen.
Foreign companies invested in Britain BECAUSE we were in the EU and business was more amenable than a regulated regime in the rest of the EU.
If Britain leaves the EU,will these companies leave and set up in Eastern Europe ? Starting a factory on a greenfield site with a cheap workforce could be attractive. Most manufacturing processes are now automated, and in the case of the car industry, produced by robots.
If you think of SKODA, they were a joke until they came into the EU.
Now their cars top the reliability tables and are best sellers..
The idea of going back to trade with commonwealth countries is a non-starter.
We cut them loose decades ago and they have established other markets.
They owe us nothing as far as trade goes.
One benefit of being in the EU is that it has stopped wars between the member states which has saved us more money than we have paid in.
If Britain does pull out, then internationally we will be on our own with no voice that anyone will listen to. The days of PAX BRITTANICA are long gone.
7 Absolutely right but with the SNP eating into Labour seats in Scotland it's not totally impossible that The Tories will get back in.
Feb 16th, 2015 - 04:04 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The rest of your argument seems to be based on the fact that the UK is so insignificant that we cannot survive on our own. However a 60 million reasonably affluent market must hold some attractions for Germany, France, Italy, Spain et al. Don't get me wrong I'm not for cutting all ties and don't expect the EU to cut off its nose to spite its face. The SNP ran a similar argument during its argument for independence, that the rest of the UK wouldn't look to isolate/punish Scotland after independence and I think they were right.
Not very good about cars but wasn't Skoda taken over by VW rather than the EU.
As for The EU stopping wars I'm afraid they haven't done such a good job in the Ukraine and now stand accused of provoking a possible war with Russia.
Anyway let's have the referendum and let the UK people decide.
@ 7 Clyde15
Feb 16th, 2015 - 04:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Foreign companies invested in Britain BECAUSE we were in the EU and business was more amenable than a regulated regime in the rest of the EU.
Surely the rules are all the same throughout the EU or are you saying some of the other countries ignore or bend them? :o)
VW were the making of Skoda, not Poland, that was just cheap labour who would actually work; unlike the Greeks, Italians and the French to name a few who won't work.
Unlike you I back the UK and think it would be much better out of the EU.
The UK should run not walk to the nearest EU exit.
Feb 16th, 2015 - 04:37 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They never should have been a part of what is becoming a failed experiment.
Run my friends run as fast as you can.
If the EU cannot or will not reform sensibly then it will be better for the UK to be out of it. Perfectly possible for the UK, let no one tell you otherwise.
Feb 16th, 2015 - 04:37 pm - Link - Report abuse 0If that happens then the simple maths is (UK being the second biggest net payer after Germany, and just ahead of France) the EU will have to drastically reform to simply survive.
That said, the greatest achievement by far of the European project has been to make Europe, for all its war torn history, a place where war is no longer seen as an option for solving disputes.
Indeed a condition of entry talks to the EU has been a settling existing disputes, such as in the Balkans or the Aegean.
If the EU can be made to work properly (or at lest better) it is a model for the future.
Unlike Sillyband and Ball, never forgetting that Ed was one of two people mainly responsible for getting us into this sh*t in the first place.
The EU was a perfectly good idea as a trading group. What we disagree with is a politically run

I blame the BBC for not making it clear to stupid buggers such as you that the debt is for EVERYTHING, including bank / financial sector debt. Did you even click on the various sectors to see what was owed, in turn, to the UK?
AND, IT WAS JUNE 2011, not February 2015!
The UK made a massive loan to Ireland when it all went tits up for them. This massive loan was financed by the financial industry at a very low rate of interest to the UK government which in turn added a bit and loaned it to Ireland. The loan was still at a much lower rate than Ireland could have obtained for itself.
AND, finally, the UK can carry this money (much reduced now) because we only pay the smallest of loan rates. Why is this? The UK PAYS WHAT IT OWES unlike your shithole of a country, the pariah of the world.
What a plonker.
Pauly, we dont need anyones support to retain land that is legally ours. There is nothing you or any of your dodgy friends can do about it. So, get used to it!

Feb 16th, 2015 - 07:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Well, we had a vice before we went in,
Cameron will never reform Europe,
We have to come out,
How can anyone that even remotely believes in democracy stay in a Europe with a Unelected president,
The Eu has not/ever been signed of,
And they take billions from us,
And guess what is missing from the UK that we need for investment,
Money money money, that's all it takes, and we give billions to the EU and nearly 12 billion to aid,
Now eye think those billions and billions should be invested in the British people , for the British people for the benefit of the British people,
Roads, rail , power , ship building , steel , schools , NHS , etc etc
Out of the EU before it swallows us.
Just my opinion.
But remember this,,,
There is nothing, but nothing , that the EU can do for the British people,, that the British government cannot, do for the British people,
And if that British government cannot or will not do for the British people,
Then there is something very seriously wrong with the British government….

Feb 16th, 2015 - 11:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0http://www.chronicle.gi/headlines_details.php?id=35506
They state-
Recently appointed Attorney General for Gibraltar Michael Llamas, QC.
the Rock has faced and heads the effects of a changing Europe and a campaigning Spain
I would like to see HMG take the view that EU law applies between the UK and Gibraltar,
Gibraltar should integrate Schengen and the EU Customs Union is one
Seems likely. Mr Lllamas’ view reinforces the view of many on the Rock, including the Chief Minister, that the biggest challenge of all would be a future UK Government referendum on EU membership.
////////
We could well be seeing the end of British Gibraltar for a European state called Gibraltar,
Being a part of the European union [fully] and thus protected by the EU, including Spain,
Will the overlords once again convince the electorate that they would be better of and protected by the EU rather than Britain,
Until Spain changes its mind,
Just saying like,
Perhaps I have it completely wrong, but this is one decision the Gibraltarians cannot afford to get wrong,
Especially when espania lives next door, And like Argentina believes the rules only apply when it suits them,
Just my opinion.

Feb 17th, 2015 - 10:26 am - Link - Report abuse 0As an Irishman born bred and proud I find it very offensive that someone as obviously ill-educated as yourself should claim that my country has territorial claims over someone else's country. That is simply NOT TRUE.
Also, as someone else has pointed out if it wasn't for the UK we would have been in deep crap when our economy went tits up. Not only that but if the UK left the EU it is probable that that Ireland would also have to as the UK is bay far Ireland's largest trading partner. Without the UK we would be as broke as Argentina, Spain, Italy and Greece. So, I personally would like to than the UK for what they have done for us. As to your doubts about my nationality well....what would you like me to do - send you a copy of my passport or I could give you a tour of Dingle...we could pop into Flaherty's for a pint then round to Paddy Bawn Brosnans where we could have a game of pool and sit in front of the fire and have a chat with Moira the landlady, then we could nip down to the Chowder café for something to eat - no wait..they aren't open this late so perhaps we could nip up Green St to Dick Mack's it, like it's advertising says is 'just opposite the church', then up the top, turn right into main street and nip in Foxy John's - the bar is on the left and on the right he sells hardware etc. then we could walk past the Centra Supermarket and down to the Old Smokehouse, turn right past O'Sullivans, past the Court House and up to the IRA Memorial, then along to the roundabout, and into the Fisheries Harbour. along to the Ice Plant then around the Marina - what do say - are you up for it....

the only good thing the twat did was to accuse kirchner and timerman.
so, again, before saying a single word, try at least to know its significado, pedazo de boludo

Feb 20th, 2015 - 01:05 am - Link - Report abuse 0The issue here, in case it escaped you, is that a Federal Prosecutor fulfilling his role in the Judiciary - was about to expose the Prez. for corruption and coverup of a terrorist act resulting in the deaths of 85 Aryentinians!
He was then murdered by his own government, to thwart that path of Justice.
Now there is a coverup of the Murder by the same government!
Outrageous - you need to expose the truth.
Instead, for some reason, you reject that, and vent your anger on us - the same people that criticise your Government for their corruption and overt criminality.
YOU ARE THE BIGGEST IDIOT HERE.
Get angry at your Gov. and their supporters/enablers.
At the root of all this, You hate us highlighting these failures - you are EMBARRASSED by your Country !!!!
Oh, the SHAME!!!
LOL!!
JUSTICE FOR NISMAN!!!
Did YOU go on the march???
NO, - then you are part of the problem!!
imbecile

i think i already told you, but clearly your level of understanding is zero, nil, null, nothing.
nobody with a bit of a brain can agree with you, it doesn't matter if you are saying the same thing.
that is because your comments lack of content, contenido, argumento.
your knowledge about the issue is zero, nil, null, nothing.
you dont know who the fuck was nisman, who the fuck are stiuso, arroyo, yrimia, lagomarsino, berni, gils carbó, etc
you dont know what the fuck they did in the past 10 years or what the fuck they are doing now.
so, again, the problem is your ignorance.
you should stop embarrassing yourself and shut the fuck up.
and i am in punta del este right now, how could i go to the march, you retarded isleter?
eh?
Paula why don't you show us all on MP how your knowledge is so much more superior....why is that, because you are Argentine?

Feb 20th, 2015 - 04:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I told you, he couldn't be bothered.
Pablo supposedly lives right in BA, he has known for days about this march.
It was the biggest demonstration in ages, a chance to embarrass CFK, and take a moral stand.
Hundreds of thousands marched in BA, alone!!
How many people traveled to the city, just to March??
Thousands marched in other communities, too.
Did Pablo ?? No.
For all his blistering, the shame of it is that he is a lazy coward that talks big, nothing more.
We're laughing at you Paul - you have the government that YOU deserve anyway!!
Thanks Paulcedron.

I can hardly tell you apart, except Brassiero doesn't seem to suffer from Tourette's Syndrome.
